    "Drinking" spring

What an amazing time. You have to make a reservation through the Omni Homestead, as they manage and run the Pools, and it's so worth it. For your reservation you'd get 50 minutes of soaking time, a private changing booth for just you/you and your group, a pool noodle, and a towel. The people are really professional, they keep the sound down so you can enjoy your soak (for the adult only soaks anyways) The water feels amazing, I slept so well the night of my soak it was delightful.

Warm Springs Pools in West Virginia contain around 15 different minerals in their natural spring water, which are believed to have therapeutic benefits for those who bathe in them! These include magnesium sulfate, iron, silica, boron, barium, manganese, and lithium " This is my second time here and it's all worth it coming back. My muscle soreness went away, my skin feels smooth and hair feels soft.

I came here for my birthday back in April and had an absolute blast. We were a group of 10 so I booked online in advance. I highly suggest booking online ahead of time because it can get busy on weekends. Their online portal is a bit frustrating because adding people to my reservation was weird, but it worked out in the end. You can choose between mixed adult only swim and mixed family swim. Since none of us have children we opted for the adult only option. We ended up in the "men's" bath house for the adult only swim. In the past, it was divided by gender. Now it is divided by family or adult only. When we arrived, there was free parking out front. We went into the main space and checked in/paid for our swim. It costs $30 for an hour in the warm springs. We registered for the noon time. We came around 11:45am. This was perfect because we were there in time for the history and explanation. They give you a towel and you're welcome to a pool noodle if you'd like. I believe you are required to wear a swimsuit. There are small cloth covered changing rooms around the adult only pool if you don't want to stay in your swim suit. And there was a gender neutral single bathroom in the main house and our bathhouse. It's a bit narrow walking around the pool itself. There were a few stairs down to the main part. The water is pretty deep so a pool noodle is a good idea. I loved the open skylight above us. This was a gorgeous place. I'm blanking on the name, but there was a mini natural water jet in another room. So two people took turns at a time checking this out. I adored the outside gap in that room because you could see down a little creek and around the grounds from there. This was such a special experience. An hour was the perfect time for this. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Making reservations and getting there are the biggest challenges but worth it. The Warm Springs Pools used to be known for many years as "Jefferson Pools", named for Thomas Jefferson, America's 3rd president and all around bon vivant. However, that wasn't the original name. The very first name was Warm Springs Pools, so, it's now come full circle. The return to the original name was recently done, in 2022, after a $4M renovation. This is the spot that Thomas Jefferson and his friends, including Benjamin Franklin, used to visit for healing of physical ailments and rest. I think Jefferson would find the improvements welcome. The Warm Springs Pools are on public land, and there are 2 of them. Mother Nature made these pools, not humans. Managed by Omni Homestead Resort, one needn't be a guest at the resort to use the pools. Not a lot of folks understand this, kind of a travel secret. Reservations must be made through Omni. It's not possible to just show up and expect to get in. I suggest calling the resort and asking for the pools' telephone number. The pools aren't at Omni Homestead Resort itself (located in Hot Springs, VA) rather found in the town of Warm Springs, VA (down the road a piece). Except for the initial telephone call to make contact, I did all my communicating via email with the Warm Springs Pools' staff to confirm my reservation, etc. This isn't a place where laps can be done. These are restorative, soaking pools. Light swimming and floating are the ways to "take the waters". The name of the place is quite accurate--these are indeed 2 fairly warm spring pools (98 degrees F) filled with natural mineral water that stays at a consistent temperature no matter what's going on with the weather. The pools are always being fed and emptied with fresh water 24/7 but the process is subtle, a bit imperceptible. The soaking session is 1 hour. There's an orientation of about 10 minutes for safety instructions and bathhouse protocols prior to entry. As mentioned, there are 2 pools, but the experience can only occur in 1 pool--can't go from pool to pool. I did feel relaxed afterward; had a nice sense of well-being.

The square building is the reception area. This is where you check in before your soak. There's a small indoor waiting area and bathrooms.

Warm Springs, VA - The rustic Warm Springs soaking pools are located right off a country road. They are easily recognizable by the white round barn like structures. I stayed at the Omni Homestead so a shuttle bus dropped me off here. One does not need to be a hotel guest to soak here but one does need to call the hotel to arrange a soak as they manage the property. A one hour soak is $30. Once you check in you proceed to the soaking pool. Did I mention it's rustic? It's essentially like being in a big round barn with small changing cubicles. You exit the cubicle and step down into the pool. It smells a bit sulfur-y. But it's nice and warm. The attendant offers a pool noodle for floating noting the thicker ones are definitely superior. After that you are asked to float quietly with no splashing. Everyone complied and the experience was so relaxing almost fell asleep. The attendant returns to give a 10 minute warning though there is a clock too. Additionally the attendant prepares a plastic bag for your swimsuit and gives it a quick spin to dry it too. That was top notch and I really appreciated not having to haul a wet drippy swimsuit. I left feeling very relaxed and my skin was quite soft. It was recommended to NOT shower or bathe for 4 hours after the soak to "let the water do its magic." I slept great that night and if that is Warm Springs magic I will take it.

Very relaxing. Cool to float in the same waters as Thos. Jefferson. Polite service. Beautiful area

Lovely historic experience. Enjoyed seeing the men's and women's bath houses and hearing about their history. The mineral soak was very relaxing.

