Children are respectful and quiet. They are fully absorbed in the learning experience. We have been at the Elizabeth Academy for 3 years now and I only wish we had found out about it sooner. I wish all children could have an educational experience that is as magical as the Elizabeth Academy. In response to the two other reviews... My daughter who is in seventh grade has muscular dystrophy. She was a new student in sixth grade and was heavily encouraged to return in seventh grade. She, in particular, loves the school. For the first time in her life she is not the only child who is different. She is one of two children at the school with a severe physical disability there are also several children with profound mental disabilities. There are many, many children with mild disabilities of varying types. I know that some of these children are there on scholarship and I have seen them return year after year. The school tries to accommodate therapies within the school day. We have been at several schools in two different states. I have never had an educational experience with my children as good as the Elizabeth Academy. I think they do a fantastic job.

The confidence in learning is so evident. They were able to spot a reading difficultly in my child and intervened early and now my child is thriving in reading! Something that I really prize is how the program leads to my child being kind and caring for others. The joy they have in helping the younger children by reading to them, spotting the classmate that doesn't have someone sitting by them and how excited they are to tell me about helping a fellow classmate with a difficult lesson.

Very limited programs, mediocre academics (but very easy grading (probably to keep up the appearance of what they claim) very stifling/judgmental environment and one of the least Christian behaving communities we've seen. So much bullying among both staff and students and so many kids struggling with their mental health, due in part to the uncaring staff and student body. There is no college counselor (as of our departure) , no properly credentialed school counselor (as of our departure) , no math or reading specialist, no leveled instruction, no music program or instructors, very few elective or Honors/concurrent offerings. Many of the teachers are parents who , likely in order to keep their tuition benefit , flood rating sites to mask the poor reviews over the past several years. We were mislead to believe that there was so much to offer here, but our time here proved otherwise.

Our daughter has been attending this school for the past month in the ages 2-3 classroom. She just…read moreturned 3. We love the school. I love that every new teacher is trained before they join a class, and so they are consistently able to meet each child at where the child is individually at a social, emotional, and intellectual level. I love that there are no time-outs, and there is plenty of positive reinforcement. The teachers are so kind, and full of empathy and compassion, that it takes any pressure off the kids and creates an environment of unconditional acceptance. Lacey and Paige and all the staff are simply wonderful with the kids. Our own daughter used to have meltdowns, and since she has come here, they have completely stopped. They respect that she doesn't like to be touched and doesn't like to have an audience while going potty. We know she is receiving individualized attention, because we see improvements daily. In under 3 weeks, she came home able to pronounce certain sounds that she struggled with - as a result, we were able to understand her better, which resulted in her being a lot calmer. The classrooms are full of natural light, and they have a sweet play area in the back with a play set and a sand box. There are plenty of sensory materials available. The children have access to various art media and materials also. Within the first month of school, they have used Play-Doh to build habitats for animals in the grasslands, they've made animal footprints using plaster (assisted by their teacher, of course), have painted with watercolors while listening to music, drawn self-portraits by looking into mirrors, and have made multimedia seashell and sand collages, among other things. The art is not constrained and Pinterest-worthy - instead, experiences are aimed at helping children learn how to use various media and work around a theme to create their own stuff. The kids also have music and dancing time. The children get a fair balance of outdoor free-play, indoor free-play, and teacher directed activities. There's a fair amount of imaginative play involved. While the curriculum is not rigorously academic (i.e. your child will not learn to write all the letters of the alphabet in week 1 of school as a 2-or-3-year-old), there is a focus on cultivating scientific thinking and curiosity, and they are equipping the kids with skills necessary to excel at Math. It's a child-led Reggio Emilio school. They make sure social skills are incorporated into learning experiences. Last month, for instance, the kids built an airplane for the class to sit in and took turns "flying" the plane. They also hosted their own market with fake money and products, and took turns buying and selling goods and returning change to customers. They have been building habitats for the African grassland animals they learned about. They have been measuring object sizes and lengths. There is art incorporated into their Science lessons. Among other social skills, the kids also clean-up after meals, wiping down the tables and sweeping up crumbs. They fold away their bedding and put it away after nap time. My daughter has come home so proud and confident that she can help around the home and contribute these things. The teacher also has conversations with the kids during lunch, which is so crucial - to be able to listen, and take turns speaking at dinner. The snacks provided are nutritious, diverse, and not junk food (apricots, cheese, turkey, crackers, fruit, a variety of vegetables and hummus, etc.). I love that they have an app that the teacher uses to provide periodic information about what the kids ate, how long they napped, and activities they did. They also upload pictures and videos. The teacher fills in updates when the kids are asleep or during post-meal cleanup. So while the kids are awake, they have her complete attention. The updates are helpful, because as working parents, we know if our child hasn't eaten or we know if a nap wasn't taken, and can accordingly provision for it. It's also reassuring to check in on my kid when I am on my lunch break. The drop-off and pickup timings are very generous. We can have afford to have a slightly late day at work without having to stress about pickup. The school has far fewer days off than most of the other local schools - so I don't have to worry about arranging childcare for non-school days. Given the small class sizes, trained teachers, the Reggio Emilio approach and curriculum, convenient hours, limited holidays, and individualized attention, this preschool provides full value to its students and parents. We had come here after having our older child at a wonderful school that set the bar really high. And we love the Second Avenues Preschool just as much, if not more. Since hiring a new Director (Lacey) the turnover seems high and the teachers being hired appear to be unqualified and incapable of handling the amount of children in their classes. A couple months ago my husband and I were informed that our child was hitting and spitting in class- my kids teacher and Lacey the Director stated that this behavior had been going on for an ENTIRE YEAR without the daycare informing us- a complete lack of professionalism and communication. Needless to say, we all decided that it was best to part ways. This was a horrible experience to say the least.

