This place is amazing! I'm here for a wedding and it's beautiful, you wouldn't think we were in West Texas. This place actually reminds me of a place in Las Vegas called The Grove, another oasis that you wouldn't imagine you'd find. This is a one stop shop! Everything is taken care of for you and the food is wonderful! I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a venue to get married at. read more

History

Established in 2012.

Walnut Tree was started on a prayer and faith. We are 24 miles west of Plainview TX, 45 miles north west of Lubbock TX, 50 miles south west of Amarillo TX, 50 miles east of Portalas NM and 50 miles south east of Clovis NM

Meet the Business Owner: Robin Jacquie, Chuck Melissa H.

After many years of friendship Robin & Jacquie and Chuck & Melissa heard a call from the Lord to start this business and ministry. We all spent months praying about it, and finally decided to jump in feet first. So off we went. We moved in and repurposed several old buildings. Each of us play a unique and important roll in Walnut Tree. Our talents are very diverse and together we make a great team.

When we walked in the door I almost wanted to skip it, but I'm so glad we didn't. Outside there was someone chopping wood and smoking meat. The lady at the counter was so friendly and made sure we took some barbecue sauce with us. Whoa, Everything was so good! You can't go wrong here. This is a must try if you are in the Plainview area, you won't be disappointed.

Table on 10th

It may not be quite farm to table, but the food is fresh, made to order, and hands down the best quality within 20 miles. I've tried six different dishes here and every single one has been a success. My only complaint is that their daily specials are so good you wish they would put them on the regular menu. The first time I came, I had a chicken cordon bleu that I've been craving ever since, but it was a one-time special. For those who say it too expensive, remember this isn't processed fast food. If you want cheap, processed fast food, Plainview has plenty of options. But if you want something crafted with intention and worth savoring, this is the place. The time, energy, and effort they put into making these meals from scratch is exactly why they are worth the price. Maybe it's not something you'd eat every day if you are on a tight budget, but it is definitely a treat when you do. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere is cute and cozy with both indoor and outdoor seating. It gives you the option of a romantic date night vibe or a warm and welcoming family dinner. Cheaper usually means less healthy and less fresh. The food here is made with care and it shows. I 10 out of 10 highly recommend giving it a try.

I arrived shortly after 8am as couple was leaving who sang the praises of the menu. I was the only one in the dining room. I ordered the Breakfast plate (sausage patty, 2 scrambled eggs, and a biscuit) and a soda. Food was good. Service was friendly. Biscuit was amazing. A ticket of over $14? Not so good. As I left, my thoughts were that I would gladly stop by regularly and support local if the prices were more reasonable. $7.50 for a breakfast biscuit? I get that the biscuit is homemade, but you've got to be kidding me! The empty dining space should be sign #1 that you have an issue -- and it's not the food. My opinion was solidified when I looked at the other menus that I was given. Loaded fries with a $20 price tag? In a small west Texas community? As much as I enjoyed my experience this morning, I won't be back for a while. I can't afford it! And that makes me very sad.

The Hale County Safety Rest Area has multiple bathrooms for both genders, in addition to picnic areas on the side. But like most business & municipal entities during these post-apocalyptic years, staffing issues still create problems. Sometimes the bathrooms are open, and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes there is toilet paper and soap readily available, and sometimes not. My experience during my return trip to Lubbock via Amarillo was better than past visits, yet I didn't have soap to wash my hands (thank you, car hand sanitizer). I'm years past, the lack of basic bathroom amenities was alarming. Nonetheless, this rest stop is always fairly chill in stopping at, resting up for a bit, and then proceeding either towards I-20 or northbound I-40. Yet if you really have to use the bathroom to drop a deuce, I highly recommend bringing your own toilet paper + soap- this rest area may not have it available. And when drying your hands, step outside and let the wind air dry them for you (they aren't going to have paper towels or a working air dryer either).
