Architectural gem in Cincinnati. The only building in the…read morearea designed by renowned architect, Frank Gehry. As many of his buildings, it possesses a folded winding asymetrical facade with a mix of materials, mostly glass, steel, and, quite surprisingly, bricks. This is, unlike most of his projects, a less bold and quite mellow project. Many people refer to it as a deconstructed barrel. If you are familiar with Gehry's work and style, you will still instantly recognize his genius here. Because it is a University of Cincinnati's building housing research laboratories, the original project, that included much more external steel and glass, was toned down. Personally, I find it sad that they chose Gehry to design a research building, which by its nature requires straight angles and enforced walls for a lot of equipment. I feel the practicality of this project forced Gehry to compromise a lot of his vision, and yet it is still a distinct and focal point of the medical campus. The building undergoes some exterior renovation at this time, but once in the area, don't forget to check it out and see the interior as well. Since it houses the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies, there are a lot of active cancer research labs inside and access indoor may be restricted. The gallery presenting life and work of Albert Sabin, the inventor of oral polio vaccine, is also there in the main hall. Happy to see this beauty on campus almost daily. The official Catholic church of College Hill--…read more --St. Clare Church is one of the cornerstones of the College Hill community. Though the associated parish school closed some time ago, there still is a vibrant and active congregation. The church holds various events throughout the year and has a presence in regular neighborhood events like the annual pumpkin patch. Every Friday through Lent St. Clare will be holding their annual fish fry held in the church basement. St. Clare shares a parking lot with College Hill Presbyterian and also has its own parking lot that is associated with the school behind the church. Parking is also available on the street and is typically used before the parking lots as it is closer to the church entry. If you get the chance spend some time with Father George. When he's not leading masses at St. Clare Church he likes to spend his time as an apiarist. Father George's honey can commonly be found on sale at church events. He bottles at varying times during the year which makes for different flavors and colors of honey (this is dependent upon what types of flowers are available to the bees during the spring, summer, and fall). I suggest the spring honey, it is very light and sweet! St. Clare is also the home to a handful of nuns and monks who live and work in the adjacent buildings.

Heritage Academy in Florence Ky is a Pre K through 12th grade private Christian school. They were rated 16th in all of Ky for private schools in 2015. My Daughter is a freshman there and she absolutely loves it and her teachers! What's more, it's actually affordable compared to the other private schools in the area. And if you have more than 2 kids, it's even better because you only pay tuition for the first 2. The rest are free! They also offer extra curricular activities like sports, art club etc... They offer college prep assistance, ACT,SAT testing and so on. It's a small classroom environment so students get plenty of personal attention by very dedicated teachers. Love this school!!

During my junior year in the history program at the University of Cincinnati, we visited the Hebrew Union College to learn about their archives and how to do archival research for our junior topics research paper, a sort of precursor to our senior paper.I think it should be mentioned that the HUC does have some free parking in their lot and that you have to be buzzed in at the door to get inside due to security issues. Once inside, it becomes obvious that a lot of money and time has gone into making this building a state of the art, modern research center. During our visit, we were taken to a lecture room and given a talk on etiquette among other things, which was very reminiscent of some of the nicer rooms I have been in on the UC campus. However, what really stood out to me was how nice their archives and archival library were. Not only was the lady working at the desk extremely friendly, the space itself was spacious and definitely welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds who were interested in learning about history by using primary documents. It should be noted that many of their documents are actually NOT related to the American Jewish experience as well and that they cover a wide variety of topics. Although I feel that the Hebrew Union College probably deserves more than three stars, I am refraining giving them more until I have a chance to come back and visit this wonderful research institute and its museum that we have right in our own back yard.
