Dr Walsh is an exceptional doctor. My husband had a surgical procedure with him at O'Connor Hospital that went very smoothly. A few days after the operation after we got back home, my husband had a concern at midnight and Dr. Walsh returned our call within a few minutes. A few weeks after the surgery, my husband ended up back in the hospital due to a separate issue and Dr. Walsh continued to come by to check on him. He relayed with other doctors to ensure top care for my husband. After spending nearly a week in the hospital on two separate occasions in the past month, we've heard so many good things about Dr. Walsh from lots of the staff at O'Connor Hospital and at his private office. He has earned the respect of everyone around him. He's clearly someone who's working in his gifted area and his passion. He has been an angel to both of us as my husband went through a few different health issues. From the first time we met Dr Walsh, and in every subsequent conversation both in and out of the hospital, he told us what was going on and took plenty of time to calm our fears and answer all our questions. Dr. Walsh was extremely calm and professional. November 2013, he was referred to me after i had a colonoscopy. My Appendix was missing and I did not have it removed. I had a CT scan and No appendix was found. Due to my health history he recommended surgery. He double checked my health history with thorough questioning. He speaks to you like a person. HE actually drew a pic of what the surgery might look like. And a small part of my colon would be removed for pathology. Turns out it was an extremely rare case - inverted appendix.So rare, that it was only the second time Dr Walsh had encountered one. It was a Learning experience for Dr. Walsh. He was in the process of selling his practice to the Daughter's of Charity(part of O'Connor Hospital) at the end of 2013. O'Connor is for sale now. Not sure if that has any bearing on Dr. Walsh's practice. I hope it doesn't. Highly recommended. read more

This review is about Dr. Hugh's billing policy. He was the assistant surgeon. His office insist on "balance billing" even though his service was paid as a out-of-service network provider by our insurance. I've tried multiple times to negotiate an alternate resolution. Nope, the office lady is curt and refuses any concern. Basically, I get the "go tell your insurance to pay more" or go tell your primary surgeon who enlisted Dr. Hugh. My wife's surgery was successful. So I'd say Dr. Hugh's medical skill is good. But, I rate his financial practice a big "zero." read more

AMAZING Doctor, that's all we can say. Takes the time to explain every last detail to you, an awesome bedside manner, and truly cares about you as a human being. He removed my thyroid after I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Dr. Walsh removed my gallbladder, and was darn good at it. I was referred to Dr. Walsh by a friend, with warm recommendation. I was 2 getting over a gallstones attack that put me in a hospital for 2 nights while on a business trip in Stockholm. With the assistance of his receptionist, Veronica, I got an appointment within 4 days of my return to the USA, with ultrasound to precede it. Looking at my ultrasound, and explaining every shade and shadow, Dr. Walsh continued into a detailed description of the operation, step by step, including the safety measures he practices. By Friday, not even a week since my return, I was under the knife. Dr. Walsh provided status to my friend who was waiting for my recovery, and did so to the complete satisfaction of one curious, concerned friend. On Saturday morning, Dr. Walsh was the first surgeon to visit the ward, and after a thorough inspection, discussing the operation and what's next, released me. By the time I was leaving the hospital, the woman I shared my room with, was still waiting for her surgeon to show up. The nurses confirmed that Dr. Walsh is usually the first to visit his patients the morning after. The anesthesiologist called that night to confirm that my "waking up" was trouble free. A week later, all my cuts are healing, no complications, and every day is easier than the previous one. All the Local Doctors refer Dr Hugh Walsh as the surgeon of choice. He is an Amazing Surgeon. Last year, he removed my gall bladder and found that my gall bladder was so distressed that it had formed an additional connection directly into the liver. Many surgeons may have missed this second connection given that it is not normal. Dr Walsh is exceptional. By being careful in the removal of my gall bladder and discovering this second connection, he was able to place a tube on the second connection into my liver and allow all the excess bile to flow into a plastic ball outside of my body. I had to empty this plastic ball periodically until the liver healed a week later. It was a surprising affect for me after the surgery. However, I am so happy that Dr Walsh caught my gall bladder's extra defect otherwise if the second connection was just cut and left open, it would have dumped excessive bile and blood into my body. I would have become extremely toxic and could have died. I am very thankful for everything that Dr Walsh did for me. He was a great surgeon and wonderful with how the billing of the surgery was handle. He is a Great Surgeon and a Wonderful Person. You must use Dr Hugh Walsh! He is the Best! read more

