Mom said that here highlights turned out better than they do at her usual place in Lincoln Park. I got loads of compliments about my hair during the rest of the trip. Plus Mexican prices what's not to love :) One suggestion for the management--please accept dollars not everybody has credit cards with no foreign transaction fees!

I made a 10 am appointment for a pedi and mani relajante, with gelish upgrade on my nails. At 10:10 am I was sitting outside waiting for them to open. I was a bit peeved they were late, but when they showed up moments later to open up, I immediately forgot my frustrations and knew I was in good hands. The space is small and tranquil with 4 or 5 pedi chairs. No music or anything, which I personally enjoyed because it was so quiet and calm. I picked out my Essie colors (good selection of both regular and gelish colors) and settled into a spa chair. One esthetician worked on my toes and one on my hands- love that because it is such an efficient use of time. They were both gentle but meticulous, and I left 80 minutes later completely blissed out with flawless nails. For 850 pesos, I was happy with both the experience and the results at almaviva. The staff was very welcoming and one person at least spoke some English. It's expensive though compared to my usual salon. It total to $620 which is equivalent to about $44 USD for gel manicure and regular spa pedicure. My, they definitely treat you well and focused on you with out rushing. My cuticles looked so nice and they time they spent on it shows they really cared. The woman doing my hand cut one of my fingers though why doing the cuticle. She didn't apologize but she was extra careful around the area. The woman doing my feet spent a while massaging and even scrubbed my feet a lot longer than what I expected. I don't have callous but it was nice to get a good scrub! Overall, the color came out great and the whole experience was relaxing for me. Which was very nice considering my whole day I was on my feet! 2 weeks later, my nails still look pretty decent.
