Very solid, Christ-focused church…read more If you are really interested in growing in your relationship with Christ, in learning more about God's love and how to how to serve Him and follow his commands as recorded in His Word, then this is the church for you. On the other hand, if you think you are basically a good person and are not interested really in making any changes to your life or growing in faith with other Christians, then you may be happier elsewhere. The website says 'No frills,' and they are not kidding. I love this church! My review was removed earlier for having insufficient info, so this is a concrete example of why I keep coming back: I have attended since 2018, and one of my favorite things about this church is how open the leadership is to questions. Even on very busy Sundays when I approach the pastor with odd questions such as 'what does Ephesians 3:13 mean by 'heart'?' he always makes time to discuss. Also a favorite: once every few months he encourages the congregation to submit questions about the Bible or how it relates to the culture, then he spends a week in research and addresses the questions in a sermon. It has been both helpful and edifying to be able to get a verse-by-verse perspective on tricky cultural issues, such as abortion and divorce. I think Pastor Roger is very bold to address these so openly, especially in California, but his responses tend to abound with contextually researched biblical evidence. Even if his response to a particular issue surprises me, I come away happier knowing a true biblical perspective and, being human, am glad for the impetus to 'excel still more!' In addition to having God-fearing leadership, I've found the congregants to be kind and sincere followers. I have made many friends here. They currently meet at 11am Sundays at 789 E Poplar in San Mateo. Parking is easy--it's the big lot across from Fiesta Gardens International School on Poplar.

This is a church I'd have once given a good review for its commitment to preaching from and expositing God's word - in fact, I thought I did so. I started attending as a new Christian about 7 years ago, becoming a member soon after. I left in April this year. Though the word may be preached, there are serious flaws a prospective congregant should know about. In my time there, the largest board of elders consisted of 2 men, including the pastor. This is admittedly a challenge for small churches, but sadly I saw how a prolonged period of too few elders can play out practically. In essence, there's a concentration of power and a lack of checks. Accountability of leadship is, to me, the most glaring concern. I'll leave it at that in an effort to caution prospective congregants but also not get my post deleted. The remaining church body is in my regular prayers, but it's no longer a church I can recommend.

The warmth they have (especially towards kids) is refreshing. That appears to be part of their DNA through generations (with many families having been there for decades). Also importantly is their commitment to teaching scripture in a way that all can understand and act upon. The pastor and elders have intelligence and care in their souls, and it comes through in all they say and do. They also regularly celebrate baptisms and communion. And even if you are not Christian or have a complicated relationship with religion, they will still happily welcome you! Finally, their commitment to the well being of communities both local and foreign is concrete and steady. Ministries include serving homeless, providing relief people in war-torn areas, supporting foreign missions - all in humble and glad service for the name of Christ. Having been through a wide variety of church experiences over the years (including many not so good experiences), Waypoint is truly an oasis. Truly thankful to God for them.

Everyone is singing, dancing, and the atmosphere is genuinely so good, I've never felt so comfortable to let loose and enjoy the presence of God - the leadership is not only super balanced, but so wise. The pastor and/or an elder will probably treat you to a breakfast or lunch and get to know you but talking to them feels amazing. No judgement, you can definitely see how they influence the church with their openness and wisdom. - KIDS MINISTRY! It's amazing for parents, there are SO MANY KIDS AT THIS CHURCH! Such a family oriented community here. - Everyone I have talked to so far and have become friends with really take Jesus serious. There isn't a lot of two-facedness if I can say that. As in, what you see is what you get. - Lifegroups are a must! You'll get super close with the church family, and have such a positive and supportive small group to dive into life with as well as how to apply the Bible to our lives.

I've always been a skeptical person, always looking for that reason (hypocrisy) to leave a place like this. But after ~4 years I've never found it here. I found the love of Jesus, the truth of His word, and a community that helps you walk in it through ALL the seasons of life. I'd say come as you are, (broken, lost, confused?.) & take a chance, because I'm so glad I did. It saved me and my family.

If at all "representing" itself as a church in the community. NOT a church. Actually very California perception as a church - Biblical standards no there there. Very active beautiful old church building - appearance beautiful old church on the corner. Gets 1 for inviting in community for all types of support groups. If you are a young Street activist embracing every cause to protest, you will really love it in this organization you will be welcomed and supported for your issues whatever they are not related to "America norms". If you are a real Christian looking for fellowship and spiritual, but conservative Biblical support with TRUE NORTH Biblical values this is NOT the church for you. Very progressive organization posturing as a "church" with vapid meaningless Sunday services runs hot and cold with the community. Served the homeless kitchen, then kicked them out for a few years then invited them back in and as of 2026 homeless kitchen is in the church facility M-.F 4:30 PM. The very sweet and beautiful school you see attached to the church is NOT a Christian school. It is a Muslim school most incredibly amazingly. YOU not a Muslim will NOT be invited into the school side of the building. This is quite an amazing conglomeration of religions to say the least. Really appreciate having the church in the community though - clean historic and decorative. That's the best can be said.

The ministerial staff and the members of the congregation aim to make everyone feel he or she is getting an extravagant welcome. "No matter where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here". The sermons by the senior minister, The Rev. Penny Nixon, are consistently thought-provoking, meaningful and very relevant. There is so much more I could say about the wonderfulness of CCSM. If you are searching for a progressive Christianity on San Mateo County's mid-peninsula I invite you to check out CCSM's website and/or attend a Sunday morning service (10:30 AM).
