Our guide Alan was an engaging storyteller who's also a professionally trained sociologist. Alan led off with a wonderfully concise sketch of the town's founding, then fleshed out the details of how Pittsburgh grew to become one of the most important industrial centers in the world, including the "my (building's) bigger than yours!" rivalry between Henry Frick and Andrew Carnegie - fascinating! A bonus for our group of 4 was being accompanied by Valentina, who founded Walk The Burgh in 2015. Great holiday lights tour of downtown to see all the beautiful Christmas lights, trees, and decorations. The tour included fancy hotel lobbies, the ice rink, a nativity scene, and ended at the German market. It was a nice festive touch to the holiday season. This was a great way to get introduced to Pittsburgh! We did two tours with this company. For the Walk the Burgh Tour, our guide, Annie, was quite interesting and informative. I enjoyed learning some of the early history of the city, the uses of the Inclines, how Carnegie built his fortune, and also the stories of the amazing buildings in the downtown area. When we heard about things like the Pinkerton Riots, something I had read in history books, to realize that history happened where I was standing made it come alive! For the Black and Ghost tour, Myrna was an excellent guide telling the stories of some of the haunted sites in the city! Seeing the city at night was a new perspective and well worth the time. I had the best time on a recent "Walk The Burgh" Black & Ghost Tour. It was a chilly night, but we had tea and hot chocolate along the way. Honestly, the tour was just fantastic. I brought my family back to almost every place afterwards the next day to explore some more. Excellent storytelling and historical references. I would highly recommend this experience. Incredible experience at every point of this tour! I sent an email asking for the Art and Artists tour (specialty tour) and they were so accommodating to our schedule for the day. We were running a few minutes late to our tour time so I called and told them we were walking and they told us not to rush and to stay hydrated :) Ken took us on our tour and I noticed that he researched my interests (i have my website in my email signature) and totally custom tailored our tour to focus on the things I was interested in! He even gave us extra time and told us all about some architecture since my mom was interested in it. We learned about all the artistic nooks and crannies of the city. Ken made sure we were drinking our water and were able to stand in the shade as much as possible as we were in the middle of a heatwave! Loved the Lights! Camera! Pittsburgh-Movie Tour! Our guide Christine was a treasure trove of information. As we walked the streets, Christine would show a pic from her trusty binder of the movie scene shot where we were standing. So many movies have been made in the area. Are you a movie buff? We certainly are. So when we saw the "Hollywood East" tour operated by locally-owned Walk The Burgh, we signed up right away. Pittsburgh makes a great backdrop with its three rivers, crossed by 446 bridges and a Manhattan-like downtown. Not only that, it's cheap to film here. Pennsylvania started giving tax credits to movie productions, making it even more compelling for Tinseltown to set up shop. This 2-hour tour mixes history along with its general connection to Hollywood. If you want to freak yourself out, rent Silence of the Lambs and look for some of the city's famous landmarks. You won't get out to the suburbs to see Buffalo Bill's creepy house. Or get to buy it anytime soon (our guide told us that the house recently sold for $195,000). You'd think a serial killer flick wouldn't be a selling point, but hey, what do I know? There are plenty of movies less scary with Pittsburgh as the backdrop like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Will Smith in Concussion, and even Tom Cruise running around the streets of Pittsburgh in Jack Reacher. And it's not just movies coming to Pittsburgh. There is plenty of TV history including a must-stop at the Omni William Penn Hotel where you can find the original bubble machine used by Lawrence Welk. We had a great time on the Black and Ghost Tour. It was fun to walk around Pittsburgh at dusk and we learned quite a few things that I don't think we would have learned anywhere else. I wanted to take the whiskey tour from the first post I saw about it on Facebook. However, I wanted the full experience, so we waited until the Covid restrictions were lifted and finally made it happen in July 2022. It was so worth the wait! As a former history teacher, I really enjoyed learning about aspects of the Whiskey Rebellion I didn't know. Corrie did a great job; her narration was informative to those of us who had background knowledge, while also giving the basics for those who might be new to the subjects. She also had a great sense of humor, which I always appreciate. The whiskey tasting at the beginning and end of the tour was a great touch. We'll definitely take more tours! read more

We had a private Pittsburgh Ghost Tour with Walk the Burgh for our friend's 40th birthday. It was such a fun thing to do with a group of close friends and be a tourist in your own city. Our tour guide was amazing and knew so much history about the city of Pittsburgh. I have to admit I am afraid of ghosts but this was more historical so if you don't like spooky don't rule this tour out. It is a ton of walking (rain or shine) so make sure to wear your sneakers. The tour lasts a solid 2 hours (no bathrooms) which I do think could be cut down to 90 minutes but hey you get your money worth. For those visiting Pittsburgh or locals looking for something different to do on a Friday or Saturday night this is the tour for you. read more

The main negative thing to say about this tour was that they stopped the tour 15 minutes from where the tour started. Most tours end and start at the same place, a circle. Well, this tour did not do that. We were left far away from where we started, which wasn't great because we didn't know where we were and had to walk back. Other than that, we saw many great buildings and cool architecture. We were given coupons at the end which was nice. The tour was comprehensive but not too excited. Not a must do but it's still nice. The tour center is located on the side of the convention center near jimmy johns. It was hard to find because the front looks like a bike shop. Went on the sunset walking tour Saturday 6/26/21 with tour guide Stephanie. It was such a great freaking time! I just moved to Pittsburgh 6 months ago and this was my first time really exploring downtown and I learned so much about the city and the history. Walked by so many fabulous restaurants and bars that I've added to my list to explore later. Stephanie had such a welcoming and upbeat personality and you could tell she loves the city and to share her knowledge with others.
