I really wanted to speak with the general manager before posting anything regarding my stay. However, after numerous attempts of trying to get a general manager's contact info, via email and on the phone, I have been unsuccessful and I have been no choice but to leave this review. My son and I stayed for one night at the Washington Square Hotel in mid July 2025. Based on reviews that I saw online, I thought that it would be fine for a one night stay. We were attending an event at the NYU theater and it was right across the park, so the location was very convenient. I was traveling alone with my autistic son who is seven and I didn't want to have to deal with multiple Ubers and or the subway. Check in was relatively fast and uneventful. I had inquired if they had any vending machines because it was very hot and we needed some water after traveling. The guy at the front desk said there was a vending machine around the corner after the elevator, but only had water and soda. My son is a milk drinker, but he had to settle for water that day, no big deal. We can't win them all. We went up to our room at first glance it looked clean. However, the longer we were in the room, the more I discovered that the room was actually filthy. The closet door was open and there was also a small utility door in the closet, and upon further inspection, I realized went to some kind of pipes. I tried to close it to the best of my ability, but it would not close tight so I put the ironing board against it and hope that nothing would creep through in the middle of the night. The bathroom had blood spots on the floor with what appeared to be an eyelash or some kind of hair in it? At that point, I was disgusted. As I pulled the sheets down for my son to get into bed, there was dark curly hair on the pillows and throughout the bedding. My son and I are both blonde. I ended up stripping all of the bedding except for the bottom sheet. Now, you might say, why didn't you call the front desk and ask for a clean bedding? Well, the answer is pretty simple: they had been absolutely useless. I had asked them upon arrival if they could give us a few options in the neighborhood that had a kids menu. My my son is autistic and is very rigid with what he'll eat. I told them all I was looking for was chicken tenders. We were told they had no idea and couldn't help. The website states that the staff is very knowledgeable about the neighborhood and would able to help guide. Couldn't be further from the truth. The website also shows a rooftop garden. This is another reason why I booked this hotel. I knew my son would really enjoy that. Well, when I inquired about the rooftop garden, I was told that there is a rooftop garden, and I could see it from my room, however, we were not allowed to go out there. The hallways were so narrow that I couldn't even put my arms out without touching the other wall. I'm 5'3", so my wingspan isn't exceptional. The rooms were also small, but I expected this from a hotel in New York City. What I didn't expect was the filth and uselessness and dismissiveness of the staff. Their website also claims that they have a "lounge" outside of the lobby. That space consisted of about eight small function tables with a bar that was about 6 feet long. Behind the bar there was one bottle of gin. That was it. Also, there was a sign in front of the "lounge" the entire time that we were there that said "Closed". I should mention we would be there on a Friday night until Saturday. I paid $350 for this room, that was disgusting, and for a staff that couldn't find their nose, nevermind help the their patrons. The "doorman" stood next to the iPad stand the entire time we were there. I saw people coming and going and he never opened the door or helped with luggage. So, if you don't mind sleeping on used, dirty sheets, having a filthy room with biohazard material in it, such as blood mixed with hair, and also a utility door open to pipes and god only knows what, with a staff that barely acknowledges your existence, much less help you, this is the place for you. See attached photos.

I've been visiting New York for decades but this is the first time I've stayed in Greenwich Village. I've always gotten lost in this neighbourhood, where a 90 degree street grid format and high-rises give way to low-slung brownstones and intersections bisected by 5 or more streets angled every which way, where there's a Greenwich St. AND a Greenwich Ave., a Broadway AND a W. Broadway. By staying here and allotting several days just to explore the area, I was hoping to become a "temporary local", but by the end of my stay I still needed a map. I'd call the Village, especially the West Village, primarily a residential area, plus the main campus of NYU. There aren't a lot of hotels to choose from, and with NYC's recent increased restrictions on short-term rentals, finding lodging in this area can be a challenge. I chose Washington Square Hotel primarily for its location across the street from Washington Square Park. The hotel has been around since 1902 when it opened as Hotel Earle. Multitudes of esteemed writers and musicians have stayed here; I have the 1970's vinyl album "Diamonds and Rust" on which Joan Baez sings about her romance with Bob Dylan in "that crummy hotel over Washington Square" in the 1960's. The current owners purchased the hotel in the 70's, rechristened it the WSH in the 80's and refurbished it to its current modern state with Art Deco flourishes. It occupies adjoining 9-story and 3-story buildings. It's a simple hotel but offers numerous amenities and far more character than a chain hotel. There was always a friendly doorman, sometimes a valet. The front desk staff, which also do concierge duties, varied in friendliness; I had better luck with the female staff. There's a room off the lobby where one can work if it's not reserved for a small event. There's a restaurant and lounge, North Square, which serves lunch and dinner daily and breakfast on weekends. I did not dine here, but the breakfast menu appeared to be prix-fixe and a good value. There's a fitness centre and a massage room. Rooms are on the small side and also simple, but do have coffee machines, mini-fridges, robes and slippers, a safe, great water pressure in the bathroom. My room on the 9th floor also had great natural light. Ice machines are on the first floor only. It was pretty quiet at night. The W 4th St. Metro stop for the ABCDEFM trains is a block away, the Christopher St. stop for the 1 train a bit further. The West Village is the former home to fictional TV characters from "Friends" and "Sex and the City" as well as Taylor Swift--all still big photo-ops for fans. There are hundreds of restaurants in the area, many with impossible-to-get tables/reservations. A charming hotel in a charming , relatively quiet neighbourhood. I've already booked for next year,

