The pool! Was somebody murdered?

The first room I got had a terrible gas smell, as in petrol. They moved me to room next door. This room had water dripping from the ceiling. Third room had no working AC. Finally seemed okay on the 4th room, until I used the shower and spotted black mold on the ceiling. Pool was surrounded by caution tape and unavailable.

The rooms are colorful and vibrant. Front desk is pleasant and amicable! Convenient location next to Starbucks and Target store! Amenities here include cash ATM, Tourist booklets, complimentary WiFi, complimentary breakfast, laundry room, swimming pool, sun deck, shared microwave, ice and vending! Inside the rooms you get smart TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, full length mirror, ironing amenities, luggage rack, study desk and chair! Only downsides here are: they charge $100 deposit at check in! The smart TV has an automated voice that announces every time you change channels or adjust the volume. Also the bed is made of metal frame which makes reverberating noise every time you accidentally hit it

This is the queen size need that was in the room .. when we booked a king size bed

ZERO STARS -- DO NOT STAY HERE (If zero stars were possible, that's what this hotel deserves.) My husband and I booked the Wave Hotel while traveling from Las Vegas to California for my godmother's funeral. This was already an emotional and difficult time, and unfortunately, our experience at this hotel added unnecessary stress. We paid for and confirmed a KING-size bed, which was important since both of us are over six feet tall. Upon entering the room, it was immediately obvious the bed was not a king--more like a full or queen. On top of that, the mattress was so hard it was like sleeping on the ground making it extremely uncomfortable. I took photos and went straight to the front desk. The front desk staff stated they were unaware of the issue and said they needed to speak with the owner (her father). When he arrived, he never spoke to us directly. The next day, we left early for the funeral. When we returned later, another employee claimed they had attempted to move us to another room while we were gone, which was not true. We were then told there were no other rooms available because the hotel was fully booked--so again, no resolution was offered. Additional issues: Dirty towels Uncomfortable, damaged mattress We did not use the hotel's towels or pillows because we always bring our own towels and pillowcases At checkout, we raised our concerns again. Management offered only $20 back for parking, and told us that if we wanted to dispute anything further, we would need to contact Expedia. Also we checked out at super early (6am) due to the uncomfortable 2 day stay About a week later, we discovered an unauthorized charge on our card. The hotel claimed we damaged their towels, which is completely false. We never used them and there were no washcloths in the room at all. We had to dispute the charge with our bank, and we are currently waiting for the refund. This hotel is poorly managed, unprofessional, and dishonest. Being treated this way while in town for a funeral was incredibly disappointing. Do yourself a favor spend the extra 40$ and stay elsewhere.

2 out of 5 stars - 1 for being close to the beach and 1 for a seamless checkin. The room was tidy as expected and the front desk agent was very kind and helpful. The biggest problem I had was that the mattress was awful. It's hard as a rock. Honestly it felt like there were just sheets placed on top of the springs, and as someone who enjoys a soft memory-foam mattress - this immediately made me feel like I overpaid for the room. Luckily I was only staying here for a night but if I can suggest something for the manager - please get new mattresses. Or the very least some soft mattress toppers. Because the current ones are a joke. Also - their TVs only have basic cable. Streaming, casting, and mirroring are not available.

Woke up at 6 am to our whole room flooded with toilet water and a nasty sewer smell went to complain to the front desk and they refused to give me a refund instead told hotels.com that I was just a splash of water so me and my girlfriend had to get ready for our day in the parking lot across the street 0/10 wouldn't no recommend!

Dangerous, absolutely avoid coming to this hotel, these are sick people with many people who go to create problems, I paid $110 dollars for a room, he gave me the room but when I Opened the door was dirty from the previous customer.

