If you value your vision, and your eyes, don't risk it! Typically, I do not leave negative reviews,…read morebut I feel with the experience I had here it's necessary to warn others. After wearing new contacts for a month, I went back per John's request to check the fitting. Everything was great until then. John removes contacts for his patients, when removing mine he was unable to get it out on the first try, then became visibly angry, shoving his fingers in to my eye to remove the contact, it was so hard it pressed my head against the chair's headrest and his fingers jammed in to my eye. There was no immediate pain, but suddenly I had blurry vision for the about an hour. For months I have been left with severe eye pain, extreme sensitivity to light, and painful visual accommodation between near and far distances. Another optometrist was able to confirm uveitis, which usually follows blunt trauma to the eye. Some of the problems are still ongoing, and my vision seems off. I have always done everything to protect my good eye because the other is uncorrectable. Never in my life would have thought to need safety glasses for an eye exam. John denied removing the contact forcefully and even got upset again when I refused a second fluorescein exam. Also, Jana Lee was always very rude, inconsiderate, condescending, and just all around difficult to talk to. For anyone considering Ackerson Eye Care, don't risk it, and please, never let anyone put their fingers in your eye unless necessary.

The Yelp reviews here are super spotty but I needed an appointment fast and close to Park City so I…read moretook a chance (didn't want to drive down to the U). My doctor was Dr. Ian Christensen and it was a super appointment. He was kind, attentive and thorough. I got a regular eye exam and also was dilated to check for health issues. It was all good - and then some. I'll be back to see him Dr. Christensen someday ...

Dr. Christopher Smith looked at the results from several different technicians who conducted the…read morevarious parts of my eye exam, including the image of my retina that cost me $40 extra (it's not covered by insurance). He then looked at my eyes briefly with a slit lamp. He told me I have cataracts but don't need to do anything about them yet. Ok. He then said that they cannot correct my distance vision because I have Age-related Macula Degeneration (AMD). I clearly had no idea what he was talking about, so he gave me a packet of 5 pages to explain AMD. Upon questioning, Dr. Smith, explained that I will lose my vision over time from the center out to the periphery and potentially go blind. He then said that there is no cure, but hopefully there will be one in my lifetime. He told me to make sure I got enough of the vitamins listed on page 3 (not very helpful) and to test my vision regularly on the Amsler grid on page 4. He gave me a new eyeglass prescription which I had filled for glasses and sunglasses. I was upset by his nonchalant diagnosis that I will lose my vision and the fact that he didn't recommend dilating my pupils to double-check what he saw on the retina image or potentially refer me to a macula specialist. I called the University of Utah's Moran Eye Center and had Dr. Smith's reports sent over. Within several weeks, I would see a specialist, D,r. Schmitz-Valckenberg for a second opinion. At The Moran Eye Center, they dilated my pupils and did a new slew of tests and images. Dr. Schmitz-Valckenberg told me I do NOT have AMD and any clouding of my cataracts is not worth mentioning. Given that I still couldn't see very well through my new glasses using Dr. Smith's Rx, I went back to the Moran Center for a Rx check. Turns out the Rx for my eyeglasses was also wrong which explains why I was getting headaches wearing them by the end of the day. I think Mountain Valley Eye Institute functions like a factory without good quality control which for me, resulted in scary and incorrect diagnoses. Other than a month of nightmares about losing my vision and having to spend an additional $350 on doctor bills, I'm so grateful that I'm not losing my vision and that I will see better once my eyeglass Rx is changed. I do not recommend this provider given my experience.
