We did the Historic Plaza Food Sip and Savor Tour. It included 4 stops; 2 with food and alcoholic beverage taste, 1 stop with champagne flight, and 1 stop with churro dessert. Probably the #1 advice I give fellow travelers is to do a food tour soon after arriving in a new city. You get some history, get a basic understanding of the lay of the land, and best of all... you get to eat. On our particular day we ate Italian, ice cream, tamales, amazing pozole and (I think) El Salvadoran food. Everything was delicious and in a couple of cases, a first for me! A huge shout out to our guide - I think her name was Lauren. She did an amazing job and went the extra mile to make sure that we returned to our hotel okay (we were having shuttle issues). She was funny, caring and informative. Besides that, also a chef so she knew what she was talking about! The tour was about $200 per person before tip. Don't forget to tip! We had a great experience on our Sip and Savor Tour with Elizabeth Schroder. She was very well informed about the history of Santa Fe. She was very passionate about the true story of Santa Fe. We attended Cheesemongers and had a tasting of three different cheeses with pairings. There was a 10% discount if you wanted to purchase some to go. We then attended El Callejon Tacos and had a tasting of three different gourmet street tacos with beer. The home made salsa was great. We returned later on our trip to have more tacos. For a third stop, we went to Noisy Water wine tasting room. There, we had four different wine tastings starting with a white, two reds, and finally a white wine infused with green chile. The green chile was a hit or miss in our group. For our final stop, we went to a beer and wine tasting at Hops and Fire. We got to taste some local beers as well as some tasty appetizers. We finished with their home made ice cream. We came back here again. Thanks Elizabeth for the great experience. I would highly recommend it. read more

Great walking tour with Lauren. We visited three restaurants and the chefs came out to talk to us at each place -- which I would not assume is to be expected in every case -- and Lauren was personable, knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the explanations and the venues, from the extra-spiffy hip joint to the interior restaurant in its 3rd generation of operation with marvelous art on the walls that bought a lot of splendid food over the years. Wow! We took both the Railyard tour and the sip and savor downtown tour with Lauren this past week. I book foodie tours in every city we visit, and they have all been great, but these tours surpassed all of them by a mile. Lauren is a chef, and knows the restaurants, owners, chefs, wait staff, etc., and they go above and beyond for her tour group's experience. The food is plentiful, but carefully crafted to hit all the tight notes in the Santa Fe food scene. Lauren complements the food perfectly with her knowledge, quick wit and enthusiasm. Just got back from our sip and savor tour guided by Elizabeth. Wonderful time! Enjoyed hearing about the history of the area, people and buildings while also enjoying some delicious tastings. I especially enjoyed that the owners / chefs / managers of the stops we went to took the time to explain the history of their stores, what we were sampling and really took pride in their product. Compared to other food tours where the tour guide handles all of the introductions to what you are tasting, I thought this made what we were experiencing much more interesting and even personal. We booked a private tour for a group of 15 through Wander New Mexico. Elizabeth arranged a walking foodie tour on a Friday evening during the Wine and Chile Festival, which is no easy feat! Elizabeth was also our guide, and she gave us the perfect amount of history and fun facts on the way to our two spots. We enjoyed drinks and tamales at Tres Colores, but better yet were able to learn from the owners some interesting facts about their restaurant. Our second stop was a wine tasting with appetizers at Herve, which was lovely. Our group was made up of a subset of conference attendees who didn't know each other well, but by the end of the tour had bonded over good food, drinks and conversation. My girlfriend and I went on the "Off the Beaten Path" tour. We LOVED it. We went to two restaurants and a distillery, and we even got to go back in the kitchen at Joseph's and hear the chef talk about the challenges of cooking for so many people as well as how to use sous vide. Even though it was cold out, Joe had hand warmers for everyone, and all the stops were close together. Joe and Alison were exceptional hosts, and they arranged for the restaurant/distillery owners and bartenders to lavish us with their attention, so we got a sneak peak at all the behind-the-scenes action at each establishment. The tour was a great balance of rich history and delicious food and, being an architecture buff myself, I particularly enjoyed learning about the Santa Fe architecture revival that's starting in the Railyard district. Amazing day with Joe and fellow "Wander" buddies! We loved Joe's charming personality and knowledge about the rail yard district. Starting at La Choza we learned the difference between New Mexican pozole and Mexican version. We had excellent margaritas. After that a wine tasting event with Vivac wines. Fantastic wine! My favorite stop was Joseph's, an amazing restaurant. His offering was a gorgeous plate of ceviche and a perfect rose wine pairing. We loved his exciting presentation and kitchen tour.