When my friend and I went to NYC a while back we stayed at Washington Square and it was great! The hotel was unique and very Art Deco. Our check in process was smooth and easy and they even helped us book a car for drop off at the airport. The room was small, but was perfect since we just needed a space to sleep and shower. The hotel was quiet and clean. It's a great location as it's halfway between midtown manhattan and lower manhattan. Would highly recommend as a great spot to stay if you want to feel more relaxed in NYC and away from more touristy areas.

I LOVED staying at the WSH! The check in and check out process was so simple and the staff were awesome. Upon arrival, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. It could not be in a better location as far as Greenwich Village goes, particularly for walking. There are tons of restaurant and bar options near by including North Square which is inside the hotel (shout out to David behind the bar who was such a kind/amazing soul and made a mean Manhattan and toddy!), a CVS around the corner, beautiful Washington Square park, the famous Electric Lady Studios a street over, a convenient Subway station a half a block up, AND about a 10 minute walk to Cornelia Street (for the Swifties out there) and the Friends apartment. There's also a wine and liquor store (probably more) a couple streets over off Thompson. It was about a 30-35 minute Uber ride from LGA, and between 20-30 minute subway ride from Central Park, Times Square, Flat Iron, WTC, The Battery, and even Brooklyn. It was nice to visit all these happening spots and then escape to a more secluded, quieter area at night. The best of both worlds! Price wise, it was very affordable for this time of year. Definitely call the hotel directly to book (I saved about $400 vs booking through Priceline). The rooms are pretty small BUT this hotel is old and historic so that's to be expected. Everything was extremely clean and pristine, no complaints there! There were also staff members readily available if anything arose or we needed anything. The elevator was never backed up. I also loved the old and cozy decor. Highly recommend! Will stay here again in a heartbeat.

I stayed here this weekend and the bathtub was atrocious. For the amount they charge this is unacceptable. It would be unacceptable at a Motel 6. When I told them at check-out that I would be posting this photo on social media they just shrugged their shoulders.

Traveling during the holidays can be hectic, but the staff at the Park Hyatt made everything feel effortless. Every interaction -- from the front desk to housekeeping to the concierge -- was filled with genuine kindness, patience, and warmth. It was clear they weren't just doing their jobs; they truly cared about making our holiday special. The hotel itself is stunningly elegant yet incredibly comfortable. After long walks through Central Park, returning to our room felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The spaciousness, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury made it easy for our family to relax, laugh, and simply be together -- which is what the holidays are really about. We had our first breakfast in New York at the hotel's "the living room" which is located in the lobby. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with modern decor and stunning 30 foot ceilings. We arrived at 7am as the restaurant just opened and Kamil greeted us with a warm genuine smile. We've stayed at 5 different Park Hyatts in the past 5 years (Kyoto being the most recent) and no one has made us feel as special as Kamil. He has the unique gift of hospitality. He went out of his way to treat us like family and made us feel very special. All of his small gestures, friendly smiles, and thoughtful attention to detail, turned simple moments into special memories. During a season meant for connection and joy, the Park Hyatt delivered both in abundance. Spending Christmas in New York is always special, but spending it at the Park Hyatt New York elevated the experience beyond anything we could have imagined. Our days were spent with full hearts, lasting memories, and deep gratitude for a team that understands true hospitality. This is a place we will return to -- not just for the luxury, but for the people who made us feel so genuinely at home during the most meaningful time of year.

