We have some experience with realtors, having bought and sold 11 homes in 6 states. We are both attorneys, and I have a Ph.D. in Economics. We interviewed 5 realtors who had been recommended to use by people we trust in the area. We came to the interviews with skepticism toward the typical self-serving bombast that we had so frequently heard from realtors, but at the same time with a desire to find someone in whom we could place trust to take our interests and needs seriously. We anticipated difficulty in finding that person because, on the one hand, by this time in our lives we have definite tastes that we wish to have fulfilled and at the same time, we were not wanting to buy a property that would result in a huge commission for whoever represented us. Fortunately, we found Patrick Howells. He is one-of-a-kind. We made a great choice; Patrick is a gifted listener; he really heard our expressed needs. In addition he worked tirelessly to meet them. Our relationship with Patrick lasted for a complete year. During that time, we would often muse about our difficulty in understanding why we were receiving the kind of treatment that we would have thought would be given only to large commercial purchasers of multi-million dollar properties who would result in commissions for the realtor that would pay college costs for multiple children. But as we came to learn, Patrick gives that kind of service because that is the kind of person he is. We cannot say too much about the high quality of his character and the deep knowledge he possesses of the Salt Lake City real estate market. After interacting with him so frequently, I believe any of us would be lucky to have him for a neighbor or friend. He lives by a credo of treating his customers with the same kind of devotion we bring to a friendship. We recommend him as your realtor with no hesitation. He is terrific. Neil Browne

My association with Patrick Howells began when my son was looking for a home in Highland Utah…read more Consequently, when I decided that I was going to retire and move to Utah, I began working with Patrick long distance from Virginia. Patrick began sending me listings of homes for sale in order for me to get a good idea of what was available and where I might want to live. It took me 10 months to sell my house in Va, and through that very frustrating experience, Patrick was always so upbeat and reassuring that all would end well. Fast forward to May 2015, I arrived from Va, Patrick immediately began scheduling appointments for me to look for my retirement home. It took several months to find a house that would work for me, and throughout this whole experience, I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable realtor who knows the market; has such a good understanding of the building industry, and code, and never tried to pressure me. You will not regret choosing Howells & Company; Patrick will give you the best service.

Steve navigated what turned into a very stressful and high stakes process very well, and he managed to keep our anxiety low in the process. I doubt we would be in our new house if it hadn't been for the swift negotiating he had done at the start and the continued negotiation up until the very last day. Right at the start there was a bidding war, then we had an appraisal come in at 8% lower than we offered, then we had such a tight closing that we would have been homeless for a night if it hadn't been for Steve's very quick negotiation, knowledge, and action. Ultimately, we were able to close on the house at an even better interest rate than we figured at the start, which I attribute to Jeff's help and expertise. There were times I had difficulty in understanding Jeff's technical explanations and guiding advice, but as I have not worked with other lenders/realtors this may well be just how things are when you're buying a home (and is certainly more of a reflection on my ignorance on the subject than on Jeff's know-how). Quite relieved to be done!

We were given a handful of names from family and friends, but were fortunate enough to stumble upon Spencer when we contacted him regarding a property he listed. He offered to meet with us and go over the home-buying process, providing guidance and answering questions. Because he demonstrated professionalism and commitment straight away, we ultimately picked him from our list of possible realtors. He knows the ropes and is a great negotiator, getting the sellers to agree to concessions we were too uninformed to even consider. In a seller's market where you are competing against multiple offers, he knew how to make our offer stand out. When our offer was accepted, we were told it wasn't the highest, but it was the strongest and this we owe to Spencer. He has a great referral network for any home improvements or repairs as well. Having Spencer on our side during an extremely stressful and chaotic closing because of issues we ran into with our lender made a world of difference. He was like a lighthouse in a storm and kept our sanity intact, responding quickly to any questions we had and went above and beyond. We are so grateful we had him as our realtor and highly recommend him.

Dean did a fantastic job of not only listening to what our requirements, budget and goals were but also brought legitimate market insight. Most realtors simply book showings and wait to collect a commission check, but not Dean. He went to properties that he thought we would want, took videos of them and sent them to us so we could see what was available and get a great comparison of location vs price vs quality. More importantly the custom search he set up for us ONLY included properties that met our requirements. When we did our own searches we would ask him about properties that didn't show up on his search and he would politely show us why what we found didn't meet our requirements. Ultimately, we are lucky we inquired the Wilstein Team and got Dean. Knowing that we are always in the market for a great new investment he has continually followed up and sent us comps around the area we bought. We ended up with a fantastic property, paid below market value and it more than exceeded our expectations. Dean understands the market, market growth and is willing to go the extra mile for you.
