Ruidoso Malinois - Sweet Hank at home

    Ruidoso Malinois

    (44 reviews)

If you are considering adding a Belgian Malinois to your family, Ruidoso Malinois is truly…read moreexceptional. Irene genuinely cares about where her dogs end up and takes the time to understand both the dogs and the people adopting them. She has an incredible instinct for matching the right dog with the right home, which makes all the difference with a breed like the Malinois. Owning a Malinois is not a decision that should be taken lightly!!! They are incredibly intelligent, high energy dogs that require patience, structure, training, and a lot of love. What impressed me most about Ruidoso Malinois was not only how well cared for the dogs are, but how much emphasis is placed on preparing the owners as well. Irene and her staff make sure you have the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to handle and understand these amazing dogs. The trainers and staff are excellent, and it is obvious the caretakers form real personal bonds with the dogs. When I brought mine home, they even rushed out to say goodbye, which really showed how much they truly care. I loved my first dog from Ruidoso Malinois so much that I ended up getting a second. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

After hearing about Hank's training and temperament we immediately agreed he was the one for us and headed down to NM. We loved our stay in the Ruidoso area and meeting our new dog. The training they offered was rewarding and informative. They worked with us individually to ensure we were both comfortable handling such a powerful and intelligent boy. Knowing we had another Malinois waiting for us at home, both Irene and our trainer worked with us on how to slowly introduce them to each other in the home to ensure they respected each other. We followed their suggested slow pace and specific instructions to a tee and they are the very best of friends now! Hank is an absolutely wonderful dog and We adore him. People stop us almost daily to ask about him. ( Did I mention how gorgeous he is?) We also do dog sports with him. He is highly ranked both state and nation wide in barn hunt. As well as being a highly competitive and driven dog, he is a well-mannered and loyal family pet. He is very civilized and even tempered in public, but is also a very serious and formidable looking dog. We want to thank Irene for matching us up with this wonderful boy. He is arguably the best dog we've ever had. While we don't even want to think about this, when the time comes that we are looking for another dog, Irene will be our first call.

Franklin Veterinary Clinic - Tickles after her bad treatment...

    Franklin Veterinary Clinic

Very sad to have to write this as I have been a loyal client at this vet for years- in spite of the…read morefact that Dr Brunson failed to find what was wrong with one cat before he passed away in their clinic (multiple visits, same symptoms, necropsy done, found infection in gall bladder, which could have been treated had they done the promisedabdominal ultrasound!) apparently due to the fact that he was purebred and "probably had genetic problems" (her words to me on several occasions), and sent another home to die during the night after sayingvshe couldn't help him, but he "seemed stable".....Then, last Thursday, I brought in my sick Yorkie- nausea, vomiting, lethargy....a senior girl, very frail, known to have congestive heart failure and kidney problems. And we got Dr Brunson again....I agreed to the bloodwork she recommended, the tech took her to the back room to draw blood, and they apparently did everything they could think of to torture my very sick little girl, including full nail clip, ear hair plucking (not needed, I groom her regularly), sanitary (butt) trim (again, not needed, not effective, I cleaned her with baby wipes at home), anal gland expression. I was livid when I looked at the invoice and found all the things they did to her INSTEAD of giving her much-needed fluids...indeed, Tickles was not the same after this experience! Dr Brunson did send home a bag of fluids, despite the fact that I told her I couldn't administer fluids alone...saying "Cover her face with a towel and stuff her under your arm"!! She said it was "not a good idea to hospitalize her on IV fluids" as she "might get too much fluid and overload her heart", tho she also said her heart sounded really good.... then she "wouldn't get much care over the weekend". I spoke to Dr Franklin about all this and he simply smoothed it over, saying some of that stuff "could" be helpful with the dog's symptoms, but he had no idea WHY her ears were done or WHY she was not hospitalized on IV fluids! Then he had Dr Brunson call me the next morning to apologize for "miscommunication" (???she was extremely clear in what she told me...) and demand that I bring my dog back to stay the weekend- which I declined as my dog was feeling much worse and acted like she was sore after being manhandled the previous day, I had no idea what they might do to her if I left her for the weekend (and she HAD told me she wouldn't get much care hospitalized over the weekend)....I took her to a different vet, where we agreed the kindest thing was euthanasia. I truly believe Dr Brunson's treatment of her, and lack of proper, timely, medical treatment contributed to her condition worsening! I have had a lot of positive experiences at this clinic, had a lot of confidence in Dr Franklin...but apparently his staff doesn't share his knowledge and intuition (yet he covers for them), and the recent treatment of my dog, without my knowledge or consent, in fact against my wishes, has really soured my opinion of it! It seems that, with the racetrack out of commission due to flooding, they are trying to charge for every little thing on the clientele they have left and, hence, trying to do everything they can to pets without their owner's knowledge or consent!

Told me I could order Galliprant on line and she would sign off on it. Valley Vet said that the clinic would not sign off on it. The clinic charged $100 more than Valley Vet. When I called the clinic the secretary told me I could pay them $63 and they would then sign off on the prescription with Valley Vet. I told them the vet said she would sign off on it and didn't mention any $63. The secretary told me she was new and didn't know all the rules. After spending over $800 neither of my dogs were helped. I called my vet in San Antonio and he signed off on the Galliprant. I would only go to this clinic if I could have my pets seen by Dr. Franklin or the lady vet who has been there several years.
