One of Philly's many hidden gems!…read more After googling events happening this weekend I saw an exhibit for Rashaad Newsome - "To Be Real" was on display at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center... I'm always looking for something new, interesting and mentally stimulating so decided to check it out and was impressed. Let me start by saying this space is beautiful! My niece and I were greeted upon entering and were given a brief overview of the exhibit. The exhibit itself was rich in color and concept and very unique. There was no admission to see the exhibit but donations are welcome (tip: DONATE!) - donation is not mandatory but I'm a firm believer that arts and culture help expand and enrich our experiences and are also great for conversation. In addition to seeing the feature exhibit, there was a hallway with more art, which lead to another space with another exhibit "Fluid Women" (I think) was the name; this exhibit was captivating also. I had a wonderful experience visiting PPAC and will definitely return! I also recommend if you have an interest in visual arts and are looking for something unique. The space was quiet and it is not large but has a lot to offer.

In terms of those workshops you can find them for about $30 on Groupon or LivingSocial and the classes are intimate enough with about seven people or less that you really can get the individual attention that really makes for an excellent experience. In fact you will get that personal attention because the teacher incorporates each student and politely requests that they offer their work for light critique. There are opportunities in every class for you to go outside and practice what you just learned by shooting on the surrounding streets. My only criticism regarding the workshops is that they are not as frequent as I would like as my weekend work schedule conflicts often times with their classes. This next section is about the print center and I've had nothing but a phenomenal experience there. I was completely new to Printing and Keith the master printer who runs the lab made an appointment and sat with me for about an hour to basically guide me through the entire process, give his suggestions, and work Photoshop to get the photos exactly as I want them. He has a profound amount of experience that he draws from and is completely understanding that I am a brand new printer. He even gave me recommendations for where to get my photos framed and was just a brilliant lead in the entire process of printing my photographs. I'll definitely come back and I will recommend it to you because they do have excellent facilities, friendly workers, and a wealth of experience. The actual building itself is quite large and I believe it's shared with some other organizations. Philadelphia photo Arts Center does have a classroom or two and a nice gallery to present whatever work they choose. Getting here is very convenient as I take the subway from Center City and walk about 10 minutes. If you were to drive there's plenty of parking and it does not seem packed the numerous times I've been there.

She took the time and asked me about my problem areas, pressure sensitivity, offered extra blankets, and choice of lotion/oil. The process well explained before she started. Throughout the session she checked on the pressure, temperature of the room, and how I'm feeling. If you have any particular area of concern they will use deep tissue techniques in that area while providing Swedish massage. After the massage homecare instructions were given. I had shoulder/back pain (from strained muscle) and after a few days the pains almost gone. Before you leave, they give a feedback form to rate the experience and the masseuse/masseur. This helps the students learn and improve. Definitely a great place to get massages and help out the students at the same.

My massage itself was great. Professional and well executed. The entire time I was getting my massage, all I could think about was if I had called the wrong place to say I was running late. When I went back to the lobby to pay, I was told that someone else had indeed answered the phone and hadn't relayed the message until I was already getting my massage. So disappointing. Now I was told that if I do not attend the class i will be charged $595 for the class. As the rep over talked me and was basically like (your word over ours) I still have no documentation of this. Also she does not know when the manager will come in today. I have never heard about being charged and furthermore I never received any information upon keeping my account info on file to later charge(without documentation of receiving so) This is not professional and how a business should be ran. I took a bartending class and have never experienced something like this. Do not go any further with this company. Bad business. I will wait until they take the 595 out of my account and handle everything the proper way.

(I mean you're special and all, but in that everyone's special therefore no one is kinda way....sorry, hate to pop anyone's daily affirmation bubble) They will take the $13 you steal from your little sister's tooth fairy money if it means you enroll, because then they know they'll milk you for the rest (it's about $500) You might make about 25% of the drinks you learn. However the ONE SINGLE DAY they dedicate to learning about wine & beer afterwards you'll realize you know pretty much the same as anyone who's ever had a B.A.C. The instructors WILL make crude dirty jokes, often in the form of fratboy-type acronyms/ mnemonic devices for drinks you'll never make. You might leave class everyday stinking of the weird colored water in bottles that they use (and use and reuse and rereuse) as alcohol substitutes. And when it's all said and done if you get a job, you still might end up just working at some dive in Kensington. BUT You will get behind a bar. If you go to the Copa Cabana bar trainer night. And realize you can't keep your own tips. Ouch! If you've never ever made a drink you will learn how to make a few, and how to make-up a few more. If you pursue it you'll get free TIPS certification, which some bars actually give a flying rats...about. You'll at least think you know what you're doing if you do land a job. But as in most new professions if you think you know what you're doing, most people won't realize you're learning on the fly. BUT ONLY IF You realize you're going to have to find your own damn job. The job placement is a bit of a help (I'd rate it 1.5 stars), they send you emails every so often and there's a database (however most of these postings can be found on your own through Craigslist). You hound, harass and haggle them about the TIPS class. It's already paid for and you're not coming up offa any more dough so they're not inclined to help you out much. You lie on your resume. Hey, it is what it is. No restaurant, no matter what they say, wants a bartender who's never bartended, and one fresh out of school to them holds about as much promise as Michael Jordan's baseball career. You've got $500 to spare. This for me is the biggest flaw in this operation. This course is really worth about $150-$200, tops. Did you read what I said about there not being real liquor in the bottles? Shoot, anyone who can stick it out without biting sarcasm deserves a drink, on ABS. FINALLY It's overpriced, and a lot harder to get a job then you'll think, and it stinks, yeah, literally, that colored practice water is FOUL. But if you've got no other way to become a bartender than it's not a total loss. What it did give me was some confidence to walk into a bar and feel like I could make drinks. And that's what I did. I made not terrible money (not including my stint at the dive in Kenzo), but I DID have to work long hours, my feet hurt and drunk people are annoying, however I bartended, and that was the goal. So in THAT ABS did fufill their purpose.

I barely have any lashes so getting these extensions have been such a game changer. I get so many compliments and my daily routine is now 5 mins or less which is amazing for my hectic life. The prices are competitive but I am a true believer of you get what you pay for. My extensions will last me 3-4 weeks. I work with Aimiee and Kelly, both who are great at their craft and truly take the time to listen to what you want. Not only are they concern with how glam your lashes are, they take particular care to the health of your lashes.
