Being Canadian, I love shopping in the USA for food that we don't have in Canada. There's a Family Fare Supermarket there. Prices aren't all that great though. There's also a Kohl's, JC Penney, Jo-Ann, a shoe store and some other stores. Lots of free parking.

The second time I had occasion to go into the Dollar Tree looking for decaffeinated tea to drink in the evening but they didn't have any that was marked decaf. I bought a bag of popcorn and a carton of chicken broth instead. When I looked at the grocery store, Family Fare, I found some Constant Comment type decaffeinated tea which I hope I will like. I saw a Penney's store and a sporting goods store, even a Bed Bath & Beyond to my surprise. Across the road there's even a Walmart. The Marathon Gas station seems to be part of the center also and I think you can get money off on your gas if you shop at the Family Fare. I thought the gas price was pretty fair even without a discount. I had just researched gas prices on GasBuddy.com in the morning so I had a pretty good idea what the range was for this date.

My two daughters and I stopped this past Sunday during a small girls day. About a minute after we…read morewalked in there was an older female employee very non discreetly following us. She was pointing at my daughters while looking at hats, pushed my oldest daughter out of the way while she was "stocking" something, already in the correct place, only to set it right back down where she had picked it up from, at one point I looked up and saw her just a couple feet away pointing at me while talking on her headset among other things. She made my daughters, especially my youngest very uncomfortable and when I mentioned it to the woman at the counter she said, "She's only doing her job." I've worked in customer service/management positions for twenty years, and would consider that very poor customer service. There are more efficient, less harassing ways of handling loss prevention if that was her intent.

Walmart is Walmart is Walmart, it's the people who make the difference. I had interactions with…read morefour different people while shopping in the store and three of four were outstanding. A vendor in the electronics department was my first contact and though he wasn't a Walmart employee he approached and asked if I needed help as soon as I got that confused look on my face, and was very helpful. Because he wasn't a Walmart employee he was unable to answer a final question and directed me to the department manager who was clearly annoyed and only assisted me after I continued to press for assistance. As I continued wandering around the store while waiting for my wife I needed some assistance and encounter number three was initiated by a Walmart employee stocking shelves who went out of her way to walk me to my destination. My final contact came at checkout - self scan - where a very pleasant, friendly lady greeted me, assisted me and wished me a Happy New Year! The store was clean, well lit, lots of people working to keep the shelves stocked. Lots of parking, and the lot was well maintained despite 10+ inches of snow in the previous 48 hours. I've been in Walmart stores in many different states over the years, this one appears to be well managed and most people were helpful and friendly.

Station Mall is the biggest mall in Sault Ste Marie. It is anchored by Sears and Walmart. It has…read moremostly big chain stores and has a decent food court. It's pretty bright and while it looks old on the outside, it looks much newer on the inside. It is the best mall in The Soo if you want somewhere to hang out and shop for a few hours. There's free parking in the large parking lot.