Unfortunately, due to geopolitical instability impacting our return route through Amman and the broader Persian Gulf region, our travel plans became unworkable. I contacted multiple hotels involved in our itinerary, and every one of them demonstrated professionalism and understanding by waiving cancellation fees given the circumstances--including other Marriott properties and the Ritz-Carlton. This property, however, took a completely different approach. I spoke with Samir in the reservations department. He refused to provide any refund. We went back and forth multiple times, and each time he introduced a new justification. At one point, he claimed the U.S. State Department had not advised against travel to the Persian Gulf and that any warning had expired on March 31. I provided evidence that there was no expiration date, yet he continued to deny the request. I also explained that other Marriott properties and Ritz-Carlton locations had already issued full refunds under the same circumstances. Despite this, he continued to refuse any accommodation. Only after I told him I would be leaving a review about my experience did he offer a future credit. That is not a practical solution when I have no certainty of returning to Morocco. I then requested that a manager follow up with me. No one ever did. Communication stopped entirely. This response reflects a lack of flexibility, accountability, and basic customer consideration--especially when compared to how other properties under the Marriott International brand handled the exact same situation. As a result, I had to absorb the financial loss and cancel the reservation. Based on this experience, I recommend considering alternative accommodations that demonstrate greater responsiveness and professionalism when dealing with legitimate, unforeseen global disruptions.

Bonus-it was clean!! The iPad system to control the room is clever: manage the thermostat, tv, blinds/shades and lights. It takes a minute for the iPad to connect (not sure if it's a wifi issue or that these iPads are an older model). Speaking of the thermostat, it kinda worked. I think it shuts off or scales back when there's no movement in the room. I had a hard time getting it cooled down to a good temperature, so I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. The bed is very comfortable, though...and even with the small space, there are plenty of places to hang clothes and store items. Several outlets and USB charging stations available as well. There aren't any washcloths - just hand/body towels... and it's up to you if you want to have your room lightly cleaned or fully turned over. (See your iPad to make that option). There was only one elevator working, so it could take a few minutes to get your lift up or down. The staff that we engaged with were great. Check in and out were super easy. The lobby is pretty cool and hip. There's a small rooftop bar/lounge and a nice sized food/canteen area in the lobby. The location is outstanding. 50th just off 8th Ave...right in the heart of Times Square and walking distance to many other destinations. I would stay here in the future...2-3 nights is perfect. This spot is super centrally located, and during NYFW was an affordable, clean, and hip spot to stay for a few days. I am familiar with CitizenM as I have been to their hotel bars in their Miami locations, but had never stayed at one. I truly enjoyed my experience here. From check in to ordering wine or coffee at the bar, to the room, it was all lovely. I will say, the room is quite small. But truly, what do you need a big room for when you're going to be exploring NYC all day? The bed we got was a king, and dare I say it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. The room is set up a bit like a studio, with two little closets which made it easy to organize and unpack, a small desk, and a vanity in the common area. The toilet and shower are together in what kind of looks like a spaceship capsule in the middle of the room. One cool thing is how high tech this hotel is - you have an ipad that controls everything in the room from the room temp, your blinds, to the TV, to connecting your devices to the TV to stream music, etc. In the lobby bar you can opt in for hotel breakfast buffet, but instead we would just grab coffees as we were getting ready. Grace at the bar was super friendly, as was all of the staff. My one area for improvement is the elevator. We received a notice that one of the three elevators was broken during our stay and every time we would get on the elevator it would take us multiple floors up before going down. Not the worst thing in the world, but just annoying if you're in a rush to get somewhere. If you are looking for an affordable, centrally located hotel to stay with a friendly staff this hotel is your spot. You have multiple subway stations within a 1-2 minute walk which can easily get you to any neighborhood you want to go during your stay. Would definitely return!

Prime location! Modern, spacious rooms (for the city)!…read more The elevators though.... Oy. I stayed at this hotel over the New Years holiday and was thrilled to be so close to Madison Square Garden and Times Square. As was expected, check in was a bit chaotic given the time of year. The ground floor entrance was PACKED with luggage on first arrival. After weaving our way through, we located the check-in desk on the 5th or 6th floor. Tons of people but adequate seating to wait for our room to be ready. An upper floor meant having to figure out their dreaded elevator system. It left something to be desired, to say the least. With only 3 elevators that service the whole of the hotel, and a 4th that goes who knows where, it was almost always a lengthy struggle to catch one. No buttons on the interior of the carriage, all elevators were called with a touchscreen device that seemingly tried to pack as many people as possible into one small space, leaving many behind that couldn't fit, before directing the passengers to another elevator to repeat the whole process over again. One day was so bad, it was actually preferable to walk up the stairs to the 14th floor. Woof. The room itself was wonderful. Spacious, with 2 beds. Very clean. Beautiful view of the city and the arena next door. Great way to catch the sun set. Walk in shower with both an overhead and handheld shower attachment. Great lighting. Shower had heavily frosted glass that faced the bedroom area so be prepared for your silhouette to be on full display for anyone you may be rooming with. Nice sized closet, safe, and mini fridge. Big flat screen television. Window shade worked very well to block out the light if you're hoping to sleep in late. Walls can be a bit thin, especially if you have a rowdy bunch of kids right next door as we did. Aside from the elevators, the perks far outweighed the usual peskier elements (e.g., noise, etc.) one encounters when staying away from home.
