The office is relaxing with calming videos running in the rooms. The appointments are easy to book, and the staff is friendly and professional. Two of my wisdom teeth came in right after I had my first child and were impacted. One was close to the nerve, so regular dentists did not want to touch it. Exactly one week ago, Dr. Calat numbed the area completely, and it took him about 5 min to pull out both teeth. He was quick, precise, and thorough. Before I knew it, he was cleaning the area and suturing the extraction sites. He did say that it didn't always happen so easily, and it could take up to 2 hours in some cases. I had some pain that went away with Motrin and Tylenol the first day. The second day, there was no pain, only low-grade fever 99.8F. I didn't need any painkillers. I ate soft and mashed food and followed the instruction from the after-care list. I took Motrin before sleep just in case but didn't need it. On the third day, I went out for lunch and had seafood risotto. Tomorrow is my 15th wedding anniversary, and we are going out for steak. Thank you, Dr. Calat. My wisdom teeth extraction turned out to be a much better experience than previously anticipated.

I have been scared of getting my 4 impacted wisdom…read moreteeth out for years, and I had visited two oral surgeons prior to him (one also very highly recommended in Manhattan), but I didn't feel comfortable with either of them doing the procedure. After seeing Dr. Tuchman, I felt a lot more comfortable with him and decided to have him do the procedure due to his very attentive bedside manner and expertise. The other oral surgeons told me that couldn't remove all of my wisdom teeth--one was very close to the nerve, and the other surgeons offered to cut the tooth in half. Dr. Tuchman took an additional x-ray and said he could remove the tooth without complications (the risk factor as low as 0.5%). He also explained that there were risks to cutting the tooth in half (i.e. infection, issues later in life), so he was confident he could remove all of the wisdom teeth. I am very happy that I chose him to do my wisdom tooth extraction! As a result, he removed all 4 of the teeth completely, and I was very surprised that I didn't have almost any pain afterwards and pretty minimal swelling. I did have to wait a little bit in the chair for him, but definitely worth the wait if you get to the appointment early because he takes time and a lot of care with his patients. If I would've known that I wouldn't have much pain at all, I would've gotten the procedure done earlier. He also deeply cares about his patients and gave me a call after the surgery to make sure I was doing ok and taking my medications. His secretary is also great and helped me reschedule my appointment a couple times after I needed things switched around. His office is great. If you're scared of getting your wisdom teeth removed, I would highly recommend Dr. Tuchman's office!

Avoid at all costs! You don't want to see someone who exhibits so many red flags in one person…read more TLDR: The Doctor got hostile and bitter after I decided not to make an appointment, and texted me messages after I'd blocked his office number. I called Dr. Ostro's office to ask about his experience diagnosing and treating Ernest Syndrome and to confirm his consultation fee, since I am paying out of pocket. A man answered the phone -- I initially assumed he was a staff member, but he later identified himself as Dr. Ostro. During the call, I had to spell the name of the condition twice(RED FLAG!). If I knew he was the doctor himself right then and there, I'd end the call, but I only realized it later. The "associate" started asking me questions about my symptoms shortly after, and he said that I could have Eagle Syndrome because Ernest and Eagle Syndromes are often used interchangeably(RED FLAG! - only someone who has never heard about Ernest S. and doesn't understand the difference between them would confuse the two). I told him that my ENT already saw my neck CT scan and ruled it out, and my TMJs are healthy according to my imaging and my orofacial doctor. I then asked him who he was, and he told me he's Dr. Ostro himself. I immediately became suspicious of this doctor. After all, if he was capable of treating Ernest Syndrome, he wouldn't need me to spell its name twice. I bet he was googling its name at the time. Anyway, I decided to test his knowledge and asked him how he'd diagnose it, giving him a last chance to prove himself. He told me that I'd need a panoramic and CT scans(another giant RED FLAG!). He started getting impatient and asked me when I'd like to see him. I said that I needed time to consider. He got aggressive, saying that I wasted his time by getting him to answer my questions for free (while I didn't even know who he was for most of the convo). His pathetic outburst got me very annoyed, and I told him that I would never make an appointment with someone who doesn't even know that you need a diagnostic injection to diagnose Ernest Syndrome. He got furious, repeating his previous accusation that I used him to get answers to my questions and told me to never call his number again. I didn't listen to his rant and hung up. Here is when things got both funny and creepy. He wrote me an angry message from his cell, lol, after being unable to call me from his office phone because of my blocking. I blocked his cell phone as well, and then he probably ran out of devices to text me from. Well, at least I got a laugh out of his childish attempts to have the last word. But many would find such unprofessional behavior very uncomfortable(some might consider this a red flag as well). I made an account here just to leave this review as a warning for those who might buy into his numerous positive reviews on Zocdoc.

UNPROFESSIONAL and CARELESS: Dr Ostro left two stitches in my month, I felt uncomfortable, went back to the office asking for a checkup, he claimed everything was fine and sent me home and saying it could be my illusion. After going back home still feeling uncomfortable, my friend helped, and pulled out the stitch using her hand. After that, I wrote review on zocdoc stating the situation, he never apologized but told me he was unhappy about the review. He asked me to remove the zocdoc review in exchange for $1000 discount, I refused and stand by every word I wrote. 2.ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY: never inform me they are out-of-network: I went there knowing he is in network with my dental plan, but he said my procedure would be medical not dental. Never disclosed he is out of network with my medical insurance. When I went over my plan: deductibles and copay with the office, they tricked me into believing they are in-network and asked me to pay in-network deductibles. 3.CRAZY BILLING: I went there for a simple mucocele removal, I pulled the average cost for the same procedure at zipcode 10019, the average cost is ~$300, highest is $950. Guess how much he asked? 3200!!!!! That's 10 TIMES HIGHER than average cost from BCBS cost estimator. Also I don't need a tooth xray, but he asked me to do one without even knowing what my problem is. And he billed 495 on tooth XRAY, which he should totally send the bill to my dental insurance since he is in network. 4.HIS LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED IN IL, he was involved in multiple malpractice law suits, checkout the news: chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2004-08-08-0408080349-story.html https://www.robertkreisman.com/medical-malpractice-lawyer/illinois-appellate-court-holds-expert-witness-meets-qualifications-bonner-v-ostro/

The oral surgeon in charge (*NOT Dr Kissel) was twice unsuccessful and the implant didn't take. Fortunately an acquaintance of my wife directed me to Dr Kissel with whom she'd had a stellar experience after a car crash demolished her teeth. Dr Kissel assured me he'd be able to repair the bone and install and implant. He then discerned the reason the previous grafts failed: the adjacent tooth was also infected and would have to be extracted. How this escaped the notice of the oral surgeon that preceded him simply boggles the imagination. I'll spare you the saga that unfolded over the next three years. Suffice it to say that Dr Kissel went to nothing short of heroic lengths to repair my teeth and the considerable scarring of my gums from the aforementioned previous surgeries. This should not be considered hyperbolic, either - at one point he met me in his office at the very height of the pandemic to treat an infection. He was in full hazmat gear and the office was unstaffed and officially closed, but he came in to the city from his home on short notice. Despite the inconvenience and anxiety that leaving home during the most worrying peak of pandemic lockdown engendered, Dr Kissel was caring, professional and cool. He put me at ease during what was a very stressful procedure.
