We're very fond of fried fresh catfish. I wish I took a photo of our catfish from Ward's Seafood Market & Take-Out, Clearwater FL (Apr 2026). The fish was made with a very thin, light batter which is a good thing, adding a light crisp to this fresh sweet not-fishy-tasting fish. You could get it as a sandwich, but the dinner was 2 filets for maybe $2 more and enough to share for lunch with plenty of piping-hot fries. Delicious and generous! The shop is very well stocked with a large variety of fresh seafood. It was clean and did not smell of seafood past its prime. We bought clams, mussels, tuna, scallops. The gentleman who waited on us was knowledgeable and very friendly. The prices were about what I expected but after going back home and cooking an enormous amount of seafood , it was well worth it. Small place, 40min away from me. Called and they answered my questions before driving there. The place is clean, very well organized and the staff are extremely attentive. Was given time to browse and when I looked up they were there to help. I bought 2# of PEI mussels. These were not prepackaged like other places. These were hand picked, no dead ones at all. Asked about the sweetest shrimp and bought a pound of them. Great selection of seasonings to purchase. Girl at the register asked if I wanted ice for the mussels, and double bagged the order. Out of the 2# I bought I lost 4. Great tasting, plump quality mussels. The shrimp were amazing also. I will definitely drive the distance soon for more seafood. Good place for fresh seafood although it is not inexpensive. The service is very good and the people behind the counter are helpful. I bought fresh cod last week and was informed that the cod delivery was every Thursday so, good information for the next trip. I was disappointed after purchasing frozen crab. It had not been properly handled (possibly not even by Ward's) before being frozen. I won't buy it again. But their fresh seafood is better than any grocery store, for sure. read more

Best seafood selection in the area! I love the fact that one of the staff members stays with you for your entire order. They always have a huge selection of different sizes and types of shrimp. Ward's seafood is an incredible find in Largo, FL. If you're looking for fresh seafood or cooked, you can find it all at Ward's! We recently stopped at Ward's to pick up fried fish and chips. They have portion sizes for big eaters as well as small. The best deal is the Captain's Fish & Chips special. It comes with two meals comprising four fillets of Alaskan pollock served with french fries, lemon, tartar sauce, and coke slaw for $13.95. We then drove 15 minutes before eating, and it was delicious! Previously, we ordered grilled grouper sandwiches, and they were excellent as well! Ward's is everything a fresh seafood shop should be: It's packed with all types of seafood and cheerful people. Cases of seafood line the length of the shop. Though it's a couple miles up from the beach, it looks like it belongs on the docks. read more

This fish market is a hidden gem in the area. I was able to find sushi grade tuna to make poke bowls from home- this was difficult for me to find as grocery stores nearby do not have sushi grade fish. The service was quick and attentive. Will be returning to try other cuts of fresh fish. read more

Disappointed in the food, but the selection of seafood was excellent. I ordered the crab cakes dinner plate and it was 90% flavorless filler material (assumed bread crumbs) and $17.95 is lot to pay for a plate of bread crumbs! The side of coleslaw was fresh but equally lacking as was the tartar sauce. And the rice was ok but, as with everything else in here, it lacked flavor. Most of the staff very helpful except for the woman who assisted me. I was very disappointed as I drove from St. Pete to get some fresh clams. Never have I gotten take out and the fries were still crispy and delicious when I got home. Mind you I had a 35minute drive. The fish was crispy outside and the fish tasted fresh and was flaky.