Such a special experience at the Warm Springs Pools that recently reopened after a historically thoughtful $4M rehabilitation by The Omni Homestead Resort, Va. The gender-specific bathhouses and reception building were built in the 1870s-90's. Today, both the Gentleman's and Ladies' bathhouses are co-ed, but shift to men's and women's separate clothing-optional sessions a few hours each day. What a neat thing having the open ocular in the dome, where misty rain created a cool contrast to the bubbling 98 degree, crystal clear blue water. They provide towels, pool noodles for floating, and there is very little algae because more than a million gallons of water stream through the pools each day. They also display the pulley system where FDR came to take the waters. #lifeisgood #attheomni

A wonderful step back in time ...a tremendously serene experience. Floating about in the warm not hot mineral infused waters is something we ALL need right now.

It was definitely a neat experience....but an odd one. We did the co-ed soak at the end of the day. We didn't realize that the entire 50 min soak...you couldn't make a noise. I know most people go there to relax, but it was kind of ridiculous to get lectured about being silent for 50 minutes. Any time someone coughed or made a noise with their pool noodle- it was magnified in the silence. It was weird haha. We just didn't know to expect that. Otherwise it was a cool experience. Would only do it once. The check in lady was kind of abrasive and mean to the girl she was training. And they wouldn't allow us to take any pictures. Even if only pointed at one person clearly in the frame- they said no pictures. And even once everyone was changing- we were told no pictures and ushered out. Pretty disappointing.

When we checked in, the young receptionist gave us the details and made a displeased fave when she said which house we were assigned to - the Jail House. The Jail House ended up being fine but I didn't like the room. First off, the buildings aren't labeled and it's not clear where the front door is located which is incredibly annoying. Second, there is a big chandelier above the bed - so close that you can touch it with your hand and tall people can hit it. I was worried that it would fall right on our torsos.. Third, the sheets had some stains on them. Fourth, you can hear people entering and exiting the house. And they can hear you so you cant even speak in a normal tone. Finally, the place appears clean from a distance but has a lot of cracks where bugs can come from. The only thing it had going for it was that the bathroom was modern. What really frustrated me was that when we checked in the receptionist gave us all the information about dinner time and location but didn't tell us they were all booked up that evening. We checked in at 3 and dinner time was at 5. We waited for dinner service to start and went down to the restaurant on site only to be told that there was no availability. And of course there are limited establishments in the area so we ate at a dingy place nearby. The hotel restaurant had plenty of seats...we saw when we returned and before we left. Never coming back here again.

Creamy, lots of mushrooms however it had a very heavy handed spice, I think it was fennel. It over powered the mushrooms. The bread, which we loved the last time was underbaked. Just very disappointing, after having such a rememberable experience from before. Not worth the money at all.I clearly left tons of food and the waitress did not question if anything was wrong. I even flipped the burnt crust of the salmon so she could see it.

There are ample staff, and everyone was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed everything we ate, from the quick serve breakfasts and sandwiches at Martha's cafe, to dinners at Woody's, the breakfast buffet, and the gala dinner. It was always easy to find something to eat or drink, with various levels of service/formality. The gym is well appointed, and we really enjoyed the outdoor pool and hot tub. The afternoon tea and cookies is very crowded, but fun. The evening movie was a fun activity, with popcorn and nice seating . One thing I really liked was the number of occupied public spaces. The lobby/foyer has live music in the evenings, occasional tea and coffee service, couches and fireplaces. The Christmas decorations were just gorgeous. We enjoyed walking around to see them all. We also really liked the vibes in the Presidential Lounge and had drinks there on several occasions, taking our time. We are not fancy people, and did find the hotel rather expensive, and definitely still felt nickeled and dimed at times. There is no included food/beverages, and only part of the complex is available/included in your cost. We were able to use part of the outdoor pool, and the indoor pool and fitness center. The mineral pools, onsite and off, are additional fees, as are all meals, most coffee, etc. Parking is not included, and is valet only. There are numerous daily activities, most of which are an additional charge. Many did look enjoyable, but we opted out of the $75 bourbon tasting and $75 yoga classes. When the Omni is on, they are ON, but, to my point above, once they start to miss, they just kind of shrug it off and the mistakes feel expensive. My date had bought me a massage, which came with a spa day pass, which is the only way to use the spa garden and on site springs. We didn't realize at first that I already had a day pass, so we went ahead and purchased one for him to enjoy the facilities as well. On our spa day, the hot water was out, which meant that a decent number of the indoor facilities were not enjoyable. There were no discounts or alternatives offered, just kind of - it's not working. We still had a very nice spa day, but would have enjoyed the indoor showers, and actually, showering off, in January, in cold water after using the mineral springs, was not fun. When we ordered room service, half of our order was forgotten, and again, we were presented with a brief apology and the full bill, even though it took an additional 20 minutes for the food to arrive and I had finished eating mine by then. The most stressful error was when the bell staff dropped the garment bag containing my black tie dress on the floor in the hall, and we found it there when we came back to the room! I was really upset about that, though we didn't call the desk as we were tired and I did have the dress in the end, but this could have ended quite differently. I will also say that the walls are PAPER thin. A rather loud family occupied the room next to us for part of our stay and we could hear EVERYTHING. The historic property is just lovely, and the service was really nice. If we were to return, we would likely stay for a shorter visit, but it was definitely worth a trip.

I didn't really feel like we fit in, since a lot of people there were dressed in polos and khakis and seemed a bit more on the wealthier side, while my friend and I were dressed very casual and relaxed for vacation. To me, this place doesn't really feel like a typical leisure stay. It's more of a place where you need an itinerary because there are a lot of activities, which is great, but many of them are on scheduled time slots. So if you wanted to sleep in and go do something later in the morning, like 10:45, you might miss out because a lot of things runs on specific times. Some of the activities also cost extra, so it's definitely important to do your research beforehand and understand exactly what you're booking. Personally, I don't think I would come back again just because it wasn't the right fit for me.
