The courtyards are part of the charm of Charlestown.

My husband I were drawn into the near and distant history of Charleston by resident Anne's lively and knowledgeable walking tour. Her history is enlivened with tales handed down through many generations of families and thorough grounding in research. We are fit seniors though Anne gauges her walking to the abilities in the group. We recommend Anne's tours.

Wonderful! The best thing we did in Charleston. A must do!!! The history is magical. We had no idea what all Charleston had to share. We now look for the turn buckles and fire insurance plagues all around the city. It was 1 mile over 2 hours. Slow paced and packed with good info.

The MOST informative tour my son and I have been on. It was amazing. Martha, being a native of Charleston with historically deep roots in our city, delivered an historically intriguing tour. Along the way, her presentation provoked questions (which I love) and she was able to answer and expound on the previous information she gave. It was like peeling back an onion. My son asked me so many questions on the way home. Thank you Martha for such an exquisite tour of our home. I couldn't have picked anyone better to guide our "tourist in our own city day".

One of the many secret alleys Martha had us explore.

Martha was a great guide and the name Charleston Perspective is all too fitting. As a native, Martha gave a completely genuine look at Charleston before the big tourist boom. Worth it!

Superb: Anne was knowledgeable, funny, and informative. But for the frigid weather, it was a perfect tour experience.

A charming and informative tour from a woman who is 13th generation Charleston resident. A great introduction to the history of this town.

Was the rest of our trip so underwhelming that our excursion with Lowcountry Walking Tours exceeded all other expectations? Perhaps we just lucked out with the optimal factors to catapult our urban trek to a noteworthy high. I can't point my finger at any particular indicator that the rest of our Charleston trip was subpar, so I'm concluding that our tour was truly outstanding. First off, the late-January weather was flawless; it was perfect for spending a few sun-drenched mid-morning hours strolling around Charleston's French Quarter. Second, Captain Jim kept us entertained with enchanting history lessons, snappy quips, and fascinating details we would have undoubtedly overlooked as unwitting tourists. Finally, we'd opted for the Hidden Alleyways and Passages tour and it did exactly what it says on the tin. We wandered down tucked-away paths that I never would have thought were accessible to the public (let alone take me anywhere desirable). If you're visiting Charleston and looking for an affordable way to learn about the city and obtain a deeper appreciation for its rich history, I unhesitatingly recommend Lowcountry Walking Tours.
