I feel guilty about the Walmart in Norwich Connecticut because of the grease from the Arnold Bread and the Great Value Potato Chips.

This Walmart doens't have a lot of variety compared to the other walmarts. The store is kinda dingy and there are always long lines.

I haven't been to too many Joannes but have more often been in Michaels. It gives off kind of an "old" feeling...like it's been around a while and it's not that things are deteriorating...I'm not sure why, it's not like the whole place is knitting supplies and you can only picture little old ladies there.... They were out of what I was intending to get...but had something else I could also use not a replacement but an additional item and it happened to be on sale so I got it. Otherwise it seems the prices are VERY high compared to Michaels or getting it elsewhere. They had a bunch of beads in front on clearance but I had no use for it. The people working there were nice. I actually like it when people seem "farm girlish" to me because for me that's the opposite of pretentious and "having airs about them" and they just seem genuine and down to earth and pleasant. I also associate the farm type to people who would not as likely talk about you behind your back and laugh at your lack of fashion or something when you leave. So I feel more comfortable with them on many levels. The opposite of "judgy" I'd say. Warm, welcoming, not edgy or dark....so I've been finding lately in many of my responses to places it's been the people that make an impression.... So...if you need craft supplies and are in Norwich- I think this is where would make sense to go as I don't know of other options in the area.... and if it HAD to be Joanns, this is one of the closest locations to me. Perhaps it was the lower lighting that made it seem older...more yellow. Whereas the Michaels seem to be brighter and whiter light.... I can't tell if the Joanne flooring and walls are yellow or it's just the lighting....either way seemed like a fairly small store...and I don't know why some things were SOOO much higher priced than elsewhere, but they did have options not available elsewhere. I asked the staff what makes this place different than Michaels and was told it's especially the fabric- so I guess for those who sew, this be your jam yo! And may your sewing machine NOT jam :)

I can't say enough good things about Shoe Smith in Willimantic…read more I originally purchased a pair of HOKA Challenger 7s after they took the time to evaluate my feet with their scanning equipment and listened carefully to my orthopedic history, including a knee replacement and an ankle fusion. Their recommendation was spot on. I wore those shoes on a full day walking all over New York City, and they were the most comfortable walking shoes I've ever owned. I was completely pain-free. Unfortunately, the shoes developed a manufacturing defect after only a week. I brought them back expecting an exchange for the same model. Instead, they stood behind the product and upgraded me to a pair of HOKA Bondi 9s at no additional cost. That level of customer service is becoming increasingly rare. They treated me with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern for making sure I left with a shoe that was right for me. If you're thinking about buying shoes, skip the big-box stores and support this local business. The personalized fitting, expert advice, and outstanding service are worth every penny. They've earned a customer for life.

I've always been very satisfied with their repairs. They carry excellent shoes for every need…read more They also have many sales for people like me who are on a limited income. They are the only shoe repair business in the state that I am aware of and it reminds me of the past when shoes were of the best quality and we always brought our shoes and other leather goods to be repaired, not cheap shoes thrown out and have to buy another pair of much less quality. I would recommend them to anyone and especially to those with special foot needs.
