I have to agree with the two most recent reviews, Wolverhampton Train Station is awful, it is…read morelocated around a 5-10 minute walk to Wolverhampton city centre (shops, restaurants etc) and about a 15-20 minute walk to the Molineux Stadium. Trains from here are run by multiple providers such as Virgin Trains, Arriva Trains Wales, Cross Country and West Midlands Trains with most of the services going into Birmingham: International and/or New Street, and London. Services from here also run into the likes of Manchester, Liverpool, Crewe and Scotland, and once again local services to the likes of Walsall, Telford and Birmingham. The Train Station is actually quite-old fashioned, with very little facilities inside the station, even the departures board was far from helpful, it was too small and provided little to no information, luckily I had the Virgin Trains and National Rail apps to hand to help me find out information about my train delays and platform etc. The staff at the station in all seemed nice enough, but they only seemed to have extra staff on as it was a matchday, as Manchester City played Wolverhampton Wanderers on the day of my visit, which was the purpose for my day in Wolverhampton! The station is accessed through a footbridge between platform 1 and 2 and others, which means if you arrive in on Platform 2 then you have to literally walk down another Platform to get out, which is quite weird, and the lifts were slow and the footbridge area being more dirty than modern, that isn't too pleasant either. Overall, a really poor, basic and old-fashioned station with very few positives other than being the only train station to serve Wolverhampton, without including the West Midlands Metro of course (which depending on route would probably take slightly longer into Birmingham than Virgin Trains and co) - A one-star rating due to the fact the station is frankly an unhelpful mess.

Don't ask anyone for help because you surely won't get it. On New Years Day 2015 at 9am, the coffee shop was closed because of a robbery that took place. Did anyone bother to tell the 15 people waiting for them to open? Not until someone walked out & asked when would they open. WH Smith sign indicated they opened at 8am but the employee inside refused to open until 10am. And WHY are all walkways going to train station on an incline? With those awful bumps in the pavement? Makes it extremely difficult to roll your luggage up & through. ALSO....the info board for departures is not clear. I had tickets for a 9:37am train to Crewe. Crewe not listed anywhere. Apparently you have to guess which train is yours. Mine was to some other place not on my ticket & had I not asked a rude Virgin rep I would have missed my train. They do an awful job of announcing arriving & departing trains so don't expect to hear an announcement.

The driver wouldn't accept my husbands card payment for us both, and made us pay once for him and go back to cash point then pay again! What a rip off. He was extremely rude and I will not recommend nor use this service again. Never heard of such a thing. Go with another bus service one where you get treated with respect. Not recommended at all.

The 51 is the standard daily option including on Sundays, which offers regular services throughout the day. At peak hours, one can come every 5-7 minutes, typically taking 35-40 minutes traffic depending. The 51 runs during weekdays between 4:30am and midnight and is a usually efficient service providing no crimes or misdemeanours take place on the bus. It is definitely a bus of cultural experiences - weed smokers, preachers, drunks, smelly people - and for those who love that, go for it! ;). In all seriousness, the X51 is the faster cousin of the 51, often with higher more comfortable seating, quicker - cutting out the side routes around Birchfield and Perry Barr stopping less and being a more efficient option. The X51 runs Monday to Saturday from around 7am and the last bus leaves usually Walsall and Brum shortly after 7pm. If you live in Walsall, you are not spoilt by choice and options of getting to Brum and I would like to see a nightbus return to the 51 such as the 51N which did run once, to allow people to return home to Walsall throughout the night, especially Thursday through Saturday. The need for nightbuses is an issue though for many of the major bus routes into Brum.

I have to agree with the previous reviewers that one of the annoying things about Sandwell & Dudley…read morestation is that it's nowhere near Dudley! A more appropriate name would be Oldbury & West Bromwich as the station is a few minutes walk from the former and about 15 minutes pace to the latter (although I have got long legs). Even though I'd passed through the station hundreds of times, it wasn't until I moved to Oldbury that I realised where Oldbury was. Maybe the place would less of a ghost town if it's station wasn't named after somewhere a few miles away? The station itself is always clean and the waiting rooms have heaters that you can turn on yourself (although they don't do much good in my experience). The staff are friendly and helpful and the platforms are far too long for such an intemediary station. I think the station was maybe envisioned as some kind of way to put Dudley on the rail map. It failed and I can't help feeling it's taken Oldbury down in the process.

Lol I enjoyed this station...it was a nice welcome change from what I previously experienced...controlled chaos.

This train line is one of the busiest in the West Midlands. It stretches as far as Lichfield (Staffordshire) and goes through to Longbridge and Redditch calling at several main town stations such as Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, Aston and of course Birmingham New Street. So if you are a shopper this is the station to get your train from. The office here is manned part-time and mainly covers the peak time slots. The staff are friendly and willing to help and they keep the car parks and surrounding areas clean and tidy. There are shelters on the platforms so if the heavens open up you can keep dry until your train arrives. This station is located on the outskirts of Four Oaks and has a large pub/restaurant next to it called the Blake Barn Inn. There is a small convenience store just a few minutes up from the station and a few minutes after that you are lead out onto the main Lichfield Road.

A huge ticket office and car park boost the site and while there is a dingy underpass letting you switch platforms, it really is quite safe. Typical of the stations across the Sutton stretch of the line, the staff are particularly friendly. Despite the car park, it's not overly blessed as a viable park and ride option and over the years, residents have been increasingly complaining about commuters' ditched cars clogging up roads outside their homes. Do them a favour and drive to Four Oaks station (two stops along). That said, the location makes the activity tempting as it's just a short trip into Sutton Coldfield from here and, as the last stop within the northern end of the Birmingham boundary, also a short ride into Lichfield. If you've been using the station simply as a point to begin a rail journey, don't dismiss the idea of having a look around the estate on which it's based - the Blake Barn pub is nearby and scores not too badly with its outdoor seating and great meal deals.

Trains run every half hour during the week and on Saturday towards Snow Hill and Moor Street and take about 15 minutes. The three staff that work there are all pleasant and seem to have good relationships with regular commuters. I personally use this service at least twice a week and an off-peak return to town costs £2.20 (£3.30 peak). The small waiting room is clean and, crucially, is warm in winter time. The only problem is that it's locked when the station is unmanned. Other problems with the station are that trains rarely call there on Sundays and it's impossible to get to from Brum after about 6pm (during the week the last train leaves Snow Hill at 20 past 11). The 120 bus service runs past the station but the stops in both directions are nowhere near the station entrance which makes for poor integration. Finally, if you're approaching the station from the Tat Bank Road end, there is no way to enter the station without walking a fair way past the station building and having to walk back up the car park. Perhaps just a little more thought would make this fairly remote little station a bit more accessible?
