There was a "Master Baker" club at my high school. Unfortunately this group of 17-year-old boys had slightly skewered intentions that were less than savory. Give it a good think, you'll get there...
Anyway...
The only thing that was less than savory here was forgetting to bag a pie. The sandwiches had freshly baked bread the size of bookends, the pastries were light, fluffy, and had that Goldilocks "just right" sweetness level. Oh! And I enjoyed my first go at a coronation chicken baguette, which I must say was impressive, even for a mayo-detester such as myself.
Added bonus -- I wasn't kicked out for being the obnoxious American who asked loads of loud silly questions, which is a role I certainly embodied today. "What's a BAP?" "Ewww, mayo is totally naaasty." "Coronation chicken? What are we celebrating? Crown King Chicken? Did Colonel Sanders get promoted?" "You do know Colonel Sanders...right? WHAT?!?!"
All in all, 4 bottled drinks, 3 sandwiches, 3 pastries, 1 bag of chips and 1 savory chicken and mushroom pie (that unfortunately was left behind) only set us back £17.50. Remind me: Why do we insist on living in central London again? read more
