The concept was very different but much better than the US. You ARE able to use bills and coins. It took me a while to see where the bills are dispensed. But don't go to REWE across the street for coins. It is neither necessary nor appreciated (meaning they didn't like giving me all their coins). There's also a detergent and softener dispenser if needed. I love this idea and don't understand why the US hasn't figured this out. This facility is super clean, quiet and equipped with a coffee machine.

The place is a little dirty, but what laundromat isn't? The rates aren't bad. €5 to wash and €2 to dry, although the machines are quite small. As Qype User said (in German), there are all manner of dark and shadowy characters lurking about. However, the police were very quick to respond to the attempted stabbing while I was there. Paramedics were also quickly on scene. The laundromat itself gets 3 stars, but the neighborhood gets -2. I'll be generous and give it an overall 2 star rating.
