Main course was the market fish, a bl we fin tuna variant on a wonderful green sauce that's apparently a local delicacy, although we passed on the beef lardons that normally go with it. Even without the lardons, it was fantastic For desert, they named to Manchester a vegan chocolate cheesecake option. That, and a couple of glasses of port, rounded off the evening nicely

When I asked what she recommended, she said that the Aglio and the Te Ika Mata are great paired together - so that what we went for. The Aglio is Confit garlic, Rosemary salt and Truffle Mascarpone. The Te Ika Mata is raw market fish (cod today), coconut, coriander, chili and lime. The Aglio was warm and fresh and the the confit garlic had a great flavor without being overpowering and was very good. The Te Ika Mata had a wonderful flavor - a hint of lime mixed with the coriander (cilantro for those from the U.S. in a liquid with subtle coconut flavor. The flavors worked so well together - I was very pleasantly surprised and our server was right - the two (Aglio and Te Ika Mata) worked very well together. It was light yet satisfying and I would absolutely order it again!

We opted to substitute the flounder dinner which was supposed to have a burnt butter sauce with capers. What we got was a burnt fish with burnt capers. Pretty sure someone got confused on the recipe in the kitchen. It was served without apology. We ate it...the fish inside was good, but the rest was inedible. Not sure it was worth the ferry trip from Pahia.

After paying $50 for two drinks and an order of fries, this was quite surprising. She refused to remake the fries and offered if we want to pay for another order, she'd be happy to put it in. The best part was she made sure to admonish us and let us know we should have said we were vegan while ordering... to which I would respond... who assumes fries come with cheese? Not the kind of service I would have expected. Not a nice start to our stay. The only redeeming quality is that the bartender was awesome. Needless to say, we won't be eating or drinking here again over the next week and will be sure to tell others this isn't the place we'd recommend.

Taking you from the wharf in Paihia in the beautiful Bay of Islands in NZ's Northland, this dinner…read morecruise takes you out and in for a close up look at the Haruru Falls whilst serving you what turned out to be a decent dinner. Being my usual self i cannot remember names very well so i cannot recall the skippers / host name but he was a real friendly guy who kept everyone entertained throughout and made sure ran as it should be. But firstly be warned when you first set off he will get everyone to get up and introduce themselves and say a little something about them. For this he gets you to don a sailors hat and a pair of them silly glasses that conceal your real eyes so as to make it less of an embarrassment. Then as you sail up towards the falls everyone is free to mingle if so wish or just take in the scenery passing by. The crew on board get busy preparing the food. Starters was garlic bread , shrimps and mussels. A choice was given for the main . Either T-bone steak or lamb. I chose the lamb and i must admit it was the best lamb i have tasted for a long long time. Awesomely delicious!!! My other half thought her steak was okay but obviously not as excited about it as i was with my lamb. I reckon these guys should be on Masterchef or the like!! A bar is open and the method of payment is that you set up a tab and pay before returning to Paihia. They will take you up close to the Falls and photos are taken and then back to Pahia. We bought tickets through a special deal so it was a pretty good price and i reckon it was really good value for money and a good alternative to having dinner sitting in a restaurant on the street somewhere. Oh....and almost forget there is no chance of you getting seasick on this boat as it is real slow and does not go out into the open sea.
