However, every effort was made and they truly came to my rescue. They got me in quickly, treated me with care, and made sure I wasn't in pain for the holiday. The front desk and scheduler was incredible--so understanding, calm, and compassionate. I wish I remembered her name because she absolutely 'moved mountains' to help me. You want a mechanically inclined dentist because it's mostly a hardware project when it comes to teeth. Dr. Schmidt is mechanically inclined and does great work with minimum pain. That was no surprise to me, especially after I saw the x-ray that was done. He gave an excellent assessment of what we could do now and what needs to be done in the future. I have some serious dental problems that are aggravated by diabetes. I found him to be thorough quiet-mannered. and very gentle in his examination of my teeth. I see I'm not the only one who had an awful experience at this dentist office and who they tried to…read morescam. First off I was told I have periodontal disease on my first visit. I've never been told that in my life; I have good dental hygiene and go to the dentist regularly. When the dental hygienist was measuring my gums, she was shoving the measuring tool so deep, I was in agony. I've had this done many times and it never hurt like this. It was from these measurements that she decided I have periodontal disease and that I would need a deep cleaning, which I've never needed before. I decided to go to my old dentist in Portland for a second opinion and sure enough, he remeasured my gums (didn't hurt this time!) and came up with different measurements and said I'm within normal range and that he did NOT agree that I needed a deep cleaning. I can only come to the conclusion that the dental hygienist was making an effort to get higher measurements to lead to a diagnosis of periodontal disease so they could do an unnecessary procedure and charge me/my insurance for it. Secondly, the night guard I got through this office was too loose (literally was falling out of my mouth when I laid on my back and opened my mouth). I went back to ask them for a new one and was told it was "good enough" and was denied a new one. The second opinion from my old dentist was that it was barely good enough and that he would have had no problem giving someone a new one if it fit that poorly. Another thing that outraged me was that I paid over $700 out of pocket for my night guard through Stevenson dental and later found out that my Portland dentist charges only $300 for night guards!!! So I paid more than double what I should have for a night guard that doesn't even fit properly. Truly just unbelievable. Needless to say, this is no longer my dentist and I've gone back to my dentist in Portland. Horrible experience, waste of my money and time. I believe this dentist office does not have enough revenues because it's in a small town and they are trying to rip people off that have good insurance by telling them they need unnecessary procedures and over charging them to make up for their low revenues. SUPER scammy. Watch out. Portland Modern Dentistry is a 50 minutes drive from Stevenson and won't pull this kind of crap. I recommend going there instead. Or Hood River. Just anywhere but here.
