They do whatever they can to milk money from students (especially from the international ones) and do not deliver good quality courses and SERVICES. I attended the North American Business Applied and do not recommend it. There are similar courses out there for a much better price, and most of the time, the instructors will be the same - btw, one of the few things that I liked about CapilanoU. Do not expect to have much assistance from their staff. They don't keep their word at all! I confess that I got a lot disappointed, maybe because I was expecting too much from this college - considering the huge amount of $ and time invested. if I could turn back time, I'd have chosen another university for sure!

I've attended Cap U twice in my life; One when it was Capilano College under the film studies and a…read morefew years later (recently) under the culinary program. My primary review is for the film program. I came here based on the reputation at the time of the course being better than some in the city (you know who you are). For what you paid and what the course had to offer seemed weak. The course was divided into sectionals: Lighting and camera, script writing, editing, AC, history of film, and business of film. Some teachers in the course had experience in the industry that were relevant and had a lot to offer while others were out dated. Please note that my experience compared to the current course may have changed as well as the teachers, however, I know that most of these are still in existence 'cause I have some of my friends nieces currently enrolled. Through conversation with them I feel that situations have not changed. Of course names will not be mentioned as that is irrelevant to the review. Editing: Bi-polar teacher that was supportive one moment and screaming at your the next for no reason. Not enough computers to go around to encourage or allow students to work on projects. History of film: You watch movies all day, something that I can do on my own for free on Netflix. Teacher was sexiest. Script Supervising: One of the most valued courses for me. I have an eye for mistakes and love the technical side of things in regards to continuity. Aside from a PA on major productions, for independent movies I did a lot of script supervising. Teacher was warm, knowledgeable and she made things make sense. Camera & Lighting: Learned some basics, however, with new lenses, editing and lighting this soon became an outdated course. The basics still hold value today. Business of Film: Teacher had an awesome sense of dark sarcasm and humor, we got along great. After learning about the business, financial numbers seen very interesting to you. I found that the course had way too many fresh out of high school kids who either didn't know what they wanted, thought they could be the next Lucas, still had some high school tendencies. I was a bit older than them and established myself a bit more to mature and grow before finding my way. There weren't enough people that were my age or slightly adult who took the course as seriously as they should. This partially ruined my learning experience. I was 4 years older than most of the students and still too young for the few adults. Way too much drama and high school attitude that most of my classmates carried through in their adult life. Because of this I didn't get a lot out of this during the projects as I felt were owed to me. This is a flaw with the admissions portion as mentioned before, not the students themselves. As mentioned, even if you have a demo tape. If you had the money or a scholarship, you were in. No real filtering of students who would actually elevate or make the course. The course was overly priced. Parking is horrible, take the bus. Parking is horrible, take the bus.

The College has a brand new Dorm and many of the buildings are fairly new. The Campus grounds are…read morewell maintained and the library is very easy to use with extremely friendly librarians who are always willing to give you a hand. There are some staff members who are very nice and easy to get along with, but many of them bring their personal views into the classroom which can create a very unpleasant experience. In several cases, some teachers have criticized and ridiculed pastors and evangelists I enjoy listening to and following, to the delight of the class. Also, previous student experiences have been used as examples in the classroom to create an atmosphere where those with similar experiences would feel belittled and afraid to share their opinions. If you are a more conservative style Christian, I would not recommend this school to you. Money is also a big issue if you decide to go to this school. The school offers Government Student Loans which would be considered a plus, however the teachers of the school have openly criticized people being in debt. I was even questioned as to why my family was in debt by two different teachers on two separate occasions. In the past 5 years, tuition has risen by around $100 per credit because, I believe,of the building of a new dormitory. The classrooms are extremely old and are only located in the oldest building on the campus. All of them are in serious need of repair and are extremely cold in the winters. Commuters are blessed to have a free lunch every week and they have a large lounge were they can go and chat or do some work. There are also a few areas on the campus where you can enjoy yourself, such as the basement of the main building which has several pool tables and other games. There are also plenty of activities around the campus to keep you entertained. One thing to be wary of is the clique atmosphere of the school. Students tend to keep to their own groups and it can become very difficult to engage with them. One other issue would be the anti military views that the majority of students seem to have. If you are pro military or ex-military, I would not suggest this school to you. All in all I would suggest that if you are a conservative Christian, or even semi-conservative for that matter, stay away from this college. If money is an issue I would also suggest you look elsewhere for the tuition costs have been raised every semester for the past few years.

