I lost brain function after coming to school here. They did not teach me math for an entire year, setting me back for many years to come.

I personally made some life long friends with other parents from this school and so did one of my daughters. I'm glad my kids and I had this experience. They had a lot of fun and learned some life lessons while attending. When I asked my kids what they learned overall from their experience there one said, "Who to hang out with and who NOT to hang out with." The other agreed. Well, that's a life lesson I didn't learn myself until just this past year and I had to move 700+ miles away to learn this. One thing that could make this school better is if they took the lesson my kids learned and applied it to their admissions policy. Many of the students there that I knew were amazing, intelligent children, but there were a few bad apples that belong in reform school, not a sudbury school. Also one of their staff members is too put it nicely; a horrible person. I do not know if she is still there, but I've heard many horrible things about how she yells and causes drama and acts atrocious. If you check this school out, do yourself a favor, ask if the problematic staff member is still there. If she's not, then you may have found an excellent choice for your child. I did like how my kids could put their lunch in the fridge and heat it up in the kitchen... That's not something most schools offer... Their judicial committee, although not always effective or fair, is a good thing, but could use improvement. Like if a child is written up for something more than twice their parent should be notified so the parent can annalize what is going on and help the child grow from the problem. I love and admire many things about this school, but it has some flaws.. Still, it could be one of the best choices for many children.

We moved here from the Bay Area and enrolled our child in this school for a year because of their…read morereputation for having above average academics for the Salt Lake valley. However, the bullying problem is OUT OF CONTROL and the teachers and faculty seem to foster this type of environment which is wild. They definitely do not cultivate a culture of treating others who are different from you with mutual respect and acceptance. It seems like they encourage in-groups and out-groups to form and if a student is not within the in-group then that child will face a tough time in school, while the teachers and faculty will dismiss that anything wrong is actually going on. If you care about your child's mental health, then STAY AWAY FROM CANYON RIM ACADEMY. Their academics are above average but it's not worth it.

We were fortunate enough to get into the school on their waiting list but are very happy we made the switch to CRA. If you walk down the halls during school you will see orderly classrooms and involved parents. No school is perfect, and the facilities could use some upgrading, but the staff is amazing, the teachers are happy and the kids are learning. The school also makes every effort to encourage thinking, problem solving and creative learning.

After pre-school her reading was impressive but one month into Kindergarten it has taken off! They do a lot of learning through songs and it's fun listening to our daughter sing some of them when she's playing in her room or just doing her own thing. The teachers have all been there a long time and are very good at their jobs. She has made a lot of friends and even though some of her pre-school pals didn't return for Kindergarten we've stayed in touch with them and the parents have been good to get to know as well. Others have made assertions about the security. As a parent with a child enrolled I will say that security at the campus is fine. Only an idiot would publish their security details online but having had my child there for going on two full years I am happy with what they do. Also the police station is literally across the street. Not near by, across the street.

And in this crazy world we are living in, I definitely don't feel safe sending my child here where anyone when a gun can walk in and shoot up the place. I even asked about this and their response was the police department is near by. Like that's going to deter crazy people. They refuse to secure their door. Other schools require you to be buzzed in. I'm not sure I will ever understand their reasoning as to not install a security door. This saddens me as I now have to send my child to a more safe school. I've heard other parents will be pulling their kids out as well. Please do better Challenger.

From pre admission and research process, to the intake, to our Weekly YES WEEKLY video family therapy calls to our several community visits to our parent teacher conferences to our letters and calls with our son. I am continuously impressed with the care compassion empathy and knowledge that everyone at Gateway posses. I thought wilderness therapy was incredibly impactful and beneficial , but I see the compounding impact of Gateway. My son, at 14 years old told me, after telling me that he loves it at Gateway, that wilderness broke him down to who he really was and Gateway is helping him build up to the person he wants to be. My son is loving school, now reading for fun he is incredibly engaged in his learning process. He has been inspired by his teachers. He self advocates and never complains. My friends are growing tired of my exclamation that every kid should have the opportunity to learn like this. I am frustrated that my other 2 children weren't able to benefit from the research driven learning process that Gateway employs in everything they do., down to the scheduling for each child. On top of this, Gateway makes the learning and therapy fun. Their outdoor education experience has taught my son life skills and and lessons that transfer to every part of adult life. I can not say enough good about this place, it's impact on me, our son and our family. They understand the family system needs help, and they get right to it. The therapists are amazing. I had looked at many other places for my son, I wanted something closer to where we live. Now, I would travel half way across the world to have this kind of care and impact. Thank you all at Gateway for what you are doing for us! We are incredibly grateful.
