The materials they have displayed are few. Many of the items are from the later part of the time period that the schoolhouse served. The interpretive items are interesting but the materials associated with them are very short or non-existent. There didn't seem to be too many programs associated with the schoolhouse either. I had waited some time to be able to get into the venue because the hours are limited. I was rather disappointed by the offering and I will visit again in the future to see what has been added and changed. The area has a very rich historical perspective to draw from and I hope to see more that incorporated in the future.

It is small, so we expected to spend 15-20 minutes tops, but it was very interesting, we spent close to an hour there! The volunteer was very welcoming, explaining the history and exhibits to us, even letting my little ones ring the old school bell, which they really enjoyed. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The exhibits change every few months to my understanding, so we'll definitely be back!

Parking was within the parking and for the most part, parallel parking without marked lines. Finding the location is easy and the park is definitely marked on the road. The tea was lovely with various tea sandwiches that you would except to see at a fancy tea house. The real life Rosie's all came with at least 1 family member and were mixed in with the other guests. The tables were seat up in groupings of 4. The food was quite good. The history that was provided by the people who put on the Event provide interesting information about the local area. There was also a sing quartet who sang songs from the Era of the Rosie's. You also were free to see the rose bushes named for the Rosie's after the lunch and or tour the other buildings. The beautiful site has historical homes and structures that have been converted into exhibits. You can visit the Eloise Hospital exhibit, find your old Wayne / Westland yearbook, or explore the natural and cultural origins of Westland. The museum is open most Saturdays 1-4 (closed temporarily due to covid-19) and is ran by the Westland Historical Commission / Society. They give awesome tours of the park and are very knowledgeable about the city's history. The process…read moreand practice, however, in this case, have clearly fallen flat and it's possible that the building may follow suit. There is a huge sign outside the location naming the site - however, that's the only information on it. There is only an unremarkable street address fastened to the chain link fence (which I am reasonably sure is not historic) which surrounds the place. Parking is limited to two spaces. The windows are closed off with steel grates - and they don't look like the original inhabitant put them there, either. The steps and doors are in poor condition. The woodwork around the building is in a state of rot. It may be advanced but the thickly applied and questionably historically correct paint doesn't allow full examination. The building is filled with a collection of junk. The walls, ceilings and floors have obviously been reworked over the decades with the result that what is in there is a confused presentation. It looks more like a museum of do-it-yourself failures than a historical site. The storm cellar door is rotten. The windows are filthy. The yard is mowed but that is all. In the grass and yard there are several hidden items like stones, wood and metal that are a hazard to simply walking. There is no trail to the door. No supporting material. In any case - it's an eyesore and dangerous to approach.

Just so you know from door bell to entrance a good time and very welcoming. Deets....Room was large in size, well lit and with about six (6) tables in the Grand Parlor. Seats up to great elbow-room, persons to a table. EVEN an neighboring- annual Garden Show nearby. Looking for unique and living quarters - history find. An old friend of mine from high school volunteers here and invited me over in mid-November to see…read morethe museum since he was working that day. It was great to see a high school classmate I hadn't seen in 50 years and I really enjoyed the tour around the museum, which is actually an old farmhouse from the 1830's that has been converted to show the history of Garden City including many artifacts and photographs. If you enjoy history you would appreciate this place even if you aren't from the area. I know I enjoy visiting little museums in other towns that I am not from. Each town has its own interesting history. I'll see if I can find a link to the museum that describes it. There's also a gift shop with some fun things in it if you are looking for unique presents for anyone.

I went back today to work remotely, as I was already in the area for something else. The nostalgia! While things look updated and newer since my days, it still have pretty much the same layout as I remembered. It ended up being a really nice place to work remotely for the day. There's plenty of open seating with outlets. There are also a number of quiet individual booths (for phone calls/meetings) as well as group rooms. There's also a dedicated silent study room for extra quiet and focus. Vending machines with food and drink in the front, and of course, the library is adjacent to Heritage Park which is nice. Also, the children's section is large and adorable. The different sized doorways leading into it is exactly the same as when I was a kid decades ago :').
