I stopped by the Raymond Library in East Hartford, since I was in the area. I wanted to pick up…read moresome new reading material for my self. This building is impressive, it looks like it might have been a museum in its old life. I walked inside, and this is where they have their new arrivals, as well as periodicals and newspapers. There are two comfy chairs in this area. There was a "respectful flag disposal" here. It's a nicer looking cardboard box, with a print of the American flag on it. This is the first time I've noticed this. I'm not sure if all libraries have them, but it makes sense. It's good to make others aware of proper ways to dispose of a flag. The computer area was pretty full of users. I couldn't find a place to sit, that's not by the computers. There was some beautiful artwork displayed, that was done by high school seniors. The books were spread out across two floors. The children's area had some clay work from elementary school on display as well as some other artwork. There were puzzles, games and a ton of books for the youngest readers. They even had some guide books for parents dealing with various difficulties in parenthood. Overall, this is a nice library with plenty to offer anyone in the community.

The Faxon Branch Library, is part of the West Hartford Libraries, it is the smallest of the three…read morelibraries. The entire library is in one room, on one floor. Despite how small it is, it still has all of the resources one would find in a typical library, including the very friendly librarians. My class is currently learning about animals. I thought Free Willy would be a great movie to play them as a reward for their hard work. I popped by the Faxon Branch Library to see if said movie on DVD was in stock. And it was! I also picked up a few books about bears who hibernate. The library is very organized and clean. If they happen to not have an item you're looking for, they can easily borrow it from another library. I think the smaller the library the more organized and the easier it is to find what you're looking for. My class loved Free Willy, and both of the books!

A cozy little library…read more The first West Hartford library was started in the 1880's when Noah Webster himself donated some books to encourage reading. Since then three libraries have popped up in town, one huge and very impressive main library in the center and two much smaller but still cool and useful smaller branches. The Faxon Branch is a cozy little place that has a lot of charm to it. Nice places to read by the windows and various plants, pictures and cool maps scattered around. A modern library with all the amenities, the library has an impressive collection of books and periodicals in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Vietnamese as well as English to accommodate the diverse ethnic population in the area. Definitely a small branch library, if you want to do any real research you have to travel to the main library. But this relatively small library is a cozy, comfy and useful place to spend some time.

I always push my luck and stay until the last 3 mins... The man (who I presume is the manager) is a big pacer. So we checked out their public library. What a beautiful place! The staff are welcoming and kind. The 3 floors of books are conveniently and hospitably set up, with lots of tables/chairs. Brightly lit, with several spacious study rooms along the sides. Basement is children's books, first floor nonfiction, and second floor fiction for the most part.

Occasionally I'll stop by when I have a book in mind that I'd like to check out. The Bishop's Corner Library is a branch of West Hartford Public Library. This is the smallest of the three libraries in town. Despite being small, there's everything here. A smaller library is so much easier to navigate. The books are well categorized, whether they're biographies, fiction or new releases. They have a quiet study area on the opposite end of the library from where the children's play area is. They have books for every child's interest. There's also computers that are marked by child's age. I stopped by the library for a specific book. It was in the new releases. It's actually a book that was released just a few months ago. And they had it at the library. You can check out with a librarian or at the self checkout. The checkout is very easy to use if you have your library card on hand. I have been going to this library for many years, I will continue to do so for many more.

I'm really happy I was able to meet Susan she was one of the coolest people in the library she actually gave us a chance to investigate one of the haunted rooms seeing we are a paranormal team that chance was given and me and my brother can't thank you enough because not a lot of people wanna give that chance to a team that's just starting out and even learning more as we go along with our investigations we will definitely be back to do some more paranormal investigating this place didn't disappoint at all again thank you Susan .

1654. That's a looooong time ago. But that's when the first settlers arrived in Ansonia. So it…read moremakes a sense that most of the homes in this area, at least on Elm Street, precede the American Revolution. This is a 2-sided marker from the CT Historical Commission in the familiar white lettering on a blue background. It has the same inscriptions on each side. The marker was dedicated in 1976 and is in excellent shape. The blue background is fairly bright with no signs of fading or peeling. You can see the marker directly across from the Police Department, more or less at the intersection of Elm Street and Platt Street. The full inscription reads: Here the first settlers came in 1654 and established a settlement called Uptown Derby. It is now part of the City of Ansonia, incorporated in 1889. South of this green is the home of General David Humphreys who, as aide-de-camp to General George Washington, accepted the British colors in surrender at Yorktown. Many of the private homes on Elm Street are pre-Revolutionary and the Episcopal cemetery has gravestones dating back to 1741. During the Revolution, men who lived here served with the Second Connecticut Regiment and drilled on this green, then called Cankwood Plain.