I completely agree with the other reviewer - Hugh is an incredible doctor. I had a lump show up in my elbo and it was starting to concern me. I went to me GP (who is also amazing) and he told me I should have it removed and biopsied. I asked him for a referral and he said, "Go see Hugh Walsh - if I had a lump in my arm, he's the guy I'd go see." That's a heck of an endorsement. And it was 100% accurate. Dr. Walsh gave me the time and attention that is missing from so many other doctor's practices. He performed the surgery very quickly and efficiently. He stitched me up very well - there is no scar! And he charged me an incredibly reasonable rate. All in all, I could not recommend him more. read more

My primary care physic an told me the day Dr. Walsh retires, he was going to retire as well. I asked several nurses who work in surgery at O'Connor Hospital who the best surgeon was. Each Nurse I talked to stated Hugh Walsh was the Best of the Best. 6 years ago, he operated on my daughter and had to tell us she had Hodgkin's. Today, she is fine and cancer free. In July I had colon cancer and Dr. Walsh was who I went to. He is caring and explains in terms you can understand what is going to happen and why. When he told me what needed to be done, he said, "if it were me, this is what I would do." That was all I needed to hear. He operated on me and I am cancer free! I had a major abdominal surgery by Dr. H.G. Walsh at O'Connor Hospital in 1986. A few months later I began having physical sensations that were very nauseating. I began losing pigmentation, I became incredibly sensitive to EMF (electromagnetic fields), and eventually lost my thyroid in 2006 with Hashimoto's Disease. It wasn't until 2009 that I found the reason for my suffering. I tested positive for emitting radio frequencies by the International Center Against Abuse of Covert Technologies (ICAACT) in Sacramento. The test was performed by their president, Jesse Beltran. I was told that I had been implanted with microchips and electrodes which allows for human tracking and an assortment of other capabilities. ICAACT informed me that this has been a major problem especially in the Silicon Valley. I was told that Stanford U. does military contracts that involves non-consensual human experimentation. Up until that time I had only one surgery...with Dr. Walsh. I did a background check of Dr. Walsh that showed he was a chief of surgery at a US Army hospital in Kentucky before O'Connor Hospital, acting assistant professor of surgery at Stanford U. Department of Surgery; Acting Instructor in Surgery Stanford U Dept. of Surgery; Stanford University Residency, General Surgery; Stanford U./UCSF Fellowship, Stanford U. Internship. My conclusion is that Dr. Walsh is a great surgeon, but I don't believe his intentions are in the patient's best interest. read more

I agree with Michael R. Dr. Walsh is a caring individual as well as a good doctor. When I asked a recommendation to my home doctor for my procedure. He highly recommended Dr. Walsh. At the time of the surgery, he answered all the questions I had and was very nice to my wife when I was recovering. Many doctors came to waiting relatives and explained how a patient was standing. Dr. Walsh sat down next to my wife and explained my situation in a very caring fashion. I am recovering nicely after 7 weeks. I highly recommend him! read more

Dr. Walsh performed an emergency appendectomy on me way back in 2003. I noticed the above reviews and wanted to post what a wonderful person and doctor he is. I was on a business trip in San Jose when I took ill and I was fortunate that Dr. Walsh was on call that night at O'Connor Hospital and performed my surgery. He explained the surgery to me in a simple way that I could understand and was at my bedside when I woke up after the surgery. I could not have been happier with the results of the surgery and the way he treated me. I made an appointment,waited three weeks , arrived 15 minutes early. Upon arrival I was told someone had canceled my appointment . Over two hours later I walked out without seeing the doctor. If he can't run his office , I don't want him operating on me. read more

Dr. Walsh was recommended to me when my gynecologist found a suspicious lump in my breast. It's been several years since I saw Dr. Walsh, but when I saw that he only had one good review, I had to add mine. Dr. Walsh was very caring and extremely sensitive to my fears and concerns over finding this lump. He spent as much time with me as I needed in the office, and didn't have his hand on the doorknob like many doctors do - I never felt rushed whatsoever. He did a needle biopsy in the office, and the results were "inconclusive" as to what was found. He left it completely up to me as far as whether I wanted to take a "wait and see" approach, or to have the section removed. As terrified as I was, I opted for an excision of the area, and although I felt that he wasn't as worried as I was, he didn't argue with me. The experience I had with Dr. Walsh was great - I'd recommend him to anyone wanting a doctor who cares! read more
