This island was very cool! The whole community has leased property what the sign says. There's some fun little restaurants and a lot of just really nice people all over the island. It's a great place to walk around and just enjoy yourself for a full day adventure seeing the entire island. I wasn't able to rent boats or two or rent motorcycles. I ended up coming to the island because I have five hours before my flight was leaving Toronto. I was there on business. I was very lucky to have chosen to take a ferry to the island. My hotel is three blocks away. 100% recommended. Go exclamation!

Took the ferry across and wandered around the lake. Nice old wood houses were interesting to see. Nice walk for sure and great view of the city.

We got to the ferry terminal around 2:00 pm on a summer Sunday and the line was huge. It wrapped around twice. But the line kept moving, and we had our tickets after 22 minutes, so it wasn't too bad. Still, note to self: BUY TICKETS AHEAD OF TIME next time and skip the line. Inside the terminal, the line for Ward's Island was MUCH shorter than for the other two ferries, and we walked in just as it was boarding. We only got to explore the eastern half of the islands, but I would definitely pick Ward again over Centre Island. I wanted to explore the neighborhoods on Ward and Algonquin, and that was very interesting. What's great is that there are no cars on the islands, only bicycles and lots of quadricycles. There are a couple beaches, which would have been nice had I brought a bathing suit. On weekdays, I bet they are nice and empty. Also, if you're into frolf, there's like a whole 18 hole frolf course here. First time I've ever seen that. They've got signs everywhere warning you watch out for the frolf, as if it's so dangerous you could get decapitated.

***Ward's Island in Toronto is one of those middle of North America spots that make this part of the continent feel less landlocked because of the Great Lakes; Ward's Island sits right on the massive and beautiful Lake Ontario and there are some paths for cycling as well as a waterfront boardwalk for walking (though there are not many things to do like a traditional boardwalk); there is even a beach; you will also find great views of Downtown Toronto, interesting small houses, a hidden cafe, and lots of greenery here*** You will not need a vehicle since the island is so small; it connects to the other islands and ferry stops here; the ferry or water taxis are a fun and quick way to get to this island from mainland Toronto.

Just a quick bike ride (or long walk) from Centre Island, Ward's Island is the antidote to the hectic commercial vibe and the touristic milling of its isle neighbor. Instead of amusement parks and fast food, you get kid-free serenity and voyeuristic delight while browsing the eclectic houses on Ward's. Some are cute and cheerful, some are whimsical and kooky, and a couple look like Boo Radley shacked up there. With its wildflowers, butterflies, and friendly squirrels that come right up to you, Ward's Island feels almost enchanted; like if I lived there birds would sing to me as they helped hang my laundry on the clothesline. That is, till Boo Radley comes 'round with those scissors...

Could this be one of Toronto's best kept places? We went here on Father's Day aboard a completely empty boat. At first sight, the place may seem a bit unkempt. But as you walk around the Island, you see nice little cottages very close to the water, and the place is completely peaceful and free of crowds. It's like an Oasis from the big bustling city. A short boat trip, and you feel like you're cottage country, minus all the mosquitoes and black flies. You can enjoy a nice walk on the beach, or a long leisurely picturesque stroll to Center Island. Next time, we'll bring a picnic basket!

this is the best section of the toronto islands, bar none. being serviced by the ferry 365 days of the year, this is the best part to start at with the island, when you get off the boat, to the left is the grouping of residential housing, which is not only tucked away, but also is home to some very small and quiet beaches that have the perfect view of the toronto skyline, on the southeastern end is a long boardwalk that has a beach on both ends, with stunning views as well. bring a camera and some comfy shoes :)

A less visitor-dense place. There are still quite a lot of people on the beach, but definitely fewer people on the ferry that goes back to Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (I think this is what it's called). I hope there are places that sell food there.

We decided to visit Ward's Island in the winter and it worked out great. We had an amazing view of the city and yes it was chilly but not terrible. We really enjoyed the ferry ride to the island- very smooth ride with sensational skyline views.

Boarding ferry back to Toronto. Ferry price is currently $7.50 & includes a return!

What a place!! I've lived in Toronto for three years and this is the first time visiting Wards Island. I honestly kick myself for not visiting sooner!!! It's a beautiful place where you can get away from the city & admire the Toronto skyline from a distance. Amazing quant houses, picturesque walkways and boats & yachts galore!! As well as going to Niagara every year during the summer, I'll add Wards Island to my list!!!

Is this island a hidden gem? Possibly cause it's wasn't packed the two times I went. The last time I went we played frolf (frisbee golf) on an actual frolf course! Ya right? Lol if you haven't been yet please mark your calendars and make sure to go visit it with a bunch of friends. It will make you feel like you are at the cottage and not in TO. Amazing only smiles when I think of it.

My favorite! Walking from Hanlans Point to Wards Island. And then lunch or coffee at the island cafe.

The trees line a picturesque stretch of the park, and when they're in full bloom, it feels like the city collectively remembers to stop and breathe for a second. Pink petals, sunshine (if you're lucky), and everyone suddenly becoming a photographer. Of course, you're sharing the moment with about half of Toronto. Between the throngs of selfie-takers, dogs in sweaters, and folks sprawled out pretending it's warmer than it is, there's plenty of entertainment even if the blooms are a bit past their prime. My advice? Don't expect Kyoto-level serenity. But do expect a lively, local take on hanami--Toronto-style. Grab a coffee, people-watch, and enjoy the fleeting beauty before the blossoms (and your patience) are gone for another year.
