Gorgeous! Just absolutely stunning in every detail. The bathrooms are a work of art! Tbr gigantic fireplace in the entrance is so cozy and burned with areal wood that cracked and smelled glorious. My daughter & I spent the night here on July 4th & all I can say is WOW!! Talk about being in the lap of luxury! Can you imagine taking a ferry from the town of Waterford to "the island" without even getting out of your car, then drive the roads that are lined with trees while looking at all wonderful scenery & foliage only to land in front of this spectacular castle where you would be spending the night (or more if you're lucky!)? Let me just say it's pretty wild & if you can afford it, even for one night as I did, I would do it as it's a once in a lifetime thing! Now there are 2 types of accommodations at the Waterford Castle. The castle itself & the "lodge" which is not physically attached to the castle, it's just a tad bit down the road but it is still eloquent in its own right. It's additional accommodations to the castle. My review will be based on the "castle" as that is where we stayed & loved it!! First off, accommodations are not cheap, whether it be the castle or lodge. But with that said the castle is the epitome of elegance & luxury! And to me, this is a once in a lifetime experience so go big or go home! When you drive up & walk through the castle doors you feel like you've found paradise & are about to fall back into time. But when you enter your room (and each room has its own name & is unique in its own way) you know you're in Heaven. The beds are large, comfy & fluffy, when you walk in you'll notice a chocolate on each pillow, the room was huge! They had an armoire for storing your clothing, TV, windows to open, chairs to relax in & the bathroom...OMG I loved the pull chain on the toilet! Too funny! And the huge bear claw tub - to die for!! We arrived later in the evening & the dining room was just getting ready to close for new service (5 or 10 minutes left), however the person who was checking us in at the front desk said that he would tell them we were coming. This allowed us to be escorted to our room with our luggage as well allow me to park my car in the appropriate area (you can park in front of the castle to check-in, unload your luggage, etc., but have to move it for long term which is just a very short walk). And I must say that out of all the places I've had the pleasure of staying at in Ireland, Paris & Rome, this was the only place that had wash clothes in the bathroom. What can I say, small things like this make me happy. The Munster Room Restaurant was spectacular, this is what fine dining is all about! I really wanted to take pictures of the dining room & our food but my daughter was a tad bit embarrassed. Ok, she was thoroughly embarrassed & said no one else was doing it so I shouldn't (There were only 2 other tables with 2 people at each, but it was the end of the dining time so I'm sure there were probably more earlier). I did manage to get a few shots of the room we were dining in as well as 1 picture of our dessert but that's it. There was a pianist playing lovely music, after he left they scrolled through some channels of music, one of which had the Bee Gee's singing Stayin' Alive...I almost told them to go back to that station. ha ha Eating in the dining room is 60 EU each person, it's a 5 course meal & is fabulous! They do have room service but from what they told me the selection is limited. The breakfast was good & served in a different dining room from dinner. There are several things laid out for you to serve yourself (juice, coffee, fruit, muffins, etc.) & then there is a menu with main course so to speak to choose from (Irish Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, omelets, etc.). Now after being seated it took quite a while before anyone even bothered to ask us if we were ready to order (15 minutes or so) but we did notice that they were quick to attend to other guests who were seated way after us. Not sure what was up with that. When they finally came to take our order my daughter ordered Eggs Benedict & I ordered an omelet with no cheese. The food arrived in a decent amount of time but when I cut into my omelet it was oozing with cheese & didn't even have what I asked for on the inside of the omelet (completely different omelet). I had a hard time trying to flag someone down as the person that took our order was nowhere to be found. Finally got the attention of a gentleman who took the omelet back. Sadly it took so long for the correct omelet to make its appearance at our table that my daughter had already finished her meal. She loved her Eggs Benedict, my omelet tasted ok but I was just disappointed in the service from start to finish in the dining room for breakfast. This would be a 5 star review however, with the breakfast fiasco I took away 1/2 a star so I consider this a 4-1/2 review. All-in-all this was a fabulous experience & I am glad we got to spend one night here (wish it were more to so we could explore). The place was clean, organized, the staff was great & pleasant. When we went to Ireland, we stayed for the most part at various castles throughout the South. We stayed 2 nights at Waterford Castle and it was just fabulous. It is old but in great shape. The room was huge and the staff was great. We had Irish Breakfast there every morning, which was very good. It is only an hour North to Dublin and the Waterford store (a yawn) is near there. The drive to Dublin from Waterford is also lovely. I would stay at this castle anytime. read more

