Called ahead to confirm location, hours, and factory store or to purchase from a local vendor; I was told to come on down to the factory store on the main drag of Perryton, TX. This is a new looking little shop (location) that fronts the Cheddar Cheese making production facility. Note -- they make the cheddar and bring in from as local as possible all other products (jellies and jams, seasoning mixes, caps/tshirts and other paraphernalia and accessories. So many cheese choices as well as all the the other good stuff; we left with several blocks of flavored cheese (including white cheddar -- the kind that didn't get a dose of colorant), cheese curds, jam mix (rhubarb+strawberry+a couple other berries), a cap for my son-in-law, and Wagyu beef jerky. Good products, friendly and helpful staff, clean and orderly which is always a winner for ... all of us. They have shipping in the non summer months -- which would be great gift packages for anniversaries, holidays, and other special occasions. Stop here on a trip out to the long weekend or vacation -- get your snacks. read more

If you live in Perryton or are just passing thru then this is your go to place for cheese. I can never pass thru here without stocking up on premium cheese. This is not velveeta brother. Watonga is a 1st class premium cheese store. Aged sharp cheese up to 12 years old. They also have additional flavors, pickles, hot sauce, beef jerky etc. But their 12 year aged sharp cheddar cheese is to die for. This is melt in your mouth extreme goodness. They are nice people, extremely helpful and very competitive on their prices. I even found me a local to purchase cheese for me and mail it on over. On a scale 1 to 10, they're a 20. I highly recommend them. read more

Watonga Cheese Factory prides itself in its 80-year tradition to produce rich, handmade cheddar cheese full of flavor and over 60 quality items to choose from. Our mild cheddar, longhorn cheddar, and flavor varieties of cheese curds are favorites among our long-time fans. We also provide tours through our cheese factory so that folks can learn about how cheese is made. In addition to our cheese products, our retail store also carries a variety of products such as homemade canned pickles, local honey, barbecue sauce, t-shirts and caps.

History

Established in 1940.

Watonga Cheese Factory was founded in 1940 in Watonga, Oklahoma. It was purchased in 2002 by Casey and Brandi Cowan. Then in 2007 tragedy struck when a tropical storm brought 80-mile-an-hour winds and 9 to 11 inches of rain and the factory was destroyed. The City of Perryton, Texas offered incentives to the Cowans to rebuild there and the factory was re-opened in 2010.

Meet the Business Owner: Casey and Brandi C.

Casey is the youngest of six children and grew up in Balko, OK. Brandi is the oldest of three children and grew up in Follett, TX. We met in 2000 and married in 2002. We have two boys; one who attends school in Balko, OK and another who attends college at OSU. We love watching them play sports. Casey became interested in making cheese in 2003 and we bought the cheese factory in Watonga, OK shortly after that. After it was destroyed, we reopened again here in Perryton. We love our little cheese factory. We love producing an all-natural quality product with so much history behind it and we love all the folks we meet along the way who love what we produce.

My mom grew up eating this cheddar cheese as did I and my kids when the factory was in Watonga, Oklahoma. But then Hurricane Erin created high winds in Oklahoma that destroyed the factory in 2007. The factory was rebuilt in Perryton, TX. They will ship the cheese right to my front door and it usually arrives the next day. In my opinion, the cheese tastes better now then I remember it tasting when I was a kid. I especially love the Cheddar Cheese Curds. They are so fresh they squeak when I bite into them. My family loves it when I send them the cheese gift sets during the holidays. These folks are very friendly on the phone when you call them and they provide excellent customer service. If anyone is looking for the best cheese you can get your hands on all you have to do is get in touch with Watonga Cheese at Perryton, Texas. We have been a customer since before they moved to Perryton. When we lived in Oklahoma we would drive from Cheyenne to Watonga just to get their cheese curds. Now we can get their products from Edes Meats in Amarillo and we are so happy. We love the Cheese Curds and the Cheese Sausage. We give them to our friends at Christmas and the first thing we hear is "where can we get this". Good products and good people to deal with. read more

The owners become family!! They are amazing. The cheese is always so fresh never had an issue . Brandi is amazing and her co workers make amazing baskets etc for any holiday u may need. Anyone loves cheese ,sausage, or whatever it may be for any holiday or special occasion. Brandi is so sweet . Try everything because you will be hooked!!!! I've never had anything I don't like !!! Watonga Cheese is a personal favorite. I have been enjoying their cheesy goodness for decades. Their mild cheddar has a buttery flavor and melts to perfection. So glad to have a cheese factory in my city. I am a cheese-a-holic for sure. If you haven't had cheese curds you are missing out. I put this and their longhorn cheddar into my venison summer sausage.
