This tour is great! I'm so glad we picked it!! First off, this tour isn't hokey or attempt to give you a fake scare or a guaranteed ghost sighting. So if you are looking for some theatrical fake cheap Halloween thrill or a guide with gimmicks like a "ghost detector", this isn't for you. This tour is just as much about Charleston's deep, rich history as much as the ghosts that haunt it. I learned so much about Charleston along with going to the different sites tonight. It was really awesome. Geordie is an amazing guide. He is friendly, funny, well spoken and most of all, interesting. His tour flows and doesn't feel rehearsed or forced. You actually get to go into the sites too. The tour runs 90 minutes and it is so fun. Be sure you take pictures along the way and check them out later. You never know what you might capture in the background! read more

This is a MUST do when you to Charleston!! My husband and I had the best experience. Our tour guide was awesome and so knowledgeable. Charleston has so much history. We will definitely be back! read more

Amazing tour! Guide was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We would not have noticed most of the interesting things he pointed out if we we just walking the city on our own. This city has so much history to offer and our guide was amazing at describing it. Definitely recommend this tour!! read more

Was very exciting and information. Learned a lot and Geordie was very entertaining it was fast moving!

Excellent tour! Lots of history delivered in a fun, and personalized way...definitely not a cookie cutter tour. The owner is knowledgeable and his love for his city shows. read more

Fun tour with Geordie. He was very knowledgeable, had us laughing and kept us engaged which is hard for group tours. I think the kids were hoping it would be more scary but we all enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot. read more

If you are looking for a tour of Charleston, this is it! Geordie is fun, witty, and extremely knowledgeable. We moved here 7 years ago and have taken many tours of the Charleston area. This was by far the best we have experienced. From beginning to end, Geordie kept us informed and entertained. He is a Charleston native who is extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture and people of the area. Don't miss it! read more

Geordie outdid himself again. We had a large group go on a haunted pirate tour. We learned more about Charleston history than any book could ever cover! BTW, Geordie has published several books that are incredible reading... Find him. He's always got a Living Social deal, so there's no excuse. He is by far, the best tour guide in town! read more

Jordie was one of the best tour guides I have encountered. A native and historian who knows more about Charleston than u wish to know. Took the City Walking tour one morning before lunch. Another customer with us had been on 8 tours with Jordie she enjoyed so much. I have done many different tours in many cities and this tour and guide has passion. That is the difference. read more

This tour comes highly recommended when visiting Charleston! Geordie was so knowledgeable and passionate about his city and the stories it had to tell. You can tell he truly loves what he does and is not just a job to him. This was a fantastic cap to our stay in Charleston! read more

I was here on business and at the last minute booked the tour. This was exceptional!!! Gordie was so knowledgeable and taught us so much about the culture of Charleston. The good and the very very bad. Kudos to you Gordie for giving us a realistic and truthful tour. read more

Informative and thorough. This was a well paced tour. Our guide Geordie displayed a wealth of information delivered in a personal and interactive manner. He was aware of the needs of all and made us feel comfortable and safe. Highly recommended. read more

After many scheduling mishaps (on my part!) Geordie was more than accommodating! His knowledge of Charleston is beyond extensive, and it truly shows with his tour. Learning about important pieces of Charleston's history was so enjoyable and fun, and with him I was able to see parts of Charleston I would have missed all together. I would highly recommend taking one of his tours if you're looking for something a little spooky, or even if you're just looking to learn a little about a beautiful city! read more

Walks In History - During the pirate ghost tour sept 2012 - Historical Tours Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

This was more of a history tour than a supernatural or paranormal tour. Our guide was informative but he didn't care that the whole crowd was not staying together as everyone walks at a different pace. By the end of the tour me and my friend we're almost a block behind him and the tour and no one seemed to care. I had heard great reviews about the store and was sadly not impressed. I believe the gentleman's name we toured with was Jordy, George something like that. Learned alot about the history of town when I could keep up with the guide. But if you want a truly eerie experience do the haunted jail tour with Jack Kelly! Wish the tour guide on the walk around town made sure everyone was keeping up and staying together! read more

Really fun night out while in Charleston! The tour was a very interesting walk through the haunted history of Charleston. Geordie did a fantastic job of establishing his credibility in re-telling the stories of those who have had supernatural experiences in Charleston. As he put it, this tour is not a "petting zoo" - there is no cheesy supernatural experiences or scare tactics (which was perfect for our group). He focused on some of Charleston's most haunted places and the stories behind them. He also did a great job engaging with our tour group and made the stories relevant to those on the tour (we had a few seniors, as well as older children). Highly recommended as an alternative to the traditional (boring) history walk! read more

After reading all the positive reviews of Walks In History Ghost Tours, I booked an evening tour for my awesome staff! We didn't want anything super scary or frightful, but something that touched on the dark history of Charleston. Geordie was an excellent tour guide. He was interactive with the group and had us laughing one minute and then a bit spooked the next. All of us really loved it, so thank you for a great girls night out! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We learned so much about the city on a cultural, historical and supernatural level. Jordy, the guide, was engaging and extremely knowledgeable. read more

Awesome experience. All my family was visiting so, all 14 of us went on the Supernatural Charleston tour. Geordie , our guide, is very knowledgeable and passionate about Charleston history and Charleston ghosts. We had 8 children in our group ranging from 16 to 9. Geordie was very patient in answering their questions and was great at keeping their attention. We had so much fun, we booked the Pirate tour for the next morning. We left feeling excited and ready for another tour. read more

