My wife had this idea about converting a tiny bathroom upstairs into some kind of Minoan shower room. And so, we had that done--and nicely--at the cost of every penny we'd saved over the last 50 years. The only thing missing, of course, after all the tile work and plumbing and bronze fittings and all were in place... was an acceptable vent cover for the exhaust fan. She found an authentic design from ancient Crete which she thought would be nice, and I spent several weeks trying to find ANYONE who either would or could (hopefully both) cut that design out of a thin sheet of medal.
Called this guy--who spends his time welding replacement parts for dropped Harleys, and other monstrous vehicles designed to take a hit without too much damage, and SURPRIZINGLY, he says, bring me what you've got and I'll look at it. So, we drive on out there, and here's this serious welding shop with a big Nordic god kind of welder guy in there beating the hell out of a chuck of cold steel, and two growling dogs just hoping to get over the fence and see what us intruders might taste like.
We explain our stupid little project to him and he says he'll take a look at it.
He does not laugh in out faces. he does not spit and throw us out of his shop,
he says he'll take a look at it.
So, now my wife has the vent cover she has always wanted, hangin' in there in the Minoan whatever, and I feel compelled to recommend this guy to anyone who needs such work. He's good. He's kind and thoughtful and, though a bit frightening, he does great work. You need some weldin' done,
go see him. read more
