It's a good place to live. Pretty quite. Enjoyed the creek view from my balcony!

Auden Ithaca - Living room after renovations

Auden Ithaca

(12 reviews)

I am a former resident of Auden Apartments and officially vacated my unit in May 2025. According to…read morethe lease agreement, my security deposit was to be refunded promptly after I moved out and completed the move-out inspection. However, as of today--February 22, 2026--I have still not received my deposit. I have followed up with the relevant parties on multiple occasions and previously stated that if the refund was not received by February 20, 2026, I would have no choice but to pursue legal action to protect my rights. Recently, Auden provided email documentation indicating that a check had been issued. Although I have not yet received the actual payment, I have decided--based on this evidence--to temporarily hold off on initiating legal proceedings. That said, I hereby formally declare: if I do not receive the full deposit refund by early March 2026, I will immediately commence legal action, including but not limited to filing a claim in small claims court, and I reserve the right to seek all remedies available for breach of contract. I urge Auden to promptly investigate this matter and ensure the refund is successfully delivered to avoid further escalation. -- A former tenant who expects good faith and contractual compliance February 22, 2026

This is my second year in an Ithaca Renting owned complex. There have been multiple fires in the…read morecomplex (yes, rooms actually caught fire). One of which displaced half of all tenants in the building, and they only got partial rent refunds for that period of displacement the next semester. The elevator in my complex is down multiple times a month, sometimes multiple times a week. After my first year, they raised rent at least a few hundred dollars, for the same room I'm currently in. They ask you to confirm whether you will renew your lease within a month of moving in. If you don't, they'll start doing tours any point after. You have to wait days to get your packages if the concierge is not here or the front desk is closed some days (which happens often), and no one else can retrieve it for you. You pay three months rent in advance, in quarterly installments. Parking spaces cost up to $3k for the year. If you lose your key over the weekend and are locked out without a residence, they don't consider it an emergency. They will charge up to nearly $200 in fees to replace it and let you back in over the weekend. The fitness center can barely fit two to three people. Most of the stovetop burners don't work, and I've met many people in this complex with the same issue. One time the electricity in the entire complex went out for the day/overnight, this included heating and hot water, and all my groceries were ruined. Raise any of these concerns with them and they will be sassy!

The apartments are OK, but on the expensive side. My review is based solely on the company and…read moretheir customer service. They will screw you over six ways to Sunday on made-up fees and become hostile when they don't need your money. Kiss your deposit goodbye - they will conveniently forget the move-in inspection you submit, and invite you to go to small claims court to get it back. Ithaca small claims court is backlogged for months, filing is pretty expensive, and IRC has good relations with them. Small-town regulatory capture at its finest.

Things that I loved about my 1 bedroom apartment included the very large windows, bathroom and kitchen and its proximity to The Commons. The property manager and leasing consultant, Kelsey and Carolyn, went out of their way to make me feel welcome and answered any questions I had very promptly. I'd still be there if I hadn't moved in with my boyfriend and highly recommend the building to anyone looking in the area.

There's a nice little park and a creek right behind the building so you still get to enjoy some nature even though you're in Downtown. The buses to campus/the airport and some of the charter buses (to and from NYC, Philly, etc.) all stop right in front of the building, which is amazing all year-round, but especially during the crazy cold winters of Ithaca. The building itself is really nice and well-maintained, spacious apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows, washer/dryers in every unit I believe, Central AC, and the walls are not too bad in terms of noise from neighbors. They're converting the out-of-business pharmacy on the first floor into a lounge and gym for the building this spring -- bummed I won't get to enjoy it as I'm leaving Ithaca in December! The management company itself has also been super helpful and responsive whenever I need something. They even have an online platform for maintenance/repair issues that the staff attends to pretty swiftly. If only they had buildings/companies like this in the city...

The first manager I dealt with was actually rather civil and cheerful, but after that, it was all downhill. In truth, the place harbors and employs lots of obviously poor character individuals, to put it mildly. I finally had to deal with the Regional Manager, who was (I'm not making this up) was clearly directing his lawncare staff to harass me, it was insane, they ARE insane. I get that many people are likely in any reality criminally insane, but that doesn't justify lying to me about returning my security deposit and John F. Kennedy, who I've learned is no longer with Salomon Brothers, and was the Director of Operations regarding returning my Security Deposit in Full. I swept out my apartment and left it immaculate. So, one of my reviews on another website I posted, I can't remember which, had a reply from Salomon Organization, the real estate firm that owns the 6 Ithaca apt complexes in Ithaca, Gaslight Village being one of them. They asked me to contact them, I did so 2 days ago via the email they left for me to speak to me about my concerns and Security Deposit. That was last Saturday, today is Monday at 1:39 PM, and I've not heard anything back. I can't find which website that review was on, but I trusted them to get back to me.

Basically there's an AC in the laundry room downstairs and it starts up 6-7 AM in the morning and is extremely loud. Unless you like having your REM sleep interrupted everyday. I suggest you stay away. It took them over 2 months to finally tell me they can't fix it, and they refuse to do anything about it. If I knew the AC can't be fixed, I would look for a different place immediately. Next, whenever I call the manager and leave a voice message or leave a message to the staff there, she never calls back. I have to keep calling in until she eventually gets on the phone and answers it herself. Hard to reach and impossible to talk to. I left at least 10 repair requests. 1 our of the 10 requests are completed. The others I had to fix the stuff myself, or just try to mitigate. The only cabinet door that they fixed took them a month to send someone over. What a joke. The most important thing is the utilities. The tenants in the apartment use utilities like nobody's business. If you use minimal utilities, then you will be forced to pay for other prople's wasteful behaviors. I have to spend 3 times as much utilities as I had when I was renting in CA. Stay away from this place as far as possible. It's terrible.
