Update 2015. This place has closed. As was inevitable…read more We have been here many times. Well OK, twice. But before it was Beaufort House it was an ice cream and scone place and before that something else. It has never been as funny as this though. There is a suit of armour in the dining room and the owner dresses in scarlet velvet evening dresses with a purple jacket and full 'to the nines' gear. The schnitzels don't fit on the plates, and the plates are huge. The food actually covers the entire plate so you can't tell there is actually a plate there until you make some headway. There is also trout and other Austrian specials like goulash soup and the like. An Austrian restaurant in Adelong, where there are only two pubs but one is still called 'The Middle'. Adelong is struggling but the Beaufort is still going strong- god knows how.

We went as a group of about 15 people. We rang ahead, made a booking, and turned up on time. The bistro was fairly busy so they let us sit in one of their function rooms, which was nice. Unfortunately things got disorganised after that. Wrong orders brought to our tables, orders substituted (they were sold out of several items) without being told before it was served, steaks burnt to a crisp on one side, etc. For a large group you don't expect all the food to come out at once but the time between the first of us finishing and the last of us starting was well over an hour which is pushing things. To their credit they refunded several of the blundered meals. The food was of very average quality. Not inedible but nothing to make you want to come back. Give the chicken parma a miss and just hope whoever does your particular steak knows what they're doing. If you're vegetarian make sure to politely confirm that what you're ordering is available.
