We found the property on Airbnb…read more It's a 300 year old thatched roof cottage. 2 bedrooms (a master with a queen bed and another room with twin beds) one bath, a family room, and a kitchen. It just looks and feels what you think of when you think Irish Cottage. The cool thing is you can stay there for 2 nights and you don't have to rent the whole week...although you definitely should. And will kick yourself like I am for not spending more time there. In 20 minutes you can walk the parimeter of the whole town. The bonus is there is access to Kells Priory a mere 5 minutes walk from the house. It is sooooo cool to go around there and look at the ruins. There are two abandoned mills to look at too. There is a cool pub that makes pizza, called Shirley's. Kells is close to the medieval town of Kilkenny. You could drive to Wicklow, Waterford, Wexford, whatever from there. Closeby is Stoneyford which has a cheese shop and good take away Indian food. The owners of the property are right next door and are suuuper cool.

I'm sure it has not changed very much over the years, but it's kept extremely well and with a lot of love, I'm sure. Our bedroom, the blue room, was beautiful, very comfortable and had two great views. The study and dining room both had welcoming fires in the evening. The dining room even had one in the morning while you enjoyed breakfast. The breakfasts were probably the best I've had in an Irish guesthouse. A huge array of tasty fruit, including fresh raspberries from the garden. Homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and excellent coffee. A full Irish if you wanted it or a smaller selection of items from said full Irish. Bobbie ensured you were catered for. We opted for the five course meal in the evening on the day we arrived. It was wonderful. We shared the dining table with another couple, who were also celebrating their wedding anniversary. They were regulars of Lorum, that's how much they love Lorum Old Rectory. A testament to Bobbie and the service she provides. I look forward to returning to Lorum. And recommending it to anyone who will listen to me.

The Carraig Hotel in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary is a lovely place and is the center of social…read moreactivity in the town. We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.
