WM is starting up another campaign to rip consumers off. The new "we only pick up bins" program is a load of crap. Using the excuse that weather impacts plastic bags is moronic. They also talk about environmental concerns and yet their drivers leave trash in the street. Saying they cannot pick up trash with the side arm unless YOU rent a bin from them at 130.00 a year, on top of their already over priced charges. They charge more for gas--even though they use propane which is less than petrol. Find a better group who is not going to charge you to death. read more

This place is the worst! We've called them 3 times over the course of 2 days and were told this morning that they had it in their calendars to come to our street. I was walking with my 2 small children to my car on the street. There is no other car or person on the sidewalk nearby. As the WM vehicle drives up, he honks super loud and the sound startled my children and I. We were the only people walking on on the sidewalk. On trash day the trash truck dropped my trash can into the trash truck. I called in an reported it to get a new trash can. The first rep said the request is already in and a new trash can will arrive today (Thursday) or tomorrow. Friday comes around and nothing. Called on Saturday morning and different rep (who sounded like she just woke up) said a new trash can will arrive this morning. Still nothing! Called on Monday and the rep said there was no request and that a new trash can will arrive Wednesday between 6am and 6pm. THATS MY TRASH PICKUP DAY! Worst customer service ever. My trash was not picked up on the scheduled day, Tuesday. I called them to pick it up and they told me it would be pIcked up the next day. WM just doubled my quarterly bill. It was $34 per quarter and now it is $65 per quarter. They did it in April without fanfare or warning. It was unilateral and across the board. What they did is assign a monthly fee to the extra barrels they had given me no charge. That's right. Down through the years they had a policy of giving a customer an extra green barrel or two in case they needed it and there was never any charge for that. Now that I'm nice and comfortable with my number of barrels, they decide to charge me for those barrels - suddenly there it is on my bill. I call them. "We are now charging for those barrels. We know we gave them to you and told you there would be no cost. But we changed our minds." Just like that. Unethical as hell but I would love to have a company that could double it's profit unilaterally without asking. read more

Their trucks and the people on them are great! The office, customer service and administration are useless and a nightmare. I had service with them for 25 years and then moved less than a block away. They couldn't get my autopay transferred, and I didn't know it till I got a delinquent notice. It took 4 phone calls; each person was clueless and unwilling to help. During those 4 phone calls I had to repeat ALL my information at least 8 times, and they couldn't figure out why I got impatient. I finally figured it out myself. Now I will have to check each month to make sure it's happening. Yes, it's a monopoly. Yes, I'm stuck with them, for now. One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. They 'miss' our trash can, even though our neighbors trash can is right next to ours, which does get picked up. Calls and emails for missed pickup doesn't solve the issue. The customer service rep will reschedule a pick for the next day, but no one ever shows up. Do yourself a big favor and just dump your junk on the side of the road somewhere. You'll save yourself time, money and the trash will make it to the dump eventually. Irvine WM obviously has it's priorities way messed up. If a resident takes time out of their weekend to 1) rent a uhaul 2) drive their waste directly to the dump and 3) unload it all themselves they should be rewarded not hit with a huge fee. Irvine WM now has a minimum fee of $85 they will charge you to drop off anything at this waste center. Doesn't matter if you are simply disposing of a few smallish items, they will charge you the same amount as if you were disposing of ONE TON of waste!! All for the pleasure of doing their job for them! Yea, they obviously are trying to encourage us to illegally dump and you can bet that is what I'm going to do in the future. I needed to recycle and unusable mattress. I called and spoke to customer service. She said "just bring it in, no Problem! You don't make an appointment, you just show up." She was very nice. She said there may be a fee of about $20 because of its size. My husband brings it down to the recycle facility within the posted hours, no where near closing or lunch time. They were rude and acted like he was inconveniencing them. They said it would cost $52 to leave the mattress. This is not in our budget so he explained that on the phone they said $20. The man was extremely rude. My husband used a different word that I don't think I should put on yelp. Bottom Line, find somewhere else where the customer service reps and employees are all aware of the services and their cost. A place where they don't expect all of their customers to be experts in recycling as well as not need any assistance. read more