Nice spacious room

With that being said it is an absolutely beautiful hotel, for certain people with certain tastes and styles, honestly it wasn't for me. First off, they offered a welcome margarita, which is a nice gesture and takes away the blow of the bill I guess, if you drink alcohol, which I don't. I would have gone for a snack but they didn't offer. They told me that the resort fee allows you a few special things: one was to get a discount for Equinox while you're in town. I laughed when they told me that because I'm on vacation and while I'm all about fitness, I'm not about to go to Equinox and workout, plus I was only here one night passing by. They also said to go to one of their restaurants in town and tell them that you are staying at the Shade Hotel and they will take care of me. I thought that was really nice. The third perk to this resort fee was that you got a credit at the bar it was $20 towards food or drink. I was told that if I don't use the credit at the restaurant or bar that they will put that money towards my bill and credit me at the end. I'll touch on that later. I walk into my room and I thought I was going to have a seizure or that a migraine would come on soon because they had these hideous neon blue lights bordering the bar in the room and the bed. I thought it was so tacky and awful like I was in Vegas or even better Atlantic City. The room was absolutely enormous and I had a balcony but these lights were so bright and blinding I knew there was no way this was going to fly for the night. I went downstairs and the guy explained to me how I could dim them. Baby, I don't want dim I want off. Luckily when I got back up to the room I was able to dial them completely off. The room got much better at this point except for the jacuzzi tub smack dab in the middle of the room, next to my bed, literally. It was so odd. SO odd. The bathroom vanity was open concept, jacuzzi tub then my bed. It was not for me. They had these door things you could use to close the area off, but I just have one question, why? Why was this an idea that came to fruition? The toilet had a separate area with a door. I don't know, it was weird to me. Also, alcohol everywhere in the room, bottles upon bottles. Snacks for purchase, drinks in the fridge for purchase, the usual. The amount of alcohol was shocking to me though. The TV was pretty small and awkwardly positioned a bit from the bed, the bed was comfy enough, had a good night sleep. Woke up the next morning and upon check out just double checked to make sure that the $20 would be credited to my room if I didn't use it at the bar and they said that's not a thing and they don't do that. So I'm not sure what the guy was talking about the night before. Anyways, I didn't want anything to drink so I grabbed two orders of fruit to go. This fruit, lol. It was wildly expensive for what I got I'll leave it at that. Some melon, berries, it was disappointing. Very loud at night I will say that they had the music going late, which I'm not ever going to complain about in the moment but I'm just mentioning it. What else what else. Perfect location, walking distance to everything, extremely convenient. Try it you may love it! Still think it deserves a good review because it was very clean, that's number one priority in a hotel for me.

Belamar review…read more Overall a great hotel and , if I can secure a similar great price, I and my family will happily stay again! The highlights: - the staff were wonderful (all around). The front desk staff were courteous at every step in the process (check in, questions throughout stay, following up on a few small issues that occurred) and at checkout. The valet staff were wonderful. They worked REALLY hard to ensure cars were ready in five minutes (often less than that) from when you requested it (via text) and the restaurant staff was very courtesy and the food was good - Valet was quick (I can't emphasize this enough). I was slightly annoyed that it was valet only (with a rental car I get a wary of others driving) however they were fast, courteous, and kept the car cool for me. Also, I recommend paying for valet when you book as I had the option to buy $25/night parking instead of $45/night parking where booking on the Hilton app. - Use of the hotels bicycles was a major highlight. I rented bikes twice. At the time of my stay (May 2026) there were only four bikes. They are first come first serve so I recommend renting in the morning. They had baskets and came with locks and helmets for a very affordable price. The staff (especially Ozzie) was great at getting them quickly rented out to us and showing us the features (they are one speed bikes so they are basic but perfect for cruising along the beach). - The room was spacious, clean, and had a mini bar fridge in it (with the option for a full fridge and access to a microwave near the business center). I appreciated the ability to tip the staff virtually with credit card in case you don't have cash. - The restaurant was convenient, service was good, and the food was good - Noise level wasn't bad, I had a room facing the main road and wished I would have booked a courtyard room, however the noise was barely noticeable and never a disruption (I come from a city where I am use to ambient noise) The not so great things - For late night gym goers, the gym is limited to 6am-10pm (probably because the gym is beside several guest rooms and they want to be courteous to those rooms). However the gym is well stocked small gym (three treadmills, a peloton, and several different racks of weights and areas for stretching) - The hallways smelt a bit dank when I first arrived (although the rooms themselves smelt very fresh) and I noticed several automated deodorizers in the hallways (likely to help with this) and staff were doing a comprehensive carpet cleaning when I checked out so I would expect this not to be the case in the future. - The indoor/outdoor pool was a bit dated and didn't leave much to be desired, but it's an option.. for those who don't prefer the beach and there were towels available.

Smells terrible everything is old , rusty in the bathroom, very expensive for what they offer,…read moretheir "closet " is just some hangers in the room, after u flush the toilet it takes about 10 min until stops, and also in the bathroom they glue a piece of hose on floor so the water doesn't come down in the room! As a Gold Elite Bonvoy member, I really appreciated being able to check in early with no hassle--they accommodated it right away. The airport shuttle was seamless and showed up right on schedule (runs every 30 minutes), which made arrival super easy. Check-in was smooth and welcoming, and the whole place has that modern, upbeat Aloft vibe with a definite Cali twist. It was a little chilly during my stay, so I didn't get to enjoy the pool as much as I wanted, but the fire pit and lounge areas were awesome. My room was clean, comfortable, and the bed was amazing--slept better than I have in a while. What really made this stay stand out was the staff. Every interaction--from the first phone call to final checkout with Brenda--was warm, genuine, and made me feel like family. Huge shoutout to the whole team for making the experience memorable. The location is also a major plus. Tons of food options are within walking distance, and we were able to stroll over to Ralph's for snacks and groceries. My personal favorites: Starbucks right across the street and In-N-Out nearby. We Ubered to most places during our visit, and the location definitely helped keep costs down. It was also super easy for drivers to pick us up and drop us off in front of the hotel, which made getting around even smoother. Only minor concern: the gym had a bit of an odor that kept me from working out, but we got plenty of steps in during the trip, so no big deal. Overall, a pleasant stay and definitely a spot I'll plan to come back to!

