I popped in a couple weeks ago and a lot of clearance items were being put out. Score! Lots of Christmas gifts and the lady putting things out was super nice and happy to get things up high that I wanted. Then on to my regular shopping which included 75lbs of sugar for my business and enough other items to completely fill the cart. Went to checkout only to find there were 2 lanes open where someone was actually running a register and each had very long lines. I reluctantly headed to the right end of self checkout kiosks and noticed 3 employees standing near the self checkout area chatting while apparently waiting to see if anyone in self checkout needed help. I look at my cart overflowing, look at them, look down to see only two lanes open and take a deep breathe and get to work. As I scan and fill my bags I soon run out of room on the platform and start placing bags on the floor and occassionaly look over to see either 2 or 3 employees still standing there watching the lights. Each time I think about pressing my button to give them something to do, but I decide that would be wrong. Near the end of this 20 minutes of work, I scan a can of paint and force a light watcher to come over to verify my age. The young girl looks at the screen and simply needs to press the button to approve. She says she isn't sure because one time she was supposed to press 'no' and pressed 'yes' and that was wrong, so she doesnt want to do it wrong. The question was literally in front of us, but she had to call over another of the three for a chat about the correct answer and 4 minutes later that one item gets cleared and they head back over past all my bags on the floor to stand and wait. No awareness to say 'can we help you load all those' or 'oh my goodness, let us bring another cart so you don't have to put then on the floor then pick them back up'. Smh So I pay my $300+ total, load up my cart and head to my vehicle. As I finish loading and move my cart I notice a small pile of sugar under the cart. Great! Undoubtedly one of the 25lb bags had a hole in it and sure enough as I drive away I can see a small white line all the way to the exit door. That meant I had lost a good bit of the bag of sugar I paid for. Awesome! I really am frugal, but there was zero chance I was going back in that store where I'd probably be asked to sweep up all the sugar while the light watchers stood......... waiting to be of 'service' instead of just being of service. read more