Scheduled a large items pick up 4 days in advance, told them in detail each item they would be picking up they sent on person to pick up, he took one item only the only one that could be moved by one person. I have spent the last two days being lied to instead of being helped. I was promised they would come that night to pick up the items then promised the next day it would be picked up no one ever came. on Friday 03-10-2023 WM failed to pick up recycle bin. Bin is full. I called Friday evening, but waste management is closed by the time trash is done in my area. I called again Saturday to have the bin picked up on Saturday. I could not get to a person on the phone only "lisa" the incredibly annoying phone assistant who is NOT helpful. I left a voicemail for a credit or pickup. I called back Monday around 9 am. I was told by brad that I would have bin picked up Monday or Tuesday. He then said likely Monday since its so early in the day. Monday no pick up, Tuesday no pickup. I called back Wednesday and was told I was given a WHOLE $2-$3 of a credit for the missed pick-up and my troubles. Wish I would have known Monday so I would not have wasted my time and left bin on curb until Wednesday. on Friday 03-17-2023 WM failed to pick up the same bin for a 2nd week. I called back and was told they will send a different driver. Drivers have until 6pm for a pick up. I can call back Saturday if pickup fails. I called back Saturday, but again only got "lisa" the incredibly annoying phone assistant who is NOT helpful. I suspect waste management has me on a no pick up list, I'm part of an experiment to see how long a person goes before complaining and keep stringing me along. That or drivers are stupid. read more

This is regarding the WM Bulk Pick-up service. Our contract allows for 2 bulk pick-ups per year. Recently I contacted WM by phone to schedule pick-up a double-sized mattress, box springs and frame, and the a broken patio table stand (basically a mass of metal tubes and plastic). I made the appointment by phone the previous Monday for the following Friday. No one showed up. I called their customer service line on Saturday and was promised that the items would be picked up the next Monday. Again, no one showed up. By then, I had found someone who wanted the frame and box springs, so I only had the mattress and stand left. I called for a third time on Tuesday, and finally someone showed up the next day but only took the mattress. I do have to say that every person I dealt with on the phone was very cordial and helpful. There just seems to be a break in communication between them and the people that actually do the pick-ups. I also had a couple of glass table tops to discard, but WM won't take those. I would need to drive them over to their recycling center and pay to have them to disposed of. There is also a limit of 4 items for bulk pick-up apparently regardless of size. read more

I will follow suit as I see that there are many other unhappy customers of Waste Management. I had the lid broken during collection of my trash. I called and requested a replacement, week after week it was not replaced despite my called every week. After 3wks I was told I would be getting a call from the route manager which did not happen and my lid was still not replaced. I then called to cancel service and was promptly told that it is mandatory due to an ordinance of the City of Irvine. I called The City of Irvine to inquire about this and have to apply to be a SELF-HAULER" of garbage and recycling which I am happy to do. Then I am told by WM that SELF-HAULERS need to supply a weekly receipt of both recycling and trash. It is absolutely ridiculous that a company like WM is allowed to first provide horrible customer service and then continue to make money because customers are essentially forced into service contracts. WM should be reconsidered as the pickup service company for the City of Irvine. There are options that city can choose from. read more

Worst company ever! The driver refused to reload the recycling container although I was waiting aside to dump a few additional small boxes remaining from unpacking. I called the company. They claimed that the driver can only dump one bin per week and that I need to call for additional service and pay $39. What a scam! We were missing one of our trash bins and apparently it was accidentally destroyed by the garbage collectors and threw our bin without informing us. We have called WM SEVERAL TIMES for a replacement and they always promised a replacement bin "will be delivered on Monday". That was 5 Mondays ago and to this date no trash bin yet.
