This huge park is located along the Arkansas River, downstream from downtown Tulsa. It's a little odd that they're honoring a New Yorker with a park in Oklahoma especially considering that Oklahoma was still "Indian Territory" when Irving was here in 1832 and he published a journal of his visit in "Tour of the Prairies" in 1835.
The park is peaceful and large with quite a bit of space to walk, explore and just enjoy some nature. There is plenty of parking and if you're so inclined, you can follow my footsteps off the trails and go under the bridge down to the riverside where it is peaceful to be near the flowing water.
There are also memorials here to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and a twisted steel beam from the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.
