I got a tattoo from here last week and could not be more pleased with the results and entire process! The tattoo artist, Carissa, is so incredibly talented and made my tattoo come to life! I got flowers on the back of my arm and the line work, shading, and colors are so realistic and masterfully done. Carissa was professional, thoughtful, down to earth, and a good listener. I truly felt like I was catching up with an old friend! This wasn't my first tattoo but I still appreciated receiving a small handout on tattoo after-care and Carissa made sure to go over this with me. In addition, Ellen was so helpful and kind throughout the scheduling process. After they saw my review on Yelp they emailed me back stating that my email got lost as they are "juggling 100s of people at a time" and are only a small shop and "not a large corporation like Walmart or Burger King". It all started off about a year ago. After looking around for nearly two years for a good tattoo shop, a friend recommended Wave N Pave. I contacted Carissa and was amazed ho0w quickly she got back to me. Helping me out with coming up with a design that was far beyond what I expected and helping me set up an appointment in no time. She paid great attention to what I wanted to get and helped out greatly with fulfilling my tattoo wish. Her work is just amazing. In fact I got a second tattoo the same day. I first learned of Wave n Pave Tattoo while I was traveling internationally working Tattoo Conventions. A couple of my friends that are really well respected tattooers had done guest spots at the studio. I began to follow them on Instagram and Facebook. I was impressed by the high caliber of tattooing that was coming out of the shop and also the fun family environment that is apparent even through the businesses social media. When I finally got to visit the shop and meet the everyone it exceeded all expectations. The business is on the second floor and doubles as a surf and skate shop. You are welcomed with a cozy lobby that has all of the skate decks, surfboards, and supplies. Tattoo consultations are done here while the actual tattoo process happens in one of three private rooms beyond the lobby. This gives the shop a very unique speakeasy feel to it. Terrific family owned tattoo parlor and surf/skate shop. I've had a tattoo done by Carissa and was/am fully satisfied with her work. It was almost painless, her and her husband Mark give out a really fun and relaxed vibe. The majority of Carissa's personal artwork is exactly my style, one of the reasons why I commited to get a tattoo here. The whole shop is really clean, everyone's very accommodating as well. The prices, to me, are what I expected in Boston, not too steep not too cheap. Just right. Once this new tattoo heals in a month or two ill be back to this shop again and bringing some more future customers with me. If a shop treats me right I spread the word and treat them right. We scheduled a consultation. She listened to my idea, looked at some pix I brought in. I was jogging down the beach in Winthrop when I first moved in, and saw a surfer. I couldn't believe that there was actually surf here! The next day I went looking for a board and found the Wave N Pave! This place rocks. They gave me a sweet deal on an awesome longboard and wetsuit, I went surfing in town the same day I got all my gear. Surfing in New England?! What?! Found lots of good waves in town and through new hampshire, really opened my eyes up to locations and possibilities of surfing anywhere. I love this shop! They're often hosting fun events, art shows, skate contests. This shop really supports the community and brings a lot of life into this town. read more

Wave and pave used to be in Winthrop but they recently moved to a new location near 1A in east boston and opened a tatoo parlor inside the surf shop. The owners are very nice and helpful. The shop has the atmosphere of a very laid back store; it's got a new england version of the aloha spirit. As of this writing they have a small but good selection of longboards and fun boards. They may have short boards too; i just wasn't looking for a board so I didn't notice. I came there to buy gloves for surfing. They have very reasonable prices. It is so great to have a good surf shop in the Boston area. I used to have to drive two hours round trip to buy surf equiptment and now we have wave and pave in our back yard. It only takes about fifteen minutes to get there from downtown boston without traffic. Call them first ot make sure they have what you are looking for. read more

I loved this place! Went there because I had won a gift certificate at a concert, but I will definitely go back. The place was really nice, had a clean, home-y feel to it and very private. Lots of cool clothes and things to browse while I waited, as well as some really cool people to talk to. I came in with a fairly specific idea for the tattoo I wanted, but still had a few things I wanted some feedback on. Carissa was extremely patient with me offering feedback but not pushing me to get anything more than I wanted or to spend any more money than was necessary. She didn't seem the least bit rushed or concerned with anything other than getting the tattoo exactly the way I wanted it before getting it done. As far as the tattoo itself I can not stress enough how happy I am with how it came out! Being a very recognizable symbol I was getting I was a bit nervous, but as soon as she had sketched out the tattoo I felt fine, it was perfect. Carissa is a great artist, and the amount of pride she takes in her work is obvious! She went above and beyond to make sure that I was getting exactly the tattoo I wanted, exactly where and how I wanted it. It came out looking even better than I had hoped. Went to jen beirola for a tattoo... by no means painless but the 2 plus hours was! Had a super meaningful Colombian piece of art done on the back of my arm and it came out better than expected! I emailed her the image ahead of time and it was clear she put a great deal of time into giving me the best tattoo that my mom will not disown me over!! I had wanted to get it in a different spot on my arm but she definitely had thoughtful consideration over the placement and exact image that worked best on my body! Incredibly happy about it! I called and booked an appointment for my mother and we were both very impressed with the shop and friendly and amazing customer service we received. I felt like I was at my family's house talking to my family. Carissa tattoo'd both my mother and I, I wanted birds on my shoulder and my mother had no idea what she wanted.
