I visited for a workshop that included a talk on Tofani doors and then a making session to create our own mini doors out of a slab of clay. I grabbed a vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant before the class started. The baristas were friendly and filled my order quickly. The croissant was fresh and tasty, and the vanilla latte was delicious. The latte was on the sweeter side, which I like. There's a small seating area in the cafe at the front of the space, and the clay workshops are held in the area behind that. There's a restroom in the back for customers. The entire space is clean and bright, and it was comfortably warm on a freezing winter day. The clay workshop I attended was led by Hannah, who is a friendly, patient, and engaged teacher. She gave just the right amount of guidance to encourage us and keep us on track. I can't wait to pick up my finished project in a few weeks once it's been glazed and fired. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their calendar for future classes.

Usually we have snacks along with our whiskey expressions. it's very nice to sit across from one another at the long, tables with soft tablecloths in this warm and comfortable interior. Adding to Alchemist's Society's building charm, is occasionally hearing the gentle, muffled roll of the EL overhead. Muffled because The building is as solid as a brick $&@?house. I took two courses at PFW and they were well worth it. I didn't know anything about woodworking…read moreexcept for what I learned in shop class in 7th grade, basic stuff. Here, they show you how to use each tool, with safety in mind. You are explained the details about wood grain and how it warps, and you get thorough answers to questions you may have. If you are a woman considering taking a course here, you will not get that 'I don't belong here' feeling, you know what I'm talking about ladies. The two instructors are pleasant and professional. The only thing I felt a little iffy about was walking to my car in that neighborhood after class, because you have to park in the street or take public transit, I'm not familiar with the area and it seems a little shady at first glance. I'm from a different ghetto, maybe if I knew this neighborhood better it wouldn't be so bad. Look it up on street view, it's in a residential area, no restaurants in short walking distance to get lunch so bring your own, but the instructors usually have lunch for the students. Unless you're vegetarian, definitely bring your own or you'll be taking a chance. They also have a pot of coffee and a snack to munch on at breakfast.

After a series of evening courses, I'm now much more confident in using tools, thinking about setting up a small home woodshop, and I have a new, beautiful bookcase in my house. The class had a mix of younger and older people, men and women, folks with all sorts of backgrounds, income levels, city v. suburbs. The instructors, Mario and Alan, give a good balance between keeping the class going overall and individual attention while working on each phase of the project. I can attest that they are both very patient and personable. Both Alan and Mario love woodworking and you learn as much from talking through tools or a particular project you might be thinking about for your house as you do from the more formal elements of the course. If you're thinking about woodworking as a hobby or want to see how furniture really comes together, I highly recommend this course.

The overall purpose of the market is to feel full, and to feel like one of hundreds of people. And there are so many visitors around lunchtime and later. The walkways between the various cafes, bakeries, and food spots wer streams and rivers of hungry people. So many options of local Pennsylvanian delicacies were available, and seating was plentiful. There was a main seating area in the middle of the market, where you could see classes of high school students being lectured by teachers, workers on their lunch hour nibbling on a snack, and tourists and visitors frantically looking at all the visual splendor and fragrant cookery. Each individual business in the market has something to contribute to the overall experience. If you are close to the market, I recommend going during breakfast, lunch, and dinner to see the difference in food options. I also recommend going before lunch because it is usually a little less packed. Parking is going to be a hassle, so find parking where you can, and try to walk there!

The fish suggested by the server had a waterlogged taste. The seasonings could not penetrate the layers to adhere and produce flavor. In short it was tasteless! Maybe some lemon, there was none to be found. The decor is heavy, dated and unappealing. Our server was pleasant but appears uninspired by the day or the work. My review is based on the restaurant side and not the school itself. The interior of the restaurant was old and needed a pick me up. It was however clean which is a good thing. We were seated at our table and the students waited on us and were also the ones that cooked the meal. I think it's pretty cool how they are learning to become chefs and have a chance to cook and do what is needed to be done by working in a mock restaurant. The students who were serving the meal and cleaning up all did a really nice job and we're professional and courteous. The restaurant was BYOB which was cool so we had some beers and wine with our meal. The food overall was pretty tasty and the dessert was great as well. I would come back and have another meal another time.
