Sent email and reply stated it had only been 3 business days and there were others in line ahead of me. I waited a total of 10 business days still no word. I stopped to pickup my firearm and was informed i had to wait until it could be retrieved from a different building cause they dont do repairs on site. As much as two days. I got it the next afternoon but had to make two trips. So, poor communication, offsite repairs, also i was told there were 7 people ahead of me. After 10 days it seems they could have done one gun a day and got it to me faster. At least inform me there would be a delay. The point is communicate.

I next enrolled in the CWP class which was very informative. Information was provided in a factual yet friendly way. After taking the written test, we went to the range for the performance portion. I know I was prepared and felt confident due to my training with 1st Defense. Being a female, I was also thrilled to support and reccommend a Female Owned Buisness. Thank you!

When I lived in Charlotte, I attended a safety seminar sponsored by my employer uptown. The speaker…read morewas Sgt Irwin Carmichael, a Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Deputy. He gave an engaging, impassioned talk about personal safety based on his many interviews with hardened criminals. I was impressed enough to take his half-day Women's Self Defense seminar at MATI on a Saturday morning -- WOW! Aside from having a great time, I learned a lot and forever changed how I view my personal safety. A quote I've always remembered is, "If a stranger is in your kitchen at 2 a.m., he is not there to have breakfast with you!" Sgt Carmichael brought in some fellow law enforcement buddies and some Navy SEALs to assist him in the class. We learned many self defense moves as well as the profile of an attacker, different techniques for getting out of strangleholds and grabs, and points to consider around your home security. Sgt Carmichael and his associates demonstrated the defense moves, and then the class practiced with each other...and practiced...and practiced! At the end of the class, the front door is closed off while the Navy SEALs and other well-trained law enforcement officers take up their positions outside to lay in wait for you! Then one by one, each student takes her turn through the gauntlet outside of being "attacked" by the "perpetrators", through which you must use your newly-acquired skills to escape! I highly recommend this self defense class. I promise you'll never again walk by a pickup truck, park next to an SUV, or look down at your shoes while walking. I do, however, think of Sgt Carmichael nearly every time I wear my long locks in a ponytail! (oops!) I also have his book, Women's Awareness Response, and recommend that as well. I wish I could take the Concealed Weapon class here, but now I'm 2,000 miles away in Joe Arpaio's county. Definitely take the self defense class at MATI, at a minimum!

They were incredibly courteous, knowledgeable, and non-judgmental. Students from various backgrounds and skill levels were treated politely and respectfully. I walked away from the experience with a greater understanding of concealed carry training. I truly enjoyed my time with Sheriff Carmichael and his knowledgeable team. The location was easy to access, and the parking lot was convenient. Being close to Charlotte was a plus as well. I highly recommend this course. I also appreciate the efficiency of Sheriff Carmichael and his administrative team; registration was straightforward, and we were always provided with clear instructions.
