My son and I both had their cheesesteak with peppers. Not your typical Philly cheesesteak (rib eye) but did not matter because their choice of meat cheese peppers and roll were phenomenal. Highly recommend if you're in Asbury Park area. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant had a great vibe. THE OL' STEAK SANG-GWEECH Our Cheesesteak Sandwich. The burgers are great, and the last time I tried their cheesesteak which normally comes with cherry peppers and red onion. I asked for it plain, and it was super delicious. Portion sizes are solid, and prices are reasonable considering the area. We actually ended up here because Pasta Volo -- one of my favorite spots in Asbury Park -- was closed that day. The Speakeatery made for a great backup. You order at the counter, and the service is decent. The space is long and narrow with some stool seating up front and more table and chair seating towards the back. The grill and kitchen are situated in the middle of the restaurant. The place only has indoor seating, which fits the speakeasy vibe nicely. Overall, I'd recommend The Speakeatery for breakfast or lunch when you're visiting Asbury Park for the day.

Yes, it is an experience - from the atmosphere to the selection of beautiful dinner wear to the each element of plating to the awakening of each part of your palate to the personable owners who actually came to the table and talked to us. Even though they only opened at 5pm, there was already a lively crowd at 5:30. We started with Polpettine Di Pollo, organic chicken meatballs with bell pepper, garlic, spinach and pomodoro. The order was large and delicious! Piping hot as well. Carol chose the Pappardelle al Telephono Nostro, house made pasta, mozzarella, tomato-cream sauce and fresh basil. this was a large order and my wife loved it. I chose the Tortelloni alla Bergamasca, veal tortellini with black truffle and rosemary veal reduction. Excellent as well! Dessert consisted. of a shared Pistachio Creme Brulee that was perfect. The restaurant is BYOB and I recommend making a reservation. Our server, Khrystna, was superb

We enjoy some good olive oil and saw that they offered tastings so we went in. Bread is spread out at various stations so you can sample the oils and vinegars. The owner was very kind and even suggested some various mixtures. They were really good! We must've stayed 30 minutes, which was a lot longer than we expected. There's just so many options to explore and the owner is so personable. We bought one bottle. Boy did we regret this. We ran out pretty quickly! When we visited a second time this year we bought a couple. Every few nights my husband and I light a candle, chop some bread, mozzarella, dolmas and whip out these tasty oils. Chipotle, being one of them, was a nice balance of just the right amount of spice. Upon our visit, they were actually out of prepackaged chipotle oil so the owner filled a fresh new bottle for us and sealed it right on the spot. Very accommodating! We inquired about online orders (which may be a possibility) just because we wanted the option to get more when we run out. I can't wait to visit again in 2018 :)

Many people enjoy the interaction that we engage in at the post office, the gas station, the barber shop, the butcher, the fruit store, etc. Here there seems to be a very definite history of the great staff members moving on, sometimes with little or no notice, and it has impacted the comfort level for me, and for many of the people who also frequented the store. The product has been good, at times excellent, but the overall experience has been greatly diminished by some real nice people who were employed there leaving. I don't feel the same joy supporting a business that seems to have a pattern of upsetting what appears to be excellent employees, and this is by no means a negative statement on the new people who come in to replace the one's who leave. I sure the new ones are very nice too. It all just creates this sense of sadness and negativity about and towards the ownership and overall establishment. I guess in life some of us reach an age, or a point, where what we put in our body has to do with more than the food itself. It connects to the vibe, the humanity factor, the trust, etc. I have stopped going to Local 130 after the last person left, almost without exception. And I am a customer who was there a minimum of once a week for several years.
