My children loved attending Wasatch Nature School! Every day they came home telling me all about the things they learned about the birds, trees, weather, etc. Even as tiny children they applied the concepts they learned at school to other aspects of our life. I always felt the school took many precautions to keep my children safe and engaged while exploring outdoors. I hesitated to register my son because he was a runner and I was worried he would run away from the teachers. The staff and teachers listened to my concerns and paid extra attention to his needs. During his time at WNS he (and I) learned some valuable skills in keeping him safe outdoors. I love that the kids are able to learn to be happy outside and are taught how to observe, explore and appreciate nature. You will not find another school in the area like this one. Our family has been attending Wasatch Nature School for over three years now (first kid now in their kindergarten forest school, and second kid in their preschool), and we LOVE it so much. They get outside in all weather conditions ("no such thing as bad weather!"), learning resilience and grit. They do so much play-based learning, all while outside using gross motor skills, it's amazing. It's really the way early childhood education should be - out in nature, using their bodies, not confined to a desk doing worksheets. The teachers are SO GOOD - you can tell they care so much about the kids and they put so much time and effort into the curriculum each day. We plan on sending our oldest to their "Wilderness Explorers" program for kids age 7-11 next year. Wasatch Nature School is like no other school! This is something I dreamed of having in my own childhood and now is a reality for my own children. I absolutely love the teaching methods which mix Waldorf, Reggio, and Montessori. The opportunities for self expression and exploration are amazing. My 8 year old daughter is in the wilderness explorers class and I have been so impressed with Miss Ashley's preparations for each lesson from a gigantic whale backbone when they were learning about bones to having a sound bath for a day to meditate in nature. I also love that I get a recap of that days activities and what they learned. It helps create conversations at home as I can ask more direct questions to my daughter. Wasatch Nature School has been absolutely perfect for all three of my kids, we are on our 4th consecutive year of Wasatch Nature School and I wouldn't have changed a thing except for signing up sooner. This school has taught my kids resilience, courage, compassion, and expanded their love for nature and the environment around them! As a teacher at Wasatch Nature School I can't say enough good things about the program. The curriculum is magical and matches all the amazing happenings in nature around the school each month. For example, we study quails as their cute little families roam our campus in the fall, bald eagles in January as they land in trees next to the river beside us and butterflies as the spring brings white butterflies to the flower fields nearby. The admin is so supportive and have an amazing vision of fostering child led learning through play in the outdoors. I cannot say enough about Wasatch Nature School. It has been such a joy to see the changes in my preschooler this year. Her connection to nature is so magnificent to watch. Having her attend WNS has caused me to want to be outside more and to really discover the world around me. The staff at WNS have my heart.
