Please notice the reviews are quickly getting worse. This place was once on of the best shops in town. Well the owner decided to let his son run the place... and you can see the trending reviews. He has ran off all the good help who knew how to fit boots and fix skis! They were also reasonable. It's now just a shop ran by a kid with no knowledge, and looking out to make an extra buck..Super sad. I suggest the other ski shops like the gear room up the street, or ski n see. My husband and I dropped off 4 pairs of skis for tuning and binding repair. I bought the skis and biding from them 2 years ago and the binding already broke. My husband asked the guy who was referred as the head tuner about the warranty on the binding and how it could have broken, as I skied less than 7 times in last two years and I am not an aggressive skier. The head tuner seemed annoyed and dismissive of my husband's questions. When asked about tuning and waxing, the guy was condescending and indifferent. My husband has been skiing longer than this guy has been alive. He has been a customer for more than 40 years. I am sorry we are not young and hip, and annoyed him with questions. Please stop the attitude, and do your job. read more

You are looking at the worst boot punch in the history of boot fitting. This is a boot that I bought elsewhere last winter and had an excellent bootfitter in Park City work on. Fast forward to the spring and I was having some pain in my 6th toe area. I had heard good things about Powder House so I dropped by on my way home from skiing. I brought the boot in and asked if it was possible go do a small punch to give me a little more room. Chuck was the fitter there and said no problem. He took my boot down for a punch and brought it back looking like the photo you see. He stuck my lace up liner in the shell, which was the first clue he had never worked on a race boot. I kindly said "umm this just doesn't look right." Which he verbatim replied "well do you want it to look good or do you want it to feel good?". I've been in this sport for many years and heavily involved in the race world and had many boots fit with no issues. Burning the plastic, melting the felt into it, and placing a golf ball shape bulge in the boot is not how it's done. He proceeded to berate me that I didn't know anything and that doing anything different would not have helped at all. I played it calm although I was sick inside at my boot I had put so much time and money into being ruined. It ended with him yelling at me to get the f**k out. I came back the next day to try and reconcile and a super nice bootfitter was absolutely shocked and embarrassed by what happened. Although no fault of his own, he spent time trying to fix the botched punch as well as he could and did a pretty good job. He was super nice and helpful and totally made me shake off some of the anger. This gave me some solace that the person I dealt with was truly just a one off incompetent and rude person. I did send an email and ask to speak to the owner or manager and never got a response. I would hope that the shop owner would not want this type of work happening at their store. I was disappointed by that. Whatever you do , do not let Chuck(if he still works there) touch your boots. They will surely be ruined. I think it is clear to anyone that has been skiing that a boot should never look like mine did after visiting this shop. By far the worst experience I have ever had at a ski shop. read more

I tried to rent skis and get lift tickets from the Wasatch Powder House. They refused. They told me that it was better if I did not rent from them. What? Are they racist? Not renting to me? But, it was okay. I told them that I was a visitor, and that I was going to take the bus up the mountain. They told me that it was best for me to rent the skis from their location at the ski area so that I wouldn't have to carry it onto to the bus. That was the advice I needed to hear. When I asked them which ski area I should go to, they told me that I needed to go to Alta, and promptly sold me discount tickets. Normally, I give a one star review to anyone that says no to me. But, their advice was great. The ski area that they steered me to couldn't have been better. Awesome place. I wish I could've given them more of my business. read more

Excellent staff, Trevor did a great job with my boot adjustment and the price was fair for the level of service provided. They were also willing to let me try out their work and offered to make further adjustment if needed (they were perfect and I didn't need to take them up on this). We usually go to the ski rental place just down the street that is no-fuss and economical. But that place didn't open on time so we had to look for an alternative quickly. Luckily for us, Wasatch Powder House was just 5 minutes away. Definitely less mom-and-pop; it's more formal, cleaner, larger (and I suspect more likely to open during the announced hours) and slightly pricier. Service was extremely friendly and efficient. Gear was good. A few tips: - store is on the top floor but rental is on the lower floor. So park accordingly if you don't want to carry your gear uphill - right next to a Starbucks for your morning coffee run - you pay when you return the rental (not when you pick up) - I think helmet rentals are free with boot rental? Or they just waived it for us. - they sell Snow Bird and Brighton passes at a discount read more