The front desk staff was extremely friendly and professional, and the lobby looked recently updated, which I appreciated. The gym, pool, and outdoor eating areas were a vibe, and the grounds were beautiful and very family-friendly. Parking was plentiful, and the property felt safe, quiet, and somewhat tucked away. The food service staff stood out as well--very personable and well-organized. One team member even walked around to tables checking in with guests, which was a nice touch. The beach is about a 27-minute walk each way. I walked there and back and didn't find it bad at all. Checkout was easy, my late checkout request was honored, and the staff went out of their way to give me a list of tourist attractions in San Diego since I was heading there after checkout. Accessibility & Cons: The parking spaces were tight, especially near Building #3. The pathway between the parking lot and the sidewalk was uneven and steep, which isn't ideal for guests with mobility challenges. We booked a one-bedroom loft, and while the room itself was really nice and unique, all of the lofts are on the second floor and there are no elevators. Traveling with my mom, who has mobility limitations, made this a challenge. Also, the room had a noticeable odor--hard to describe, but similar to a basement smell--which I wasn't a fan of. Overall, this was a great stay and I would definitely recommend it and stay here again. I'd also recommend checking out the loft rooms--they're very cool--just be mindful of the accessibility limitations.

Shuttle runs 24 hours and is frequent look for Loft & Fairfield Inn denoted shuttles, and call the hotel so they know you will be waiting, should see a shuttle within 30 minutes. My room was in the Tower several stories up, this required a short walk to an elevator that was not initially easily found, and I'd suggest more intuitive signage, but it was found, and the tower design minimizes hall traffic outside of rooms. I was solo, and had no issue with the small bathroom counter, but I was also prepared for a cruise ship so I had a hanging shaving Kit so counter space needs were minimized. The room was standard, but I also packed a white noise generator so external noise would not be an issue. Bedding was sufficient, but I'd request on checkin for an additional blanket for both warmth and weight. The breakfast dinning room was large, and the morning offerings included Yogurts, Breads with a Toaster, Cereals and Milk, Coffee and Dispenser Juices, Cooked Liquid Eggs, and Breakfast Meats. The buffet was well maintained by staff, and though crowded as it opened, was less packed as the service progressed. There is also a microwave in this space. Stayed here for two weeks for business, so I got a pretty good feel for the hotel…read more Let's start with the good: Luis, David, and the breakfast crew were great. The front desk and breakfast area have had a nice remodel, and there's a nice courtyard with outdoor seating and a "heated" pool. The pool was still pretty cold, but I guess it was warmer than the regular temperature. Breakfast was also a nice touch. It was great not having to find somewhere to eat every morning. You could simply walk downstairs and have plenty of options to choose from. Definitely a convenient perk. Now, let's get into the thick of things. The hotel looks nice when you first walk in, but the rest of the property definitely needs a remodel. Room #1: The AC was leaking, leaving a wet spot on the floor when we walked in. During a California heatwave, the AC wasn't working. We also found hair in the bathtub and around the bathroom. We had placed the "Privacy Please" sign on the door, so housekeeping didn't clean the room, which is completely understandable. However, I called the front desk to request fresh towels, and they contacted housekeeping to send some up. When the housekeeper arrived, the woman with short gray hair seemed extremely annoyed, as if we were bothering her by asking for fresh towels while she was at work. Not exactly the welcoming attitude you want from housekeeping. Room #2: The safety door latch was nonexistent, the bathtub was clogged, and there were dust bunnies everywhere. Maintenance did a good job fixing the issues, so thank you to them. Unfortunately, the next day, after coming back from a long day of work, we found bugs on the bed and on the floor around the bed. I was horrified. So, we had to move... again. Ugh! The elevator can be tricky. Between room #2 and room#3 the elevator near our room wasn't working for a couple of days, so we had to use the other elevator, which had a few steps we had to navigate with our luggage. Super annoying. Room #3: We were moved to a room facing the pool, which I guess was supposed to be an "upgrade." It was definitely loud when the pool was being used, but I didn't mind too much since I specifically picked this hotel because it had a pool. The room itself was okay. However, this AC was leaking too. By this point, our stay was almost over, and I really didn't want to switch rooms again. They do have a bar, but the hours seemed random. Every time I needed a cocktail after all the room moving chaos, the bar was closed. It No big deal I just ordered something through food delivery. Overall, the location was good, and there are definitely some positives, especially the staff. But the hotel itself needs quite a bit of work and updating. Would I stay here again? Probably not. I'll spend a few extra dollars and stay somewhere else next time.