My boys and I have done haunted city tours just about everywhere from Boston to Key West. Geordie was hands down the best, most engaged and knowledgable guide we've ever had. The tour was fun, interesting and spooky. He passed along so much historical information about Charleston while keeping on point with the haunted nature of the tour. If you're in Charleston and want something interesting and fun to do...take this tour. You won't be disappointed. read more

Five Stars. Hands down. Flexible (it rained the original night but he let us reschedule), Kid friendly (11 yr old son on the tour), expert knowledge and a fantastic story-teller. Walks In History is a must do in Charleston. He doesn't recite a script, advocates self checking his facts and is a great guy to take a walk with thru this fabulous city. Stop reading and book the walk already!!! read more

We had a great tour with Michelle today. She was knowledgeable and entertaining. My son and I left knowing a lot more about the City and believing in ghosts...ok somewhat. We spent two hours on the pirates and ghost tour and really had a blast. Thanks, Michelle! read more

Loved the Haunted Charleston tour with Geordie! Used a Groupon for this 90 minute tour which ran about two hours. Geordie is a great story teller and very personable. We learned lots about Charleston history-both haunted and not and enjoyed walking around the city. Only wish I had cash with me to purchase his book from Geordie, but got it on amazon upon returning home. Worth every penny! read more

It was fun and very informative. The guide was great! would do it again.

Geordie (published author of haunted locations) was our guide and he is both informative and entertaining. We learned a lot about the history of Charleston as well as the haunted locations and why they became haunted around the city. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking for ghost stories and lots of other interesting information. read more

Geordie is very knowledgable and obviously has a passion for the history of Charleston. Our tour was a wonderful glimpse into the past of this colorful city. I especially enjoyed learning more about the pirates. Growing up in NC and having spent much of my life at the coast I have heard a lot of history about pirates. However, I have never heard or read a version as well researched and articulated as what I got during our tour. Geordie was able to tell the story as if he had been there himself! I definitely plan to do another tour with him in the future. read more

We took the Pirate and Haunted History walking tour offered by Walks In History and really enjoyed it. Tour guide, Geordie, was very personable and knew a lot of Charleston history. We will look into taking another tour offered by Geordie when we return to Charleston. read more

Geordie is a great guide and especially knowledgable on all things Charleston. Every minute of the tour was an experience and I would consider it again next time I am in town. read more

My best friend and I were on our first visit to Charleston and decided to do a ghost tour on Halloween night! Geordie was our guide and he was such a really cool guy. The tour started off in the square of the old Citadel and he was fount of really cool Charlestonian information. The spookiest part was our visit to the cemetery. There was a lot of weird stuff going on in there! I was definitely kind of freaked out. The rest of the tour wasn't really scary at all - so I would say if you are looking for super scary don't go - but if you are looking for fun and information about the city in a cool setting then this is right up your alley. We were also gonna purchase Geordie's book but couldn't make it back to the book store we saw it in. Next time! read more

We did the supernatural tour and though it wasn't scary at all - which was a wee bit disappointing - we were freaked out at one point (the orphanage). Geordie is a cool guy and very talkative with the group. We were a group of 13 in total and seemed a bit delayed in getting started because Geordie engaged all of us in 20 questions about where we're from and what we do for a living but he that was part of his southern charm. We started at the citadel, which was cool and interesting, went to the orphanage, which was creepy as we may had "triggered" a poltergeist!, visited the sight of public executions and finished at the College of Charleston. The stories were vivid but def had a "ghost stories" feel. We didn't visit the cemetery which was a bummer. Aside from that Geordie is very knowledgable, fun, engaging and obviously loves Charleston and what he does! read more

We found Walks in History on Groupon, and bought one for our upcoming trip to Charleston. We were really looking forward to it, but both a little skeptical that the tour might be kitschy or hokey. Geordie's tour was just the opposite. He led us through multiple areas of Charleston, some of which I doubt are available to the corporate ghost tours. Geordie told plenty of "ghost stories" but he knowledgeably situated the stories in the rich history of Charleston. We certainly got more than we bargained for; rich history, and a good spook! Another incentive, both Geordie and his partner are locals, and so is their business. read more

I was in Charleston for my best friend's bachelorette party. We are big fans of history and ghost tours - we do them in every city we can. Our large group was full of true crime lovers and ladies who'd rather not be kept awake with nightmares, and we all loved this tour. Geordie gave us just the right balance of ghost stories and Charleston history. It's my favorite way to learn about a new city and this one did not disappoint. Thanks so much! read more

Attended the supernatural tour last night with my husband and 12 year old daughter and niece. Had a fantastic time! Loved all the history and stories! Recommend to anyone in the area! read more

Geordie's tour through historic Charleston was great! His sense of humor and rich knowledge of history combine to make this a very rewarding tour (especially at such a reasonable price) if you're in Charleston. The pace was great, even on a blistering summer afternoon, and we learned a ton about the rich history of Charleston, the South and colonial America. Highly recommended! read more

We took the Haunted Charleston tour with Geordie Buxton and were completely satisfied. Geordie was fun, knowledgeable and answered all questions that were thrown his way. There was so much history mixed in with the haunted tour, it was like getting two tours in one. read more

This was everything I was looking for in a haunted tour of Charleston. Our guide was extremely informative, knowledgeable, yet also hilarious. At times we were somber and reflective about the dark past of the city. At other times, I was almost in tears of laughter because of his quick wit. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Do it! read more

My boyfriend and I went on the ghost tour on Valentine's Day. Our tour guide was entertaining. We didn't have to walk too far (which was good because it was freezing), but still got to see some important sites. Our guide did a good job of incorporating the ghost stories with the history of Charleston as well. Was overall a good tour and I didn't find myself bored at any point during the hour and a half tour. My boyfriend, who is more into history than me, loved it! It was a good time! read more