Before I start I need to mention that I'm a local, knowledgeable and avid skier. I was gifted a new pair of all mountain skis and was eager to get them mounted. I brought them into Powder House and asked to have the bindings put on and do a new skis tune. I was called only about an hour after I dropped the skis off to be told that my ski boots were "too" big for the skis and that he was nervous to drill holes into new skis - Ah what? Don't you do this every day? I wear a women's size 9.5/10 and I've never had a problem with the size boot I wear to fit on skis. He then proceeded to tell me that it was not only the length of the ski boot, but he was afraid to drill holes thru my ski base. Right there. Right then and there I wanted to say "what if you move the heel of the binding forward a few centimeters? Or what about using smaller screws?" I didn't respond with much except "I'll be right there." I spent most of the day confirming with 4x ski technicians in Salt Lake City and Vermont that what I was being told by Powder House was NOT accurate. They don't know what they are doing at this shop technically and I would NOT trust them with your skis. read more

These guys are absolute professionals and very family oriented. They were able to outfit our family of 7 (half skiers, half boarders) efficiently and were sweet with the kids. They have a retail store upstairs with beautiful new gear as well! Best part- equipment is kept in great shape, snowboards and skis are freshly waxed and it's super affordable! Around Memorial Day (Saturday) we decided it was time to up our family's ski equipment game. We strolled into the shop and had a fantastic experience with a young woman (sorry we did not get your name) and Ryan being fitted for skis and bindings. My wife also got a pair of boots (Ryan did such a great job with the boot fitting), and since they were out of my size and foot shape, Ryan referred me to another shop. Heck, we purchased helmets, goggles, clothes, socks, slippers ... whew! The prices were great, and the service spectacular (had to leave them a tip and I had never done that before). The young woman would hunt around doing whatever she could to find what we needed. This kind of experience keeps my faith in retail vs web purchase alive. I never leave reviews but I feel like I have to come and give these guys huge props for their customer service. My husband and I have purchased boots, rented and tested demos and ultimately purchased skis from these guys and gals and all of those services were top notch. On top of all that, I accidentally ended up with the wrong length of skis. I left the shop thinking I'd purchased one length and when I picked them up I ended up with the shorter version. Even though this may well have been my mistake somewhere along the purchase process, they made it right immediately with no questions asked. I'll always shop with them in the future and when friends and family come to visit this is where we will go for rentals, hands down. read more

This place is amazing. I went to other shops and was extremely intimidated by everything the shop offers. They welcomed me with open arms, and helped answer all of my noobie ski questions. Michael helped me find my first ever pair of ski boots. He explained everything from the choice of brand, flex, and even helped me understand the process of molding my boots into my feet. HOW INCREDIBLE. They sell discounted lift tickets and helped guide me around the local resorts. I literally can't wait to have them help me with mounting my skis and everything else. Unfortunately, my buddy bought some new K2 ski boots that were too narrow and cutting off all of the circulation to his foot. Luckily for us, Mike was our Savior. I've been an active skiier for over 30 years and have I have never met anyone so passionate and knowledgeable about Ski boots. As a physician, I felt like he did major surgery to those boots. We actually had round one done in the morning and came back afternoon post skiing snowbird for the final touches. He was patient and wanted to make sure we were dialed in. So both big and little cottonwood were closed, so we stumbled upon Powder House. My husband and I wanted to have our ski's waxed, so it was a perfect coincidence. We waited maybe 20 minutes from start to finish, time for me to grab a Starbucks coffee! Jeremy who helped us was super friendly. Zero stars are not available. I stood in this place for about 20 minutes. Not one employee was present, I was literally the one and only customer in the building. I took some photos of shoes, which I couldn't get in my size or try on...I wanted to purchase a new pair of shoes, guess I'll go online where I won't need to stand around with no emotes present to do their jobs. I was present on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from approximately 12:20 to 12:45pm. Doors were wide open, not a single employee present - I made noise, called out "hello," nothing. I will no longer go to this store - why pay more for literally ZERO service. I will pass this information to anybody who asks...I suppose the big box stores will do better. read more