We like Judge the best of local HS options. We think the school is solid in some areas, yet worry…read morethat it veers into style-over-substance elsewhere. We see room for reflection and continuous improvement. At an authentically Catholic school, Catholic beliefs and doctrines, as well as Catholic prayer and worship, comprise the cornerstone of mission and identity. Judge is Catholic-lite. Only 50-60% of the student body is of the flock, most of whom are cafeteria Catholics. Each year a swath of students matriculate from non-Catholic middle schools, including McGillis (identitarian and politically left) and Carden (informally LDS). There's lots of secularism. Judge is not going to make the Cardinal Newman Honor Roll. (More traditional families within the diocese, feeling marginalized, have broken off to open a Chesterton Academy.) Our family esteems fostering an expansive worldview. We don't believe this gets accomplished by creating colorful flyers or curating photo ops to pat oneself on the back for appearing woke. We worry that the school gets so preoccupied with the buzz immediacy of virtue signaling that other facets of mission that steward school success become obscured and neglected. Judge eagerly advertises that it is "diverse and inclusive" on every marketing material it produces. Meanwhile, the school remains comparatively quiet about a legacy of academic excellence, opportunities for discovery and exploration of subject matter, helping students develop effective tools of critical inquiry, instilling habits of mind that position pupils on a path of life-long learning, threads of spiritual life, mature behavior, or intellectual honesty. We would like to see Judge redouble efforts to incorporate the latest research findings into a carefully calibrated sequence of classes, programs, and activities. We'd like to see students read Plato, Aristotle, St. Thomas of Aquinas, sharpen their logic and rhetoric, and understand seminal developments in Western civilizations as a wellspring of modern human progress. We'd like a laser focus on the best opportunities in math and science. Judge excels at making students individually known, seen, acknowledged. No one is left to wilting anonymity. This is a strength of the school. That said, there is hand-holding. Sometimes too much, particularly with certain families. We wholeheartedly wish admissions policies were more stringent. As Judge endeavors to get a firm handle on issues that have plagued the school for years (drugs, declining enrollment), more and more talented 8th graders from the top 2 Catholic schools are rerouting to West and Skyline. Judge could do so much to mitigate this by checking certain problems before they ever enter the door! Judge has a solid population of high flyers but we are blown away by how unambitious a chunk of the student body is. Why in the world would parents pay over $10K/year for HS in order to have their student go on to Salt Lake Community College? This gobstopping scenario is not as uncommon as one might imagine. We'd like less emphasis on football and don't think any HS sport needs to hold conditioning earlier than 7:00 a.m. Just not healthy for teens. The physical space of Judge is a ticking time bomb--dated, financially insolvent to fix, not enough acreage. The diocese aspires to sell the property and embark on a new campus at St. Ann's. If this project is moving forward (hopefully it is but a bit shrouded in mystery), it's doing so at a snail's pace. The diocese regards teaching as a vocation and pays teachers hideously low wages. It is so egregious that as of 2016 they longer publish their educator salary schedule in the public domain. Diocesean schools rely on hiring unlicensed. No one is National Board Certified. Judge can't offer an IB program. In spite of this, there are tremendous educators on the faculty. As these stalwarts gray, the school needs to have a plan to hire and retain quality replacements. Ultimately Judge does offer a debonair social network. Akin to a giant fraternity/sorority. Families remain connected to Judge for across generations. The more wealth and generosity you bring to the table, the more access and leeway you receive in return.

