I took my two big dogs there yesterday for the day and they loved it! Lots of room to run and play and rest :) the people who worked there were so friendly, attentive and put my mind at ease. This was the first time I've ever boarded a dog and the first time my dogs have ever been somewhere else without me. Having just moved to the Ruidoso area, I was a little anxious leaving our three dogs for 5 days as two are seniors and can be a little high maintenance but all the staff we met were very understanding and caring. We arrived back from the airport in bad weather and Christie (I believe), was very understanding of our slightly delayed pickup. Would highly recommend and I'm sure we will be back! They neglected my dog and the owner has a terrible temper if you dare to leave a negative review. They left my dog unattended long enough for him to chew through his harness that they should have taken off as soon as they walked him to the back. When I picked up my dog, their groomer was angrily screaming at the dogs she was grooming. The owner later told that she was just talking to a difficult dog over the loud blow dryers, but it's pretty easy to tell the difference between angry screaming and loud talking. While on the phone the second time, the owner called me many childish names that would be against yep guidelines to post. He accused me of lying about my dogs age, of hanging up on him mid conversation (didn't happen), and lying about using different boarding facilities. I guess he realized that I wasn't going to take my review down so he no longer had to pretend to care. After my wife called and offered to provide documentation about our dog's history, and the phone number of the other boarding facility we use, he finally gave up and gave us a refund for our dog's terrible experience. Meanwhile, we still don't have answers to many important questions, like how long was our dog trying to get out of his harness before staff intervened? And why weren't we notified before paying that our harness was destroyed? read more

This was a wonderful place! We called them at the last minute because our pupper wasn't doing so well while we skied. We took our dog in and they treated him with love right from the start. They had soft beds for him and a great big yard to play. Facilities were clean and the cat rooms had lots of cool trees to climb on and room to roam. While he was there they gave him a bath and only charged us $30 for the stay and the bath. Locals came in and seemed to have a great report. Highly recommend if you are skiing, but don't want to leave your pup all alone. Thanks for taking care of our baby, Thundering Paws! read more

My girlfriend and I LOVE Thundering Paws! They take amazing care of our dog Chloe, and that is no easy task. Chloe has stayed at thundering paws twice, once for 2 days and another time for 8 days. The staff at Thundering Paws are so helpful and kind. Chloe is a 7 year old great pyrenees/golden retriever mix. She is very sweet but does not get along with other dogs and can be a very picky eater. The staff at thundering paws take the time to make chloe feel right at home and will even find her other dogs that she is compatible with. After we left Chloe here for the 2 day trip, we knew that this would be the place for her when we needed to leave her for 8 days. Like I said, they take such good care of the pets. Chloe had a recovering hotspot when we had dropped her off for 8 days, and by the time we picked her up, her hotspot was pretty much fully recovered! They hand fed her antibiotics twice a day and applied her ointment every day. Chloe was eating well and having an amazing time with her new friends :) When i called for updates, they picked up promptly and kept me updated on everything about Chloe. We lived in Roswell, NM and still dropped Chloe off at Thundering Paws even though there was a kennel in Roswell. The care and attention Chloe gets while staying here makes the drive worth it. I love thundering paws! The staff is always friendly, they have a clean , comfortable, fun resort for our pets. When I pick up my animals they are relaxed and calm, so I feel confident that they had a good stay. Thundering paws has on two different occasions made room for my babies when I couldn't arrive home on the expected date, which left me calm and relaxed:) Thank you thundering paws, we love you! read more

We left our very anxious dog for 4 days. He requires medication and was given one but not the other. We asked for a bath, mail clip and anal gland expressed but none of these things were done. When we got him home he drank water for several minutes. Was he out of water there? Unknown. When we came to pick him we got his bag of supplies but him pillow for sleeping was missing so I had to go back to pick it up. read more

Excellent service and friendly staff. Thundering paws fit our 3 dogs into their bathing schedule for same day service. Our animals were treated well and came out fresh and clean. Thundering paws even cleaned the small dog carrying bag without hesitation after one of the dogs got sick on the ride to the facility. Would definitely recommend Thundering paws. read more

Girlfriend filled out an online application. Received an auto-reply email stating that they'd get back to us within 24 hours. Never heard back from them. This was a week ago. Fortunately our neighbors were more than happy to watch the dogs during our trip to Ruidoso last weekend. read more

I absolutely love Thundering Paws! We have been taking our 3 dogs there for several years. I am very picky about where we leave them. They are my babies. The staff have always taken such good care of them. They abide by everything I ask them to do. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating. Never Again! My mother took her dog to stay while we had a family reunion. Her dog is a tiny Australian Shepherd. She was to stay 3 nights. This dog is my mother's companion and she's actually a therapy service dog. On Saturday night of her stay, they had a teenager there that fed Rosie (mom's dog) with a larger dog, then this teenager walked inside the building and left these 2 dogs alone with food. The larger dog attacked Rosie. Luckily a responsible person at the resort immediately took Rosie to a vet she knew in Capitan. We do not know how long Rosie was in this attack since the teenager walked away from them. The Capitan vet kept Rosie in an oxygen tank, on IVs and meds, watching her constantly for over a week. My mother cried and cried not just because Rosie was attacked but she also had to drive back to Texas, go home, without her Rosie. We finally got to pick Rosie up a week later - she was still wobbly on her feet, she couldn't jump without falling, and she developed diarrhea and throwing up the next day. Could have been from all the meds, the long ride home, don't know but she got over that in a day or two. The owner has NEVER called as of yet to check on Rosie. The manager did - as far as we know, the vet bill was taken care of. We asked the vet to call if it wasn't and she hasn't. The owner also instructed the resort personnel to "not disturb her" (she was on vacation) "because every time they did it was about something wrong". read more
