When I showed up I was told one car was ahead of me. Then I sat in the lobby for over an hour before my car was brought in. Additionally, my car requires synthetic but for some reason this shop doesn't charge you a synthetic rate, you instead pay for a normal oil change plus the retail price of synthetic oil and filter so you're paying for the standard oil and filter you don't actually get. So I'm spending about $15 more than I would if I went to the normal drive through place I usually go to in town that would have gotten me or of here an hour faster.

We popped into Apple to check out the latest devices, browsed through Anthropologie for a few gift ideas, and also stopped by H&M for casual wear. The variety here means there's something for everyone in the family. The food options were solid too. The food court has familiar favorites; for a more upscale break, restaurants with patios overlooking the lake offer a more relaxing atmosphere. The staff everywhere we encountered them was courteous and helpful, especially in stores where we asked questions. The mall is well maintained, restrooms are clean, and common areas feel well cared for. We appreciated the amenities like stroller or wheelchair rental, device charging stations (outside Apple), and multiple restroom throughout. One thing to be mindful of: some mallgoers report that kiosk vendors by walkways can be overly enthusiastic--if you're not in the mood to be approached, it helps to keep moving. With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!

My handicapped wife asked where the restroom is and was told "we don't have a restroom." Really? We ended up leaving the store without looking around any further and didn't buy anything at all. I don't understand how they can expect customers to leave and go to Caseys and then come back to continue shopping. Having a restroom keeps people in the store and cleaning it is just part doing business. Open your restrooms!!!

This is a chain that buys customer returns and end-of-season items and sells them at a discount. Think Amazon returns, overstock or out of season Target items, etc. Then, everything is dumped into bins for folks to look through: it's not even sorted into "soft" and "hard" like at the Goodwill bins. But the perk is, everything is new with tags / barely used! The pricing is unique - it goes: $10 Fridays $7 Saturdays $5 Sundays $3 Mondays $2 Tuesdays $1 Wednesdays 25c Thursdays We came on a Sunday and found a few items: an electric beard trimmer, a plant pot, an outdoor rug, Duke Cannon soap. However, I would say if I were to come back, I'd probably come on either $10 Friday hoping for a bigger ticket item, or on Tuesday/Wednesday because most stuff just wasn't worth $5. Lots of plastic items, cheap items and felt too small/cheap for $5. There were lots of clothes, but they were mixed in with the hard goods so hard to go through, and most were Target or Amazon brands so didn't see much value in going through them on $5 day - for me at least. If you're looking for kids toys and stuff, household decor and trinkets, acrylic organizers, and gifts - this is a great place to stock up on the cheaper days! Super interesting to look through. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon, but very interesting!