Tyler.. Thanks for a fabulous ski boot fit. Old boots felt like the devil gnawing on my toes, new ones feel like angels massaging my feet. I came in from out of town, fitting and new foot beds done in a few hours, time well spent. Perfect fit, absolutely no pressure points or break-in time. Price was fair for boots and insoles. At $130 per day for Snowbird lift tix, the right boot and the right fit are far more important to me than a rock bottom price. I rented skiis, from Powder House in Salt Lake and was able to swap out for powder skiis for a day at Powder House in Alta, reswap next day and return the skiis to Alta when leaving. Very convenient. The level of service in the rental shop is extremely high. I recently purchased a pair of demo skis from them. Eric set me up with a nice set of demos for me to try out over a weekend. He was very knowledgeable about the inventory and friendly. He set me up with a great set of skis. When I returned them this morning, Michael let me know about the demo ski sale and was also very friendly and helpful. He recognized that I will be a return customer (I'm local) and made sure I had a good experience with the purchase. I will definitely be returning and referring business in because of the service that was provided. This is in contrast to another local business that is closer to my house, but did not provide the level of service that I've experienced here. read more

We were told it was $25 and payment is due on return. Only the card number is left for deposit. Guess what? When we returned the skis they charged us $40 plus tax! I always visit this location when I am out here skiing. I usually just stop in for discounted lift tickets. This time I decided to demo some fat skis for three days. The website listed the price for just the skis at $49.95 per day. I was charged $64.50 per day upon return of the skis. I thought the price seemed high but I went with it and I left pretty satisfied. A few hours later I really noticed I was over charged. I went back to the shop to get a small refund. PRESTON at the rental desk gave me a full refund of over $200! I was floored! It was unnecessary but very much appreciated. I will definitely be back! Thank you Powderhouse. read more

This company told my husband his rental fee would be applied toward the end-of-season purchase of the skis he demo'd. He paid for the skis in February, told the skis would be shipped to him in like-new condition at the end of April. Got no confirmation, and when the first of may came he called to check. The person he talked to on the phone said they had already shipped, call back in a couple days if they don't arrive. A week went by with no skis, he called back, was told the skis were on the way. Still no confirmation, no tracking number, nothing. When he called again after no skis arrived and asked for a refund, they offered only a refund of the rental fee, $112, not the additional $397 he paid to buy the skis that never arrived. Finally a manager called back and said that the skis never did ship, so the two other guys we talked to lied to us about them being shipped. Additionally, the skis he had ALREADY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR IN FEBRUARY were no longer, in fact, available. They were sold to someone else. Finally she offered a refund and confirmation email. Had to call back the next day to have them resend the email because we never got it. Refund finally showed up, so we are done with them now. their terrible business practices have ensured we will never use them again, and advise our friends in the area of the same. read more

AVOID SKI/SNOWBOARD RENTALS FROM POWDER HOUSE SKI SHOP!! Our family is from out of state and has rented ski equipment at Powder House in the past. This year (2016), Powder House decided to "upgrade" to an electronic rental process. Rather than ensuring their system actual works and becoming familiar with it, the manager decided to use their customers as "guinea pigs" (his own words) and figuring out the system on the fly. In fact, they hadn't even removed some of the shrink wrap from their electronic pads before we arrived. For a two ski and one snowboard package rental in which we were the only customers in the rental facility, we had two employees/managers working to complete the order and the rental still took over 45 MINUTES! When I say "working to complete the order", I mean us watching the two workers aimlessly staring at the pad screen and muttering to themselves. I cannot image the wait time if there were additional customers. So, unless you wish to waste your day watching someone tap an I-pad screen rather than ski, I suggest you look elsewhere and avoid Powder House Ski shop. I know we will from here out. read more