TERRIBLE rip off I enrolled in Surrey college for the unit…read moreclerk program in 2008 it was the biggest mistake of my entire young life the instructor for the unit clerk program was just a unit clerk I don't know what qualification she had to even administer this course it was about $5000 and their admissions team set everything up for me with BC student loans so I just signed on the dotted line when I started my course everything was so hectic and we had 27 girls in our class some had just graduated high school others came from professional jobs in other countries to make a Long story short within a few months of starting this program the class had dwindled down to only three students all of the other students had been removed from the class with prejudice just because the instructor did not like them they had even excepted students who knew absolutely no English so nobody got a refund they basically scammed 24 people out of thousands of dollars for no reason they need to be shut down and I see that they only offer three programs as of 2015 they must have made a lot of people very angry by offering the course letting them in taking their money and just kicking them out. It is very very upsetting. I have the transcripts myself to prove how well I was doing before the instructor pulled me aside and told me I wasnt going to 'make it' and should just leave. After I was resistant she just failed me. It was completely 100% unethical to The point that I did create a big fuss about it but never gained anything from it I still know several people from That course and it really messed up their lives now having the student loan debt for nothing. why didn't the school just deny the application because their English was too little or they weren't considered too young or they could've used any excuse but they didn't care they just wanted their money. What I don't understand why they would even let someone in to that program if they didn't think they could do the course at all. There were women in the course who had been pharacists in India, one a 50 year old legal assistant, all tossed aside because of there lack of english or mainly the instructor claimed these girls shouldnt be in this course at all because they were 'too young' or 'would never be able to be a unit clerk' based on the instructors personal judgements. is just not fair and was a huge waste of everyones time and money. I did complain to the PCTIA. I should have known better when I walked into the 'college' it was held in a makeshift trailer. Thanks for listening to me and Please I wouldnt wish my worst enemy to this pathetic unrecognized unprofessional place. It ruined my life. Now I work as an office assistant truly regretting the thousands of dollars I have to pay back for nothing. It also ate up all our self esteem. I attended the open house and, at first, everything seemed amazing. The presentation by Nadine was…read morepolished and convincing, and it gave the impression of a warm, well-managed Montessori environment with strong values and attentive leadership. Unfortunately, that impression did not match our actual experience after enrollment, and we never saw that same level of involvement or quality again. I would strongly caution any parent considering Peregrine Montessori. My daughter attended from November 2022 to June, and our experience was extremely disappointing. While the initial sales pitch from Nadine sounded impressive-promising a high-quality Montessori environment and strong developmental support-the reality was very different. The biggest issue was the lack of leadership and accountability. Nadine was almost entirely absent throughout the year (I would estimate 90-95% of the time). It became clear that her focus was elsewhere, and the school was not being actively managed. Once you enroll, you rarely, if ever, see her again. The school presents itself as following Montessori principles, but in practice, the classroom did not reflect those standards. The teaching staff did not consistently demonstrate the methods or philosophy that were promised during enrollment. I also found the classroom environment to be more restrictive than expected. Some of the staff seemed to follow a more conservative and restrictive approach with the children, which did not align with the encouraging and expressive environment we were expecting for our child. Additionally, my daughter was questioned multiple times for not speaking Hindi, despite English being our primary language at home. This was both confusing and concerning for us as parents. Another concerning issue was that one of the teachers struggled to correctly pronounce my daughter's name for several months, despite it being a common English name. Even after my daughter expressed discomfort, there was little effort made to correct it until I had to step in and politely request that her name be pronounced properly. I believe this is a basic sign of respect that should not be overlooked. The food is good in quality, but the menu is repetitive-essentially the same meals every week-which quickly becomes monotonous for the children. Financially, this school is expensive, and unfortunately, we also experienced issues with outstanding payments that were never refunded. It felt like the primary focus of the school was on collecting fees rather than delivering quality care and education. I also found it frustrating that there was no clear option to leave a review on Google or other major platforms. As a parent, I believe transparency and open feedback are very important when choosing a school. The lack of visible options for parents to share their experiences is, in itself, concerning. Overall, I regret enrolling my child here. As a parent, I strongly encourage others to do intensive research before enrolling their child here. I wish I had looked deeper beyond the initial presentation.