5/5 Stars - The Best Decision We Ever Made…read more Before we found Grace Lutheran, we had a really hard time finding good, consistent care for our son. Even when we did find something promising, frequent staff turnover or class transitions would downgrade an average situation to a below-average one. I can't tell you how many times my son would cry during drop-off and pick-up. He also came home with scratches and bites almost daily--understandable for two-year-olds, but it was excessive. The final straw came when he moved up to a new class and the care quality dropped again. That's when I reached out to friends for advice. Two friends highly recommended Grace--one who had since moved out of state and another who still sends her son there. She told me it was the best move they ever made. Funny enough, my husband also attended Grace in 4th grade and always had amazing things to say every time we drove by. We scheduled a tour and instantly felt like we had found the right place. We moved our son to Grace when he was two. He's now four, and we also started our daughter there this past September when she turned two. It's truly the best decision we've ever made. Neither of our kids has ever cried at drop-off or pick-up. In fact, it's the complete opposite--my son runs into class, thrilled to start his day, and my daughter leaps out of my arms without even saying goodbye. They've never come home with a scratch or bite. Grace is special. It's not just a school--it's a community. The teachers genuinely care about the children and are passionate about early education. My son's preschool teacher has gone above and beyond to prepare him for kindergarten a year ahead of time, using creative and engaging learning activities that not only meet curriculum goals but also support the whole child--nurturing their creativity and emotional development. I truly cannot express how much we appreciate this school. Grace Lutheran is a gift, and we are so grateful to be part of it.

Why we choose American Heritage…read more To be completely honest it was for the all day Kindergarten. For a working mom, having all day Kindergarten was a lifesaver. My youngest started school, and a week later my 4th grader asked if she could go to AHSJ as well. A little background on D'Layne (4th grade when she started AHSJ), she had a heart condition. She had always gone to public school, but was falling in the cracks and falling behind. D'layne excelled at AHSJ in ways that I cannot explain. She loved math, science and history, but always struggled in spelling and reading. After her 4th grade year, she was excelling in ways that made me proud to watch her grow. It was the same with 5th grade, but towards the end of 5th grade her health started to change. The summer between her 5th and 6th grade years, D'layne had a major stroke. She spent the summer relearning to read, write, and to find her words. We also knew at that time that her heart was failing her, and she would have to be placed on the transplant list immediately. She spent the summer back and forth getting testing done and was placed on the transplant list on August 27th, 2018. 6 days after starting her 6th grade year... The day we got the call that D'Layne was getting her new heart, she was at school. That was the best place for her to be, the administration gave her hugs and kisses, the school stopped and prayed for my daughter. This is a family, not just a school. 6 days after her transplant, I had to make a call to her school, that she was not going to make it. Where her heart was perfect, her body had been shutting down. Our family, AHSJ, cried with us, cherished us, and supported us. It has not stopped. My angel was granted her Angel wings on September 26, 2018. On May 2, 2019 (7 months later) they performed the most amazing tribute to her at their dance performance and included my sweet 7 year old to honor her sister. So, all day Kindergarten brought us to AHSJ, but the family bond of every student, teacher, administrator is the reason we stay!!
