Terrible customer service. Walked away from me while I was checking out to go vacuum. Very rude.

I am feeling very generous because I am on vacation and a bit more relaxed than usual…read more So upon landing in the great white north (not so white this time of year) we went to a local Costco to stock up on our favorite beverages only to find that the did not sell them at this particular location. This is where Safari Liquors comes into the picture. After a 4 hour drive, we finally get close to our final resting place. No, we weren't dying but rather getting away to rest. Geesh, you cannot get rid of me that easily. Anyway, driving through town that is closest to our cabin, there stood Safari Liquors and I began to weep. Yes, it had been a long day of traveling.... Walked in and stocked up on what we felt we needed for the week. Unfortunately our estimates were off and we've been back several times since then. Their beer selection is what you would expect in a smaller town. I'm used to IPA's however there were none to be found. Had to go with an EPA instead. Regardless, it was cold and refreshing to say the least. The staff here was really cool and helped me to bring my purchased items to the car. That is service that I am not used to, living in California. The store is on the small side but it has basically everything you need from beer, soda, mixes and hard liquor. Conveniently located, it is still a 10 mile drive to get here from where I am staying however the drive does me some good and gives me some "me" time.

They had quite a few customers, so we didn't get irritated. However, people sat at a table next to us, and we literally watched as a server followed them to the table to wait on them. We then noticed another server approach another table that arrived well after we did. One of my pieces went up to her and asked if we could get menus. She stated that she thought someone was already helping us. Ummmm, we had no menus or drinks in front of us. She came over with menus and took our drink orders. She stated she would bring kids menus. We waited almost 10 more min, and again, had to approach someone to get these menus. Finally, we got our orders in, we didn't time it but took forever to get our food. The kids were starving at this point, and when the food finally came out, they had messed up one of their meals. The food was okay, but nothing special. We had plenty of leftovers, but it wasn't worth taking it with us. Overall, it took 3 hrs just to eat dinner. None of us will be going back.

Aside: Technically speaking, campers at State Parks in Minnesota are prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages... not that this seems to be enforced or enforceable, but the inconvenience of an extra stop for a bottle of wine and a twelver of Bud Light seems silly. Whatever. That all being the case, I ducked in to Bemidji Discount Liquor on the way back to our campsite. It was raining pretty hard, so while I had ice slowly melting in the Tahoe, I wasn't in a giant hurry to get back to camp, soggy as it was. Signage prohibiting entry of anyone under 21 didn't phase my 40 year old self, and somebody's underage kid opened the door for me. Stay classy, Bemidji. I found me 24 pack of Bud Light without much ado, but it took me a minute to realize, while hunting for a decent bottle of Pinot Noir for Mrs. Picante, that the wines were all organized alphabetically, not by varietal. I grabbed a decent one, and headed for the register. Good prices, nice folks. Incidentally, if you're looking for tobacco... That's a third stop on your way back to camp or home in Minnesota. Lucky for you, there's a smoke shop next door to the west and a gas station next door to the east.... Because selling food, drinks, and smokes under the same roof is so damned California after all.

If I didn't have dinner reservations for 7:30 I wouldn't even buy here.
