Beautiful and off the beaten path. Grand entrance, like a castle should look in my minds eye. Roaring fire as you walk into the lobby. Deep couches to relax with a hot cup of tea, and elegantly decorated ladies room, worth a visit even if just to wash your hands.

I am so upset at myself for only booking one night here. This was one of the highlights of our entire two week trip. Next time we visit Ireland we will be staying here for much longer. The excitement and feeling of specialness or luxury starts when you pull your car onto the tiny ferry that takes you across the water to the island. The short drive from the other side to the hotel is pretty and makes you feel like you really are approaching something special. The parking area is large and a very short walk to the door. Or you can pull up front while you check in and unload your bags. The service is amazing, very helpful and friendly. Every single employee we came into contact with during our stay was wonderful. The castle is clean and well maintained but still gives you the feeling of going back in time. I felt like royalty while we were here. The room we stayed in was huge and beautiful. The bathroom was clean and had an amazing old style bathtub. The bed was comfortable and we had a great view from our window. The common rooms were warmed by amazing fireplaces and the bar had a fantastic drink menu. The breakfast was great and so was the afternoon tea we booked. One of my favorite things was the property. The grounds are fun to explore. You could spend an entire day just walking around. You can find everything from fairy houses to a small lighthouse. I can't wait to come back here again.

From car ferry to driving thru the tree lined road that leads to the castle is enchanting. The moment you walk thru the doors, you experience begins. You feel as if you've been transported to another era. We stayed in the presidential suite, and I felt like a queen. This is a must visit. Very romantic.

Review Highlights - Waterford Castle

You take a ferry over to the island, and drive up a tree lined road to a beautiful castle, the setting is magical on it's own island!

Kilkea Castle Hotel - Cool huh

Kilkea Hotel is a spectacular and beautiful property. The renovations to turn it into a hotel…read moreinclude some modern amenities but keep a lot of the historical charm of the property which I appreciated. We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

The property itself is stunning. Plenty to do between golf, the spa, the gym, bird flying, walking around and great food plus drinks. We made the 30 minute ride to the outlet malls and loved that also. The proper Irish breakfast to start everyday was amazing! I wish they would bring that to the states. Thanks again for the hospitality! Cheers