I am so upset at myself for only booking one night here. This was one of the highlights of our entire two week trip. Next time we visit Ireland we will be staying here for much longer. The excitement and feeling of specialness or luxury starts when you pull your car onto the tiny ferry that takes you across the water to the island. The short drive from the other side to the hotel is pretty and makes you feel like you really are approaching something special. The parking area is large and a very short walk to the door. Or you can pull up front while you check in and unload your bags. The service is amazing, very helpful and friendly. Every single employee we came into contact with during our stay was wonderful. The castle is clean and well maintained but still gives you the feeling of going back in time. I felt like royalty while we were here. The room we stayed in was huge and beautiful. The bathroom was clean and had an amazing old style bathtub. The bed was comfortable and we had a great view from our window. The common rooms were warmed by amazing fireplaces and the bar had a fantastic drink menu. The breakfast was great and so was the afternoon tea we booked. One of my favorite things was the property. The grounds are fun to explore. You could spend an entire day just walking around. You can find everything from fairy houses to a small lighthouse. I can't wait to come back here again. read more

From car ferry to driving thru the tree lined road that leads to the castle is enchanting. The moment you walk thru the doors, you experience begins. You feel as if you've been transported to another era. We stayed in the presidential suite, and I felt like a queen. This is a must visit. Very romantic. read more

Pretty disappointed in our stay here. The castle/restaurant was closed for a wedding and we were only informed about that after we had already booked the lodge and the money was non refundable. They said that everything would open back up the next day at noon but our check out was at 11... beautiful castle and the lodges were nice but communication could have been better. WiFi was not great either. read more

We actually didn't even plan on going here - we decided rather spur of the moment to go to Waterford and then booked one of the lodges here. EVERYTHING surpassed our expectations! Katie at reception was incredibly welcoming and helpful, especially on the second day when we decided to extend our stay. Ilario the best bartender in Ireland (no seriously, he won that award) made life changing drinks for us in the bar that night and again when we went back the second night! He garnished my dads martini with lemon peel from lemons grown in his own garden in Italy! He made a drink my mother, who rarely drinks raved over. Truly magical with the drinks, that one! As for the accommodations themselves, we had a gorgeous three bedroomed lodge, complete with full kitchen, 2 ensuite rooms, a bathroom with a rainfall shower, a powder room downstairs, and a sitting room with flat screen tv and gas fireplace. All the bedrooms had a small balcony and really comfortable beds. The sofas were sleepers if you had a larger group. The island itself is gorgeous, and you can do scenic walks, golfing, driving range, tennis, really loads of things. The ferry to the island ran on schedule. For our final experience we had afternoon tea, which was delicious. Highly recommend the entire experience! read more

The castle was nice and the rooms were comfortable. Each room is different in the castle. When we arrived there was a wedding going on. They use the lobby for the ceremony so it was awkward trying to check in while there was a wedding going on. Our room was great. The restaurant was great as well although it was expensive and dinner lasted almost three hours, you did however get a great dining experience. The food in the club house was also great and much more casual. The ferry to and from the island was a little inconvenient because you were very secluded once on the island but there were trails for walking and the deer were fun to watch! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Waterford Castle. The location is beautiful, as you would expect being on an isolated island in the middle of Waterford. We explored the Castle grounds and even enjoyed a round of golf at the amazing course adjacent to the castle. The staff was friendly and attentive and assisted with all our needs. The rooms are finely decorated and give you the "castle feel" you are looking for in an overnight stay in a centuries-old building. Overall an excellent experience, 5 stars! read more

We got married in Waterford Caste in July. It was perfect, brilliant location, great staff, and the food was amazing. The castle is such a gorgeous location, and the rooms are great. The holiday homes are really great as well. We couldn't have asked for more. We initially chose Waterford Castle last year as they were very easy to do business with, and the Wedding Coordinator (Gillian) is an amazing person. This was one of the highlights of our week long Ireland trip. You take a ferry over to the island, and drive up a tree lined road to a beautiful castle, the setting is magical on it's own island! The rooms were clean, nice, and very romantic. This is a great place to relax and read a book. Dinner at the Golf Club house was excellent and not expensive. If you love history and architecture you will enjoy this hotel. A must do in Waterford. read more

We stayed here for one night during our two week vacation in Ireland. The grounds are beautiful and probably everything you expect a castle to be. The room was outdated but it seems that is typical for castles and obviously there was no AC. The food was okay at the restaurant and pretty terrible at the golf course cafe. My wife and I stayed here for one night on our trip to Ireland and it was amazing. The Castle is on its own private island, so a small ferry brings you and your car to and from the Island. We went for a walk on the Island and it is beautiful. There was a small group of deer grazing and tons of birds and beautiful landscaping. Dinner in the main dining room was excellent! The very nice waitress had no problem taking our picture and even insisted, after the dinner, that we go out to the main lobby so we could get a photo by the fireplace. After that, we had a drink at the bar, whiskey of course, and both the drink and the bar were absolutely spectacular. Our room was a 2-room suite with a huge bathroom. The shower curtain issue that others have mentioned is a pain in the neck, but not nearly enough to detract from the room overall which is very old but very very beautiful. One last thing - the 'king size' bed is actually two twins pushed together. Maybe they can't maneuver a proper king size mattress into the room?? but in any event they should have done a better job on that. read more
