Winn-Dixie was a great supermarket when I first moved to Florida back in 2001. Something happened over the course of time and Winn-Dixie became pretty abysmal. The quality slipped overall and perhaps the saddest slip in quality came from their meat department. For a supermarket that once proudly considered themselves the "Beef People," Winn-Dixie allowed the quality of their before to slip drastically and they were basically offering inferior meat that was only USDA inspected and not graded. Winn-Dixie realized the error of their ways and now have a focus on their USDA Choice grade meat. The staff at this location was friendly and while the location might be a bit worn, the staff is friendly and the quality is definitely there.

I use this stones store over the other local stones locations because they always have what you…read moreneed or will get something you use on a regular. The store manager is straight forward and blunt at times but with the way people are now a days, can you blame him? He's not rude or disrespectful, he just runs a tight ship and holds his crew to a higher expectation. Every time I walk in I'm greeted by one of the employees asking if I need help finding anything but not in the way they feel like they HAVE to ask but because they genuinely want to help. I saw a few comments from others saying that they are over priced and I would agree but being the only hardware store in a small town just around the corner gives you that advantage and to be fair, they've been there much longer than I can remember. So they are doing something right. I'd consider this store more of an emergency supply to small project store, if you use them as supplier for say, building an addition or even a full house that could be on the pricy side but they do deliver materials at an extremely competitive rate so remember, get a quote on lumber. if you don't like the price, don't be a Karen and try to ruin a local company just because you don't agree with small insignificant things that don't matter. now if the location was absolutely in need of repairs and cleaning I'd post that but just because you may not like how the crew is or the pricing, that is yours to deal with because like myself, and a lot of other locals, we appreciate our local businesses and they have proved that they deserve our Business.

They've been open for over 60 years in exactly the same spot and Linda Earnest, the owner, is the second generation to work there (but third and fourth are working there, too!). Linda is delightful and is happy to tell you the history of the business. They are an aggregator, meaning they buy pecans from local farms and individuals. The nuts are then sent to their buyer in Pensacola who in turn sells them to shellers who sell them to businesses that sell the nuts or use them in goods such as candies. The buyer takes the best nuts, shells them, and sends them right back to Earnest either raw or in any number of candies. These are "new crop" nuts, meaning they were from the current season (October-February ish). That's different than "this years" nuts which could have been harvested back in January (which is what you'll get from many of the roadside but sellers and supermarkets). So you always want new crop, rather than this year's, when you can get it. They are fresher and far tastier. You can go around back and see the buying and bagging operation. But you really want to go into the store to buy some nuts and nut candies. Everything we tried was delicious. And they also have a large assortment of holiday gifts and packaging. The business is seasonal and is typically open from October until February, or until pecan season is over. Call them or check out their Facebook page for their current hours. Well worth a visit!
