The Pit has now become a long-time fixture in Kill Devil Hills. I remember when it opened. In the…read morebeginning it was just a club that would let kids under 21 so they had somewhere to go listen to bands, play games, and hang out. Then they expanded to the surf shop and built a separate building. Now they have Boardriders Grill. In the main building you'll find the "hang out" part. Downstairs on the ground floor is a stage and venue for bands and parties. On the main floor, there's a dining area and small bar. On the top floor there's some video games, pool, and chairs to chill in. Sunday is Euronight with electro/house music spinning and Thursday is Mug Night. At The Pit out back the surf shop keeps expanding so I can't even keep track of all that's offered. I will tell you that they keep up to date with all the rad stuff locals and surfers need to keep up with the island image and life. They offer board rentals, surf lessons, lots of cool stuff. One thing that's really cool is that they're home to "Skim City" which is a sick skimboarding brand. My brother used to be sponsored by them and my family was never short on encounteres with the Skim Crew! A boardsport lifestyle comes as naturally as going barefoot on the beach and The Pit acknowledges that. The Boardriders Grill has come a long way to have a following of its own. $1 tacos from 4 to 6pm and all day on Tuesdays always draw a crowd! I don't know how else to describe it but how they do -- a surf-inspired menu. My Mom loves their fish tacos and my friends and I can barely handle their burritos! Spice and gargantuan size with fresh fixin's. I love that you can eat inside or out on the front deck and the service is friendly and fast. You never know you'll run into at The Pit. Steve Pauls and Ben Sproul have done a pretty good job at keeping it up for locals and visitors alike though. Stop in and hang out...you'll have a good time.

This was all done in about 5-8 min. The charge was like almost nothing. ( I paid more for gas to get there than the repair). I made sure to tip. They get my business from now on. Thanks

BLUF: Supplies for the serious waterman (or water women) and a few gifts too…read more As a commercial crabber my father is a long time customer of Mike Keller's aka Keller Fishing Supply Co. He loves the store and I can see why. It is well organized with carefully curated gear for those serious about their craft and the employees are friendly too. They also sell some gifty items. I finally made it to Mike Keller's myself, with my father in tow, and while we didn't need any boots, gloves, nets, hooks, or the such on this visit, I still enjoyed looking and we left with a few tshirts. My family is always happy to support this local small business. I also had my Mom with me this visit and we had fun looking at the gifts including crewel embroidered pillows with blue crabs and waiters on them and earrings from Lilliput Tiny Things (famously hand made in New Orleans).
